NEW DELHI: They renamed their company often. One of the names they chose was Love God Packers and Movers. But Ratibhan, Somveer Singh and Sanjay Singh — all residents of Haryana's Bhiwani town — often had ungodly things on their mind.

The trio, all in their twenties, often vanished with their parcels. A Maruti Swift car, Kinetic scooty, refrigerator —they stole them all. To evade the law, they would soon move to another area and set up shop with a new name. Read more: They packed & moved but never delivered

GUWAHATI, India - Thieves are breaking into tea gardens in India's northeast and plucking leaves, damaging tea bushes and hurting the industry, planters said.

The thieves are believed to be villagers in the tea-growing regions of Assam, famed for its strong malty brew, some of whom struggle to produce saleable tea in their small backyard tea gardens created as part of an employment scheme a decade ago.

"These thieves are now so desperate, they come with bows and arrows, and homemade firearms," said Rupesh Gowala, who leads a tea workers association.

"They clash with our workers whenever they are stopped from stealing. Two of our workers were also killed by them recently." Read more............................Thieves stealing leaves

But it all came to an end last week when the Central district police busted this gang of pickpockets which was being neatly run along the lines of a "company". Cops dog ‘buffalo thieves’ for 34 years

Subscribe to Weird India Subscribe to Weird India in MY YAHOO! Subscribe to Weird India in MY GOOGLE! Subscribe to Weird India in MY MSN! Subscribe to Weird India in MY AOL! Subscribe to Weird India in Rojo!

In India it is not uncommon that legal court cases go on for years together & earlier we have known of a story in which a case is still going against a person for stealing a pair of oxen for 33 years. Now here is a case of the Punjab Police, who since 1973, have been pursuing a case of buffalo theft till three months ago when the two accused, natives of a village near Jalandhar, were sent behind bars. But it was also not correct & the Punjab and Haryana High Court came to the rescue of the two after it discovered that the stolen cattle had been traced the same year.

Earlier, the police had taken the plea that the two buffaloes were never recovered and the challan was yet to be presented to ensure that the trial court dismissed the bail of the two accused, Mohan Singh and Jodha Singh.

The case dates back to February 9, 1973 when the police booked the two residents of Malsihan village on charges of theft after a resident of Dhakha complained that two of her buffaloes had gone missing. A man said he had seen Mohan Singh and Jodha Singh with the buffaloes.

But when the police party reached the spot, the two fled, following which they were declared proclaimed offenders. The duo was finally arrested from a petrol pump three months ago and sent to the Ludhiana Central Jail.

'Village of Thieves' Trains Children in Art of Theft

Subscribe to Weird India Subscribe to Weird India in MY YAHOO! Subscribe to Weird India in MY GOOGLE! Subscribe to Weird India in MY MSN! Subscribe to Weird India in MY AOL! Subscribe to Weird India in Rojo!
If you ask any Parent, what would they like their children to be, when they grow up, certainly many would answer as " Doctor', " Engineer", "IT Professional" etc. etc. But can you ever imagine parents preferring their children to get trained as professional thieves, pickpockets and gangsters rather than send them to school.

Weird & incredible it may sound but there is a village in Bihar state of India where parents want their children to carry on with the above mentioned unusual professions. So here is the story of Musepur-Jurabganj village under Korha police station in Katihar district, about 200 km from Patna in Bihar State of India, where expert elders provide training to children in the art of stealing.

"Children are being kept out of schools and are being trained to steal. Only a few children are enrolled in schools," a police official said.

Most people in the village, which has a population of about 4,000, are engaged in the same profession, the officer said.

"People within the age group of 15 to mid 40 are engaged either in theft, pick-pocketing, burglary or looting," the officer added.

A Hindi daily reported that a man named Bhola Yadav is the kingpin of the racket and is instrumental in training the children and sending them to metros and small towns across India.

All the thieves of the village are members of a committee that monitors and manages the daily working of the group.

"It is mandatory to send the collected money back to the village committee because it distributes money and goods to thieves and others engaged in similar professions," the official said.

The committee also hires lawyers to bail the thieves out when they are arrested and charged, the officer said, adding that it also keeps a percentage of the looted money and goods for smooth functioning of the village.

Just imagine, a gang of robbers come to rob your house & after taking away the stolen goods ask the family members, "Mother, sister, please don't lose heart". A similar incident happened when around 10 thieves raided Virendra Mishra’s house in Khuti police station area, 35km from Ranchi in Jharkhand state of India.

Thieves took away jewellery worth Indian Rs40,000 ( US$ 930), Rs5,000 ( US$ 116) in cash and a bike — but with utmost politeness.

The robbers told Mishra’s distraught wife: “Mother please do not cry.” They even requested for dinner: “We are hungry, please give us some food,” one of them was quoted as saying by her. Not only that. While leaving, they gave Rs.10 to the children in the house also!!!!!!!

“Why are you worried Mishraji? You will get the bike money from insurance,” another thief was quoted as saying by Mishra.
