Patna: Nearly four years after illegal banks run by criminals and musclemen in rural Bihar came to light, police have decided to launch a fresh probe into their operation.
The agents of ‘goonda banks’, as they are called, force people to deposit their hard earned money with the promise that it will be doubled within a year and provide loans at high interest rates.

They target farmers and local businessmen and confiscate the properties of those who are unable to pay back the loans. Read More................Fresh probe into ‘goonda banks’ in Bihar

Mahatma Gandhi, was a major political and spiritual leader of India and the Indian independence movement. He was born on 2 October 1869 & was shot dead by a Hindu fanatic on 30 January 1948. Though around 60 years have passed since he passed away, here is an interesting episode in which "State Bank of India" in a letter sent at his "Sabarmati Ashram" asked Mahatma Gandhi for a pre-examination training program for a Bank Exam!!!!!!!!!

This was no case of snail mail. The letter was from State Bank of India's central recruitment and promotion department in Mumbai asking Mahatma Gandhi to report for this training camp for bank clerks at AG Teacher's college in Navrangpura between June 16-21. Incredible - it happens only in India. Read more here at TOI.............................SBI to test Bapu as bank babu!

Shopkeepers Begging for Coins from Beggars

Subscribe to Weird India Subscribe to Weird India in MY YAHOO! Subscribe to Weird India in MY GOOGLE! Subscribe to Weird India in MY MSN! Subscribe to Weird India in MY AOL! Subscribe to Weird India in Rojo!

In Calcutta city in West Bengal state of India shopkeepers are begging for coins from the beggars and buying coins at prices above their face value. Reason, there is sudden shortage of coins in this city of 14 million.

Reserve Bank of India has resorted to the emergency measures, distributing millions of coins to satisfy the demand.

Since the coin shortage became acute at the beginning of June, the bank has distributed nearly 5 million rupees (US$121,950; Euro 91,664.16) worth of coins, including one million on Thursday alone, said Nilanjan Saha, the bank's treasurer in the city.

But the emergency supplies have failed to appease the demand & nearly 2,000 people stood in two lines on a recent day at the bank to exchange currency notes for coins, many planning to resell them for a profit.

One woman, who asked not to be named, set up shop outside the bank selling packets of 100 rupee coins for 120 rupees.

"It may sound strange, but we have found that beggars are a good source of coins," said Mum Poddar, who runs a small shop selling stationary.

Bank officials said they were mystified by the shortage.

"There is no reason," said Saha. "But I have heard reports that some unscrupulous traders were melting coins because the face value of the coins are lower than the metal value."

The bank was also investigating claims the coins were being melted down to make razor blades.

There are "reports that as many as six blades can be made from one single one rupee coin," said bank security officer Subal Chandra Naskar.

'Women Power' is best represented here by Tribal women in Jharkhand state of India. These Tribal women just followed the adage that "Unity is strength" & they found a way to run a Bank. Yes, they are a small group of Santhali women who are running a small bank in Bengabad Block of Jharkhand state's Girdh District in India.

IFICCO (IRMA Finance Imitative Credit Co-operative), the bank was opened with the financial help of Institute of Rural Management, Anand (IRMA) after the resident tribal women in Karmjora Village here got annoyed with the ill-tempered bank employees in the Bengabad Block.

Most of these tribal women, who are basically housewives, have formed respective groups, pooled in their possible resources and deposited the amount as savings in the IFICCO bank, to transform their lifestyle through collective wisdom.

According to Pushpa Tirkey, Deputy Manager of IFICCO Bank, running a bank was never a child's play but after initial struggle and through collective efforts, they could overcome such hurdles. Read more.......Tribal women running a bank in Jharkhand

Though India is known to outside for its Software Professionals, Its brainy People , One of the Fastest growing Economies in the World rising at 8% plus per annum rate, there is another side of India which many shall find Weird & shall be interesting to the people around the world. One of the interesting fact in one of its State is "Bank run By Masculine Force", Yes Bank run By Force.

These type of banks are run by Local Moneylenders of that area & though illegal as per Government Rule Book, are very much prevalent in many of small towns & villages of Bihar State of India. If you want Loan from these Banks, then you don't need even a Guarantor etc. to take a loan from these banks. You just have to move into the Bank, Show your Face , tell your requirement of money & immediately Cashier of the Bank shall give you Money. How simple & how easy.

But from there on, You have fallen into Death Trap. Interest rate charged by these Banks are highest in the world. Afterwards these Bank's people shall take care of you. If you don't pay that Interest per month, then Banks have their own Masculine Force to handle you which in local Language are called Gun wielding Masculine people. These type of people are people having unlicensed Guns & they apply all sort of Masculine Force Tactics by which they reclaim their Interest & Principal. Most of the people repay the Loan interest & Principal in time & others who do not pay in time are threatened , harassed & even beaten . Many time they take their property by force & all this is done with the Gun force wielding people of these moneylenders. Even after this if the person don't repay them their child can be kidnapped or you can be killed also. So this is called "Bank run By Masculine Force" of these Moneylenders.

Though these Banks / Moneylenders are illegal as per local laws but their Business flourishes like anything. Their Area manager moves in the Area with a Group of Masculine people each carrying illegal Guns without license & they go around their area in that manner, reclaiming money of the Moneylender.

So Wanna thinking of taking a Loan from these banks..............
