As per the Hindu religious beliefs, month of Shravan (mid-July to mid-August) is considered very auspicious by the worshippers of Lord Shiva, the God of Destruction as per Hindu mythology & this brings cheers to marijuana sellers in Deoghar district of Jharkhand.

During this period, millions of devotees clad in saffron walk, at times barefoot, to pour water on the Shiva Linga at the Baidyanath temple in Deoghar, 350 km from here. Smoking ganja (marijuana) is popular among the pilgrims.

According to one estimate, devotees consume 20-25 kg of marijuana every day.

"Marijuana is liked by Lord Shiva. There is nothing wrong in smoking ganja. It makes the 110 km journey from Sultanganj in Bihar to Deoghar easy," said Nutan, a pilgrim.
Marijuana is grown in 10 districts of Bihar and Jharkhand. There are also reports of Maoist guerrillas patronizing marijuana cultivation.

The police are aware of the illegal sale of the drug but turn a blind eye, media reports say.

Where moving around the hill gives an entry to Heaven!!!!

Subscribe to Weird India Subscribe to Weird India in MY YAHOO! Subscribe to Weird India in MY GOOGLE! Subscribe to Weird India in MY MSN! Subscribe to Weird India in MY AOL! Subscribe to Weird India in Rojo!
Religion makes happen things impossible. Religion makes you believe in anything. Take the case of this annual Hindu fair that happens every year at Goverdhan in Uttar Pradesh's Mathura district in India. More than 10 million pilgrims from all over India shall take part in it which started on July 25th. The fair shall peak on full moon day - July 29/30.

The weeklong Mudiya Poonau fair started with thousands of people joining the 21-km-long route around the Goverdhan hill, which, according to Hindu mythology, Lord Krishna had lifted with his little finger to protect people from torrential rains.

So wednesday onwards, Mathura, Vrindavan and other holy places associated with Lord Krishna will see hundreds of thousands of pilgrims converging until Janmashtami - the festival that celebrates Krishna's birth.

Many seem to believe that if the parikrama (moving around the hill) is not performed in the stipulated time they will be denied entry to heaven,' an official said.

'Dera Sacha Sauda' followers & Sikhs Clash again

Subscribe to Weird India Subscribe to Weird India in MY YAHOO! Subscribe to Weird India in MY GOOGLE! Subscribe to Weird India in MY MSN! Subscribe to Weird India in MY AOL! Subscribe to Weird India in Rojo!

In India Punjab State is again seething with communal violence. Today evening, tens of thousands of Sikhs vented their anger against followers of the Dera Sacha Sauda sect for allegedly blaspheming their religion and set their properties and vehicles on fire.

Over 25,000 Sikhs had gathered outside Salabetpura, Punjab's biggest Dera campus that is 30 km from Bathinda, and were set to attack it.

Isn't it strange that if someone just poses or dresses like "Sikh Guru" then Sikhs take it as an offence. Nowhere Baba Gurmit Ram Rahim Singh of "Dera Sacha Sauda" declared on his own that he is posing like 10th Sikh Guru Gobind Singh or he is going to baptize his followers just like Sikh Guru did. Sikhs have taken their own meaning out of the acts of Baba Gurmit Ram Rahim Singh.

In a democratic country like India, one is free to wear dress as per his liking. In that case what's there in adorning a dress which may look similar to some historical personality. It's high time people of Punjab think rationally & stop violence over trivial matter of someone dressing like some historical personality.

Weird - Religious Festival / Mela

Subscribe to Weird India Subscribe to Weird India in MY YAHOO! Subscribe to Weird India in MY GOOGLE! Subscribe to Weird India in MY MSN! Subscribe to Weird India in MY AOL! Subscribe to Weird India in Rojo!
Can you ever imagine a Religious Fair in which people drink lot of liquor, openly hurl swords, guns & other arms in the air, sacrifice goats / sheep in a weird manner & all that in the name of Shavite religion (Religion of followers of Hindu God Shiva).

In "Nadia District" in West Bengal State of India, a 4 day fair/festival/mela is held by the "Dalit Community" over there. This fair is called "Chaitanya Dev Mela". In this fair, people brandishing illegal arms like swords, guns etc. can be seen all around in the fair & most of these people are drunk as drinking lots of liquor during the festival is a norm.

