Ghaziabad: In a most shameful punishment ever awarded to a rapist, a man accused of raping a minor was sentenced to 5 kicks as a punishment for his crime by the village panchayat in Ghaziabad.

Convicted rapist jumps from court's fourth floor

LUCKNOW: A man convicted of rape jumped from the fourth floor of a court in this Uttar Pradesh capital Saturday after he was sentenced to seven years imprisonment, police said.

Unable to Pay Loan, Man Mortgages Wife

Behrampore - West Bengal: You could call it Bengal’s heart of darkness. Unable to repay a loan he had taken for his wedding, a Murshidabad man ‘mortgaged’ his wife and vanished. For two years, the woman was allegedly raped and kept confined in the moneylender’s house.

When she went to police, they allegedly did nothing. Every time she sought help, they ignored her, she says.

The shocking incident took place at Jhikra village in Murshidabad’s Bharatpur area. When the woman married tailor Toton Sheikh five years ago, he borrowed some money from Rahamani Sheikh, a rich businessman from neighbouring Surpara village. The couple was finding it difficult to pay back the Rs 5,000 (at a hefty interest) when they had to borrow money again for their son’s birth. Temple service as punishment for Murder

He is just 15-year-old & is convicted of murdering a minor. A juvenile court in Bihar state of India has ordered him to do community service at a temple every day for six months.

Mantan Kumar alias Vishwajit Singh, who killed five-year-old Puja Kumari Dec 10, 2002 and concealed her body in a field, was awarded the punishment by the Juvenile Justice Board here.

"He started doing community service at the Mahavir temple Friday," said Kishore Kunal, secretary of the shrine located near the Patna railway station.

The court had also ordered that Rs.10,000 be paid to the victim's family.

While Mantan will work at the temple from morning till evening, he will continue to stay with his parents.

Mantan has already served over four years in prison after he was found guilty of rape and murder.

According to Kunal, Mantan will clean the temple floor, look after the shoe stand and distribute food to beggars and the poor.
