Shimla – A day after the festival of lights, a unique stone pelting fair was organised Saturday as part of an annual ritual in the former princely state of Dhami in Himachal Pradesh.

In local parlance it is known as ‘pattharon ka mela’ (fair of stones). During the fair, male adults gathered in a ground and pelted each other with small stones in Dhami village, some 40 km from Himachal Pradesh’s capital Shimla.

‘More than 500 people gathered in the village this (Saturday) noon for the ritual. People who got injured and bled, smeared the forehead of Goddess Kali (a deity in a temple) with their blood,’ fair organiser Jagdeep Singh told IANS. KOLKATA: There is nothing different about the Kali idol. But one look at the `bhog' - noodles, chopsuey, rice-and-vegetables dishes - and you realize this isn't just any Kali temple.

In the heart of Kolkata's Tangra area -- India's own Chinatown -- stands this unique symbol of cross-cultural assimilation. The `Chinese Kali Temple' (so the marble plaque says) is not only a bridge between Chinese and Indian cultures, but also strengthens bonds within the Chinese community. Bhubaneswar: Holding a coconut wrapped in a piece of red cloth, a man shows it to a fast running passenger bus on the outskirts of the city. The vehicle stops at a distance and its helper comes near the man in a hurry to collect the fruit. It is carrying coconut to Ghatagaon Tarini, a free courier service which runs on faith.

Thousands of Hindus involve themselves in a network that collects coconuts from devotees from the devotees from almost all partsof the country and deliver them to a temple situated in a mineral hinterland of interior Orissa, about 200 km from the state capital.

The network is spread almost all over the country. Make-shift collection boxes and at a few places small temples have been set up to collect the coconuts. Passenger buses and other vehicles plying on the route to Ghatagaon in Orissa's Keonjhar district carry the fruits and hand it over there.

On an average, over 20,000 coconuts reach the temple for offering before the presiding deity Maa Tarini Thakurani every day through this amazing network. Read more................................................A courier service of Orissa that runs on faith

Siamese baby being worshipped as 'Goddess'

Subscribe to Weird India Subscribe to Weird India in MY YAHOO! Subscribe to Weird India in MY GOOGLE! Subscribe to Weird India in MY MSN! Subscribe to Weird India in MY AOL! Subscribe to Weird India in Rojo!
Here is a Siamese baby who was born on July 4 to Geeta of the Indalpur Village near Shahjahanpur in Uttar Pradesh's Bareilly District in India. This infant was born with two heads, four hands and two legs. But due to ignorance, villagers are worshipping this child as reincarnation of Goddess.

Ramesh, father of the twins, said: "On the fourth of this month, this child was born to my wife at 8'o clock. Everyone called her an incarnation of Devi (Goddess), as she has two heads, four hands and two legs. People come here from far off places, and offer money to my child out of respect."

Doctors suggest it could also be Siamese or conjoined twins, who are joined together physically at a particular part of the body. The newborn are conjoined at the torso.

Dr. Ashok Aggarwal, a surgeon with the Ruhelkhand, Medical College, said: "Such kinds of children are called as Siamese baby. They are no incarnation of God. It can be referred to as a mistake done by nature. When two eggs join at the time of fertilization, they grow together after that. They are no incarnation. They should be immediately operated to be separated so that life of both the babies can be saved.

He added that if they are continued to be treated as an incarnation, then life of both babies can come into danger. "Thus, to save their lives, operation is a must."

The news of the unusual child-birth spread very quickly. After initial hesitation and surprise, people started pouring in to have a glimpse of the child.

Elders in the infant's family are also delighted to have been blessed with 'the baby Goddess'.