All of them say that they are devotees of Hindu God "Lord Shiva". These people sacrifice more than thousand of goats, sheep etc. daily during this 4 day festival. People can be seen dancing with the head of Goat/Sheep after it has been cut by them only to appease the God. Many time they dance while keeping the head of the sacrificed animal on their own head in the most weird manner.

Later on they people cook & eat that scarified / killed animal as "Prasad". Other ceremonies like Mundan ( Shaving of hand) of little children are also performed in the fair.
Interesting thing is that local police & administration keep a blind eye to all these openly brandishing of illegal arms by the people in the fair & sacrificing / killing of thousands of animals by the devotees during the 4 days festival, all that in the name of religion.

Devotees offer Liquor at the tomb of Holy man

Subscribe to Weird India Subscribe to Weird India in MY YAHOO! Subscribe to Weird India in MY GOOGLE! Subscribe to Weird India in MY MSN! Subscribe to Weird India in MY AOL! Subscribe to Weird India in Rojo!
Sometimes Saints do good to Tipplers of the world also. Cocktail of drinks is not only to be found in beer & bars of the world but here in India, such Cocktail can be found at religious places also, where people drink such Cocktail of drinks as "Prasad" or blessings of the holy man.

Though most religious faiths in the world discourage believers from drinking liquor but in India there is holy place / tomb of a Muslim seer "Baba Rode Shah", where offerings and "Prasad" are given in the form of IMFL (Indian-made foreign liquor) or country liquor. Nothing is diluted in any way and must be 'slammed back' neat. This is a unique and popular tomb that lies on the Amritsar-Majitha road. Devotees from all over the country have been visiting the dargah of Muslim seer Baba Rode Shah situated in Bhoma town, 34 km from Amritsar in Punjab state of India.

Following the age-old tradition, devotees offer liquor at the shrine of Baba Rode Shah. As a ritual, devotees offer cocktail of drinks ranging from cheap country-made liquor to foreign brands once their wishes are fulfilled. The liquor is later distributed among devotees as 'Prasad' or blessings of the holy man.

According to a myth, Rode Shah moved to this town in 1896 and lived on the outskirts. He underwent austere penance and was blessed with mystical powers. Soon the miracles he performed to help people in distress made him popular. Today the shrine is known for its miraculous cures. By offering liquor at the shrine, childless couples have been blessed with children and people have achieved prosperity, as per the devotees.

Devotees flashing bottles of liquor greets each other after paying obeisance at the Samadhi of baba , where they arrive seeking mystical blessing. Not only people from in the vicinity come to pay obeisance at baba's Samadhi , but several NRIs ( Non Resident Indians) also make it a point to reach here with boxes of foreign liquor to 'appease' baba , who interestingly was a teetotaler.

At baba's Samadhi , a large drum is kept to mix the 'offerings' and a 'cocktail Prasad ' is given to baba's ardent devotees who gladly gulp it down. Issueless couples especially come here to seek baba's blessings.

The legend has it that Baba Rode Shah, who hailed from Dhiman village falling in Gurdaspur district had moved to Bhoma village in 1896 where his sister was married. Baba Rode Shah underwent austere penance. He started helping people. Once, with his blessings, a child was born to an issueless couple, who brought a bottle of liquor for baba to show their gratitude, which baba distributed among his devotees.

Though Baba passed away in 1924, the tradition is still going strong. Among the more famous devotees of Baba Rode Shah was the Great Indian singer "Mohammed Rafi".

Religion makes man cut his tongue

Subscribe to Weird India Subscribe to Weird India in MY YAHOO! Subscribe to Weird India in MY GOOGLE! Subscribe to Weird India in MY MSN! Subscribe to Weird India in MY AOL! Subscribe to Weird India in Rojo!
Blind faith in anything can be dangerous many times & can lead to a mishap as it blinds ones intellect & clouds the rational reasoning. Something similar has happened, when in a bizarre incident, during "Navratras" festival , one man from Ludhiana city in Punjab state of India cut his own tongue to offer it to goddess "Kali". "Navratras" is a religious festival of the Hindus, where people worship Goddess Durga & Kali by fasting & performing religious ceremonies during nine days period of the festival.

Man was immediately rushed to the government civil hospital here on Monday after he cut his own tongue to offer it to the goddess.

