As per one Zee News report the level of corruption is "alarming" in Indian states of Assam, Bihar, Jammu and Kashmir, Uttar Pradesh and Madhya Pradesh, says a new survey based on experience of Below Poverty Line (BPL) households in availing various public services last year.
The 'India Corruption Study 2007', brought out by NGOs Transparency International India (TII) and Centre for Media Studies (CMS), found that about one-third of Below Poverty Line (BPL) households in the country bribed officials to avail a total of 11 services -- from police to PDS.
According to the survey, which covered 22,728 households in all states and Union Territories, Rs 8,830 million, in all, was estimated to be paid as bribe by BPL households last year. Read more here........................

Whenever there is a Cricket match between India & Pakistan, the whole thing becomes so emotional that Cricket fans of both countries get involved with their team's performance so much, as if it is not a Cricket match but an Indo-Pakistan War. It's do or die situation for both the teams & players know that they shall have to face the wrath of their countrymen if they lose the game. In game, sometimes one team wins, sometimes it lose too & it goes on.
But this time India has surely won over Pakistan!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Just think........ in what thing.............Heh, in "Corruption Perceptions Index (CPI)............As per the CPI, though India is among one of the most Corrupt nations, Pakistan is much worse. As per one Independent international agency -Transparency International, India has been ranked a lowly 74, two steps down since last year among 180 countries of the world in Corruption, while Pakistan occupies 140th place.
Anyway it's no Pride for India, rather Shame to be so lowly at 74 among 180 countries of the world. Our Government & other social machinery in India need to clean itself to purge itself of this scourge of Corruption.

SIKANDARA, Rajasthan, India - Sitting in the middle of a highway under a baking hot sun is not Mansingh Burja's idea of a good time. But it's the best way, he says, for him and hundreds of fellow protesters to vent their anger over being classified by the government as a "backward" class near the bottom of India's social ladder.
They want to be lower.
The demonstrators, members of an ethnic group known as Gujjars, have blocked traffic for two weeks here on the road leading to the famed Taj Mahal, ever since dozens from their ranks were killed in a hail of bullets during clashes with state police. They vow to remain where they are until the government reclassifies them, putting them at the bottom of the official social hierarchy.
Such a move would in essence drop the Gujjars to a level similar to that of India's former "untouchables," who were pariahs under the ancient caste system. But it also would entitle them to more favorable quotas in education and public-sector jobs that the government has set aside for the nation's most oppressed and least modernized groups in an effort to redress historic wrongs. TOI report:
"On 27 May 1942 AD (Jyaistha Shukla 1 Samvat 1998) in Birla House, New Delhi Shri Pandit Krishnapal Sharma made approximately 1 tola of gold from 1 tola of mercury in front of us. The mercury was put inside a shell of reetha. In the mercury was mixed about 1 or 11/2 ratti of a white powder of some herb (jari-buti) and another yellow powder. Then the reetha shell was closed by clay and the whole thing put into the hollow of an earthen lamp and put on fire. For about 45 minutes, the fire was stoked by a fan till the coal got burnt completely to ashes. The lamp was then put into water to remove the contents. From the hollow of the earthen lamp a lump of gold was extracted. On weighing it was found to be one or two ratti less than 1 tola.
