MUMBAI - Mumbai city officials are upset by an American warning about the risks of falling into manholes in India's commercial capital during the monsoon season.

An item posted on the U.S. consulate website said that municipal workers in Mumbai sometimes open manhole covers at times of heavy flooding and then leave them unattended and unmarked.

"It's possible that you could inadvertently step into an open manhole," said the warning, issued after the monsoon rains arrived at the weekend. Read more......................Manhole memo prompts Mumbai municipal mutterings

For students and teachers of a few departments of Punjab University in Chandigarh, it was a different day when they encountered an 'Americanised' version of the father of the nation, Mahatma Gandhi.

When peace activist Bernie Meyer, dhoti clad, bespectacled and with a stick - just like Mahatma Gandhi - walked through the corridors of the arts block of the campus here, scores of teachers and students came out to greet him. Some looked at him in awe and others with reverence as if the real Mahatma had appeared before them. Read more....................Punjab University students meet 'American Gandhi'

Is American Scientist Reborn as 'Rajesh' in India?

Subscribe to Weird India Subscribe to Weird India in MY YAHOO! Subscribe to Weird India in MY GOOGLE! Subscribe to Weird India in MY MSN! Subscribe to Weird India in MY AOL! Subscribe to Weird India in Rojo!
If you have heard of words like Bizarre, Miracle of Nature, Unbelievable, Unthinkable, Wondrous, etc. etc. this story shall make you believe in all that. Can a rustic boy who lives in a remote village of India, where there is no communication of Normal TV or Cable TV suddenly start speaking in perfect American accent? Can a boy of 14 years suddenly forgets his local language , even Hindi language & starts speaking in American English accent? Can a 14 years boy who has never learnt science, ever teach Newton's laws, Einstein principles to B-Tech Engineering students?

As per one IBN7- TV report today evening, here is "Rajesh", a 14 years boy from Bilaspur village of Saharanpur in Uttar Pradesh state of India who studies in 9th standard & has suddenly started speaking English in perfect American English accent. He has forgotten local language & Hindi language also. Suddenly he is talking as a 40 years old scientist who is able to teach Physics, Chemistry laws to students. Not only that, he can discuss at length Newton's laws, Einstein principles, other science laws & is also teaching Engineering students much older than him. Such things & science laws that he writes while teaching on College blackboard are mind boggling. His body language is also of a 40 years old scientist & just seeing him speaking like this, one cannot say that he is 14 years old. He talks of Mars & Space & wants to do more research on it.

Interestingly he has never gone to America, not even has ever gone beyond his village, still suddenly he has been transformed into a scientist speaking American English .

At present he is living in Rampur Village with his aunt as his parents are puzzled with him & has sent him away from their native place to his aunt's place in Rampur village. He has his mother Omkara Devi, who is an illiterate & a laborer. His Father Som Pal Singh, is a mental patient. He has one elder brother Anuj & a sister Muskan. His parents are extremely poor.

As per his Mother Omkara Devi, "Before 1.5 years back he was normal but suddenly he started speaking English which was not understandable to them. As per her its a miracle of God."

His transformation occurred one day when his mental father was hit on the head & seeing his worse mental condition, he became silent for 3 months. He kept himself closed in a room for 3 months & after that time he was transformed into a different new person.

As per his brother Anuj, " He was knowing little English when they were both in school, but this new Rajesh, his brother speaking in American English is a miracle, may be these are his memories of earlier birth."

His all friends, villagers, teachers are also bewildered at his this transformation & are unable to understand him as he has altogether forgotten local language.

As per Rajesh, "It is Re-Memory, as Memory never dies, it is transferred when a person is reborn." As per him he wants to work for the society & nation. As per him he wants to contribute with all his scientific knowledge.

Now these words indicate of the rebirth of an American Scientist as Rajesh & all the past memories of his earlier life have suddenly come alive, whatever, the reason may be.

Is it a case of rebirth or a split personality, readers need to decide. Readers comments are invited, what they say on it.

American fined US$4.70 for entering Hindu Temple

The Jagannath Temple at Puri in Orissa State of India is a famous Hindu temple & is dedicated to Lord Jagannath which is another form of mythological Lord Vishnu. It's a 12th century shrine. This temple is a pilgrimage spot for all the Hindus. The temple is also famous for its Rath Yatra i.e. Chariot festival, in which huge and beautifully decorated chariots are used for the procession of various deities.

An American tourist has good reason to feel shortchanged after his visit to a Hindu holy site in eastern India on Friday_ not only was he kicked out for being a non-Hindu, he was also fined 209 rupees (US$4.70; euro3.60) by irate temple priests.

The man, identified by officials at the Jagannath Temple in the city of Puri as Paul Roediger, a 59-year-old engineer from New York, was handed over to police along with two Hindu friends who went in with him, said temple spokesman L.D. Pujapanda.

"The men were released later after they said that they were unaware of the temple rules. However, Mr. Paul was fined 209 rupees as per the temple law," Pujapanda said.

Roediger left shortly afterward and could not be found for comment.

The temple, dedicated to Jagannath, an incarnation of the Hindu god Vishnu, is particularly popular with Hindus because all casts are allowed in.

That tolerance is not extended to non-Hindus. The temple once famously refused entrance to then-Prime Minister Indira Gandhi because she married a non-Hindu, forcing her to view the shrine from across the street.

Puri, once of the four holiest Hindu pilgrim sites, is 60 kilometers (37 miles) east of Bhubaneswar, the capital of the eastern state of Orissa.