Doctors at the civil hospital performed a surgery on the man after people rushed him there as he was bleeding profusely.

The doctors were able to stitch the tongue back.

So here is a classic example when religion makes one do weird acts in the name of religion.

Dogs Marriage goes to the dogs

Subscribe to Weird India Subscribe to Weird India in MY YAHOO! Subscribe to Weird India in MY GOOGLE! Subscribe to Weird India in MY MSN! Subscribe to Weird India in MY AOL! Subscribe to Weird India in Rojo!
In India people can think of any weird thing & now just imagine that people over here planned the marriage of 18 dogs!!!!!! but somehow, their plans went to the dogs & did not materialize. As per one Times of India report, wedding ceremony of 18 dogs was planned on this Sunday in the north-western town of Jaipur in Rajasthan state of India. Marriage was to happen as per the traditional Hindu wedding ceremonial procedures.

To promote the canine culture, marriage of nine dogs to nine bitches was to take place in Jaipur but some hard-line Hindu religious groups & activists of animal rights could not let it happen. As per them, it was a mockery of the Hindu religion & cruelty to canines.

As per planning of the organizers, during the marriage, Hindu rituals were to be followed, which included sitting in front of the sacred fire and later exchanging flower garlands too. How weird??????? After the rituals a procession was to be taken out of the married couples, (of course, dogs & bitches) & yes a huge feast with a special dance party was also planned. Oh God! what a grand planning was done. It's not yet clear, whether Dogs & Bitches of the city were invited in the Feast or people of the city & it is also not clear, who was to dance at the dance party!!!!!!!!!!!

Someone has rightly said that, ' It happens only in India'

How much Religious Indian people of Bombay are, you can imagine from the offerings made to Lord Ganesha / God Ganesha during the recently concluded Ganesha festival that lasted full one week in India. Total around 2.3 crores Indian rupees i.e. 5,00,000 $(USD) were offered to the LalBaug - Bombay temple in cash, jewelry & a Car was also given to the temple.

This temple is only one such temple in Bombay & I am writing only about the biggest offering received by one temple in Bombay. There are hundreds of such other temples in Bombay & thousands such in India & you can imagine how much total money as offering would have been received in India in all such temples during the week long Ganesha Festival.

Holy Cow - 'Beef Eating, A Great Sin Among Hindus'

Subscribe to Weird India Subscribe to Weird India in MY YAHOO! Subscribe to Weird India in MY GOOGLE! Subscribe to Weird India in MY MSN! Subscribe to Weird India in MY AOL! Subscribe to Weird India in Rojo!
In Western Countries & other Modern Societies of the world, beef eating is very common & it is very much part of their routine diet & no Holiness is associated with the Cow per say with them. Fast foods like burgers, meat sausages etc. all contain beef & You cannot imagine McDonalds, Burger King, Wendy's, Pizza Hut, Wimpy's etc. doing Business in Western Countries & other Modern Societies without Beef.

But Just think of selling Beef among Hindus in India & you are about to start communal riots in India. Reason being, for Hindus in India, Cow is a Holy animal & it is revered as your own mother only. What to talk of eating beef, even hurting the animal is against the Hindu religion. In Hindu religion it is generally believed that all the Hindu Gods reside in the Holy Cow & it is compared to your own mother & is given the same respect as is given to your own mother.

In Hindu mythological books, all the Gods are somehow found relating to the Cow, whether it is Brahma, Vishnu or Mahesh, the trinity considered as the prime Gods among Hindu religion. Lord Krishna the incarnation of Vishnu & is always shown with cows & in fact he was born among the cowherd family only is always shown among the cows. So any disrespect to cows among Hindus is a disrespect to Lord Vishnu / Lord Krishna. Killing a Cow is considered as a great Sin & eating the Cow is also considered as a great Sin. As per Hindu scriptures there are stories that after killing a cow a Rishi / Saint had to go to the hell & after doing lot of penance only, the said Rishi / Saint was able to get rid of the Sin incurred by killing the cow.

So for this reason every Hindu considers Cow as a Holy animal & cannot even think of killing the cow or eating beef. Otherwise also , at the first look only, Cow is seen as the most sober & harmless animal & we should not kill her.

Now you can understand why McDonalds, Pizza Hut, Wimpy's etc. cannot even think of selling Beef in India.
