A consumer court in New Delhi has imposed a fine on Japan Airlines for serving beef to a devout Hindu during a flight, a newspaper reported Friday.
The State Consumer Redressal Forum on Thursday slapped a fine of 50,000 rupees (1,258 dollars) on Japan Airlines for serving beef to a Delhi resident, GL Aggarwal, who had taken a flight to San Francisco on September 13, the Hindustan Times reported.
"The hurting of sentiments cannot be measured in terms of money. However taking into consideration the deficiency of service on part of Japan Airlines, we have to compensate in terms of money," the forum's president KK Chopra was quoted by the newspaper as saying.
The order comes three months after another consumer court in Delhi asked a domestic airline to pay a compensation of 20,000 rupees to a vegetarian who had a similar experience.
Aggarwal had complained to the court that though he had specified that he wanted an vegetarian meal on the flight he was given beef as there were no more vegetarian meals.
Hindus worship and respect the cow as a matriarchal figure for her gentle qualities and providing milk and dairy products for a largely vegetarian diet. The cow holds a honoured place in the Hindu society and the consumption of beef is prohibited.
Cow slaughter is currently banned in all Indian states except Kerala in the south and Arunachal Pradesh, Meghalaya, Mizoram, Nagaland and Tripura in the north-east.

Just the presence of a rat inside a flight led to it's cancellation. A Port Blair-bound "Indian" flight cancelled its journey minutes before take off from here today as the pilot noticed a rat inside the aircraft.
All 142 passengers had boarded the Airbus A-320 aircraft when the rat was found, airport sources said.
As the pilot refused to take off with the rat onboard, all passengers were disembarked and a thorough search was launched for the "ticket less passenger", the sources said.
As the search proved fruitless for hours, the flight was cancelled and the passengers were accommodated in various city hotels, Indian sources said.

Here is 60 years old Chaganlal Mali, from Bikaner in Rajasthan state of India. Whenever, he reaches the woods every evening, there is a crowd eagerly waiting - deer, foxes, pigeons, crows - for the food that he unfailingly brings them.
Chaganlal, who runs a betel nut shop in the city, has been taking grain and leafy vegetables for his bird and animal friends for the past seven years, undeterred by sweltering heat or severe cold.
He arrives at 4 in the evening and spends four to five hours feeding wild animals and birds in the forested area between Murlidhar Vyas Colony and Naal, about four kilometres from Bikaner, in the Indian desert state of Rajasthan.
'I am doing this for over seven years. I began this when this part of Rajasthan was passing through one of the worst droughts in 2000,' as per Chaganlal.
'I saw many animals dying because of lack of water and food. So I decided to bring these things for them. And since then, it has become a ritual for me.'
He begins his day arranging for the food and water he has to carry for the animals.
'Three or four people help me. We do this out of our love for these birds and animals,' Chaganlal said. 'As soon I reach the forest with food in my hand, the animals and birds, especially the deer and crows, come close to me.
'The animals are able to smell the food and turn up in good numbers.
'I usually take rice, jowar, pearl millet and green vegetables, and they love it. I thank god for giving me the power to do this.
'When I started coming there, a lot of rabbits would come for the food. But now I don't see any. Only the deer, foxes, wild cats, blue bulls and birds come. Maybe the rabbits have fallen prey to poaching,' Chaganlal said.

Here is Bollywood actress Celina Jaitley who played a practical joke on an unsuspecting New Zealand director by teaching him insults in Hindi language.
At a party during the recent filming of "Love Has No Languages" in New Zealand, Jaitley urged Kiwi director Ken Khan to greet Indian guests by saying: "Namaste, tera baap chor hain," or "Greetings, your father is a thief."
Khan fell for it.
"You should have seen the expression on the guests' faces when Ken actually said that to them. They were just stunned and did not know how to react," Jaitley told the Mumbai Mirror newspaper. "Of course, later I told the guests that it was a prank that I had played on him."
The movie about cross-cultural romance has Jaitley playing an Indian girl brought up in New Zealand who falls in love with Kiwi actor Ben Mitchell. The romance sets Jaitley on a collision course with her conservative parents who want her to marry an Indian.
Jaitley is among a growing number of Indian actors starring in overseas productions.
Jaitley won the Miss India contest in 2001 as a beauty queen and made her Bollywood debut two years later. She has since acted in more than 10 Hindi-language movies.

Now here is another Fatwa that has been issued against Bollywood Superstar Salman Khan. Salman Khan came into trouble following issuance of a fatwa by Ifta-Manzar-e-Islam of Bareilly in Uttar Pradesh state of India against idol worship.
Mufti Fakir Qadri Mohammad Farukh Gafrutula had issued the fatwa early this week on behalf the Ifta-Manzar-e-Islam on worshipping of idols by any Muslim.
The Mufti, while talking to UNI from Bareilly, stressed that the fatwa was not particularly against Salman Khan.
Under the fatwa, a Muslim will have to read the 'Kalma' again to re-enter Islam if he or she worships an idol.
The fatwa was sought by Maulana Adnan Raza Kadri of All India Raza Action Committee.
On Sunday last, media reports said that Salman Khan and his family members worshipped the idol of Lord Ganesh and danced during the immersion of the idol.

