Runaway Indian bride suspected of poisoning and robbing husband and in-laws

A FUGITIVE bride was being hunted today on suspicion of poisoning her in-laws and ransacking their home just days after her wedding.

The Times of India said the helpful newlywed offered to cook an evening meal for her husband and four of his in-laws the night after moving in with them.

But all five were found writhing in agony the morning after when concerned locals heard moaning coming from their house in the Saharanpur district of Uttar Pradesh, northeast India, and went to investigate. Woman forced to drink ‘phenyl’

In yet another incident of dowry harassment by in-laws, a 22-year-old woman was beaten up and allegedly forced to consume phenyl in Chander Nagar near Krishna Nagar in east Delhi on Friday evening, reports Times News Network.

The victim, Deepa Verma, is now recovering at the Hedgewar Hospital and is reportedly out of danger. The doctors at the hospital, however, refused to confirm the nature of the toxic substance used to poison her.

The incident comes to light a day after a 25-year-old man and his parents were arrested in Nangloi for allegedly killing his wife for dowry. The police, meanwhile, have registered a case of dowry harassment at the Krishna Nagar police station and an inquiry has been set up. Back pain drives woman to poison self, three kids

Raipur: A woman suffering from recurring back pain attempted to end her life in Chhattisgarh state of India after poisoning her three minor children, two of who died, the police said Thursday.

50 rare Jackals poisoned by Indian farmers

At least 50 rare jackals were poisoned to death in northern India by farmers angry over alleged attacks on children and damage to crops blamed on the animals, as per one forest official.

The carcasses of the jackals — an endangered species protected by Indian law — were found scattered in sugarcane fields over the past four days on the outskirts of Dudhwa National Park, nearly 155 miles southwest of the Uttar Pradesh state capital of Lucknow, said the official, K.K. Father throws two sons into river driven by poverty

In a bizzare & heart-rending incident, a man, driven by abject poverty, threw his two sons into Saryu river in this holy city and was prevented by locals when he tried to push the third one into the swirling waters.

Sanjay Sahu, who was handed over to police, said he wanted to snuff out his own life after throwing all his three children into the river.

At President's function, 4 youths drink poison

As per one TV report, at a function attended by Indian President A.P.J. Abdul Kalam in Karnataka state's Gulbarga district on Sunday, 4 youths drank poison from bottles to protest against lack of jobs.

All the 4 young men were rushed to a hospital, where they were said to be out of danger. Youth were aged between 20 to 25. They wanted to submit a memorandum to the president but were stopped by security personnel. Frustrated, they consumed poison from bottles they were carrying, to the shock of those around them. The president was there to inaugurate the state government's Swarna Gramodaya scheme aimed at rural development.
