Bangalore: As hundreds of people gather, young children are thrown from the top of a 30-foot temple. This is as an annual ritual in Karnataka's Bagalkot district that was conducted on Monday and yesterday.

Nagpur: Trusting god to ensure party ticket for the coming civic polls in Maharashtra, many Congress hopefuls slipped their application forms in the donation boxes of famous temples here.

“The trend came to light when I went to the Ganesh Tekri temple here to offer prayers for my newly-born grandson,” said city Congress president Jayprakash Gupta.

“I was curious when the priest asked me about upcoming civic polls. When I asked him as to why he is so interested in the elections, he told me that he found eight to 10 copies of candidate’s forms in the donation box,” he said. Sabarimala, A purification process was performed at the Lord Ayyappa temple, Sabarimala, Kerala on Monday, Dec 19 after a 35-year-old woman violated the norms by entering the shrine.

The ceremony was performed at the santcum, 18 sacred steps that leads to the main temple, said the sanctorum temple administration officials.

Hyderabad: This is a hair-raising achievement by one of the richest temples in India, the Tirumala temple. The temple administration managed to gather a whopping Rs 133 crore (USD 28 Million) by auctioning off human hair offered by the devotees to the deity. The temple in Andhra Pradesh is known for the unique offering made by the throngs of pilgrims who visit the holy place each year.

The e-auction of the hair was conducted for the first time by the Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanams (TTD) and garnered lush returns. The TTD managed to auction as much as 65,000 kg of various categories of hair. It has been reported that close to 49 traders took part in the auction.
