The Kishanganj district prison superintendent was issued a notice for allegedly inviting a sorcerer to exorcise the soul of a prisoner who had died behind the bars. District prison superintendent Devendra Prasad had allegedly brought sorcerer Imamuddin from neighbouring West Bengal to the jail in his official vehicle to conduct an exorcism after inmates claimed that they had seen the ghost of undertrial Bishwa Nath, who had died on Tuesday. Sirkazhi (Tamil Nadu), A 17-year-old boy killed his father on Sunday after the latter reprimanded him for performing poorly in the examinations. The shocking incident occurred at Sirkazhi, located about 250 km from Chennai, in Nagapattinam district of Tamil Nadu.

The ‘Talibani’ village panchayats in Uttar Pradesh are getting bolder by the day and issuing ludicrous diktats in the name of dealing with ‘social ills’.

In the latest ‘fatwa’, the panchayat of Ghatampur village in Saharanpur district has decreed that any youth — male or female — spotted listening to music on the mobile phone would be hit with a shoe five times and will also have to pay a fine of `1,500 to the panchayat. Indore: A team of doctors today removed about 1.8 kg of hair from the stomach of a 19-year old girl after an open surgery at a government hospital.

Dr Parvinder Singh Lubana of Maharaja Yeshwantrao Hospital led a team of gastro-surgeons in conducting the operation.

Bhubaneswar, A 15-year-old boy was tied to a tree, thrashed and tonsured by a group of people in Odisha in full public view. His offence was that he allegedly stole Rs.30 from the pocket of a villager.

KHANDWA: It's the 13th day of the Jal Satyagraha at Khandwa and the 90 protesting farmers are not ready to call off what they call as their 'final struggle.'

One of the farmers, 60-year-old Girjabai shivers as she stands neck-deep in water. Her wrinkly palms and feet are narrating the tale of her deteriorating health. The old woman from Kamankheda village in the district, gasps for breath as she voices the angst of her fellow protesters. "The government better shoot us than giving us this watery grave," she says. NEW DELHI: 'God save the villagers' was the Supreme Court's comment when it found that a rural bank incurred a litigation cost of nearly Rs 30,000 by dragging a poor farmer, who had availed a loan to buy a buffalo, from the district forum till the highest court of the land.

Bangalore: A Karnataka High Court Judge is under fire after he said that it was okay for a man to indulge in domestic violence and beat his wife as long as he was taking good care of his wife.

The shocking statement was made by Justice K Bhakthavatsala while hearing a case in which the plaintiff was seeking divorce on the grounds that she was being subjected to cruelty and abuse by her husband.

Jaipur, A bridegroom and about 50 of his marriage party were stranded in Rajasthan’s Barmer town for a week as the would-be bride disappeared right before the ceremony, after duping him of Rs.3.75 lakh, police said Monday.

A first information report (FIR) was registered against the bride and two men who had fixed the wedding after taking the money, they added. One of the men was arrested Monday. This is the story of an Indian woman who married at the age of 12, became a mother at 19, was deserted by her husband at 23 and was declared dead at the age of 40.

Asharfi Devi, now 64, fought a 24-year-long battle to prove that she was alive and her efforts paid off finally in May 2012 when a village council court ruled that she was indeed alive.

Allahabad: A policeman has been caught on camera riding his motorbike on the chest of a vegetable vendor in Allahabad as other policemen and bystanders stood and watched.

The incident took place on August 18 outside the Rambagh railway station. The vendor, Rohit Kesarwani, claims that the constable had asked him to move his cart and demanded a bribe. He alleges that when he refused, the cop assaulted him, beat him with a stick and threw him to the ground. The vendor alleges that the cop then rode the front wheel of his bike on his chest.