Here are Children of Witches who have started a social revolution in villages of Jharkhand state of India. Daughters and granddaughters of women who were once branded witches are coming forward to root out the social evil.
"My grandmother was blamed for everything taking place in the village, be it the death of a cow or a buffalo. One day I decided to stand up against this. When they once came to beat my grandmother, I stood at the doorway and asked them to kill me first. The villagers retreated," Poonam said.
"I took up the matter with the panchayat leaders and argued that if my grandmother could kill anyone, then why couldn't she protect herself from the wrath of the villagers. The panchayat accepted my argument and agreed not to harass my grandmother," she said.

It was monkey business at New Delhi's international airport & wildlife officials were struggling to catch a monkey which sneaked inside the security area of the airport. Monkey stalled operations at New Delhi's Indira Gandhi International airport for a few hours, delaying passengers and senior officials, media reports and officials said Monday.
The trouble began after the simian was spotted by passengers at the airport's security hold area on Sunday evening, the
Economic Times reported quoting official sources.
Soon after, authorities closed two gates, generally used for movement of important people or VIPs and summoned a team from an NGO called Wildlife SOS to catch the unusual visitor.
The report said the monkey had triggered panic amongst passengers and the entry through the gates was denied to VIPs, officials and passengers for a couple of hours.
'The monkey had apparently been frequenting the airport for a few weeks now and has been found staying between the false and actual ceilings. But we have not been able to capture him since there is a huge tangle of wires there,' Karthik Satyanarayan from the Wildlife SOS told the paper.
Baiju Raj, another official at the Wildlife SOS said the operations were restored after a few hours but the monkey was still not captured as the NGO was awaiting permission from the authorities.
It was not the first time that passengers at the New Delhi airport were troubled by unwelcome intruders.
In March, a rat had delayed an international flight by more than three hours. In November last year, a rabid dog entered the airport and bit four people before it was captured in a three-hour chase.

Below are some of the Indian record holders for some of their weird acts:
1) Radhakant Bajpai holds a record for growing his ear hair more than five inches long.
2) Vadivelu Karunakaren holds a record for skipping 10 miles in 58 minutes.
3) Arvind Morarbhai Pandya holds a record for running 940 miles backward in 26 days and seven hours.
4) 'Orissa man claims a record for cracking open 72 coconuts by elbow!' as per the Hindustan Times, a leading newspaper. 'Uttar Pradesh boy can write on mustard seeds!' said a headline.
5) As per the Times of India: 'A Man looks to set world record pulling vehicles with mustache.'
6) Guinness Rishi _ yes, his name is Guinness & he holds a record for downing a bottle of ketchup in 39 seconds. Rishi changed his first name from Har Parkash to Guinness after earning a record for being part of a team that kept a motor scooter in motion for 1,001 hours. To claim the record for oldest adoptee, he adopted his 61-year-old brother-in-law. (He's going to beat that one again now that he's 'working with a 90-year-old.') He built the world's tallest sugar cube tower at 64 inches. Rishi is so passionate about Guinness that he wrote in his will _ the longest will in the world, of course _ that he wants his record books used as the kindling at his cremation. (His wife, Bimla, claims to have the record for shortest will in the world: 'All to son.')
7) In June, a doctor couple in southern India boasted that their 15-year-old son had tried to become the world's youngest surgeon by delivering a baby by Caesarean section _ a procedure they proudly filmed.
8) Last year, a 4-year-old boy attempted to run 43 miles to earn a spot in a local record book. Doctors stopped the child after 40 miles and found him to be undernourished and anemic. His coach has been arrested and charged with torturing the child.

In Indian film Industry "Bollywood", all the stars from Amitabh Bachchan to Sanjay Dutt, and Kareena Kapoor to Govinda — they all resort to lucky mascots, gems, colours and charms. Below are pet superstitions of some Bollywood stars in India:
Bobby Deol: He was extremely superstitious before, but is gradually giving it up. “Earlier, I would touch wood for almost everything and used to keep a block of wood in my bag; not anymore. I wear yellow on Thursdays since I’m a Vishnu( Indian God) devotee, and I won’t get rid of this habit. Fortunately for me, a cat crossing the road has always proven to be lucky,” he says.
Actress Nagma: She waits for someone to cross the road once it’s crossed by the kali billi ( black cat) . And she isn’t the only one.
Actress Riya Sen too believes in this one, along with a few others. Says Riya, “I also believe that making your pets dance, having scissors directly placed on your hand and staying in room No. 13 are all ill-omens. But I can ditch these if I want to,” she says.
Being obsessed with a particular letter are also typical of Bollywood. The K fixation of Ektaa Kapoor, Karan Johar and Rakesh Roshan is well known.
Jeetendra also reportedly changed his name before joining films. The other member of the Kapoor family to have changed the spelling of his name is actor Tusshar Kapoor. But, he says, “I can change it back to the original one and it won’t make a difference to me. I did it since my mom asked me to. I follow tarot card reader Sunita Menon’s advice, but I’m not superstitious otherwise,” he says.
Diana Hayden: She believes in just one superstition. “I throw salt over my left shoulder if I drop some. It doesn’t make any sense, but I can’t get rid of the habit and am very embarrassed about it,” she says.
Aishwarya Rai: She wears huge white lucky stones.
Lata Mangeshkar: She considers her mammoth diamond ring lucky.
Shilpa Shetty: She wears a yellow sapphire after she tasted success.
Kunal Kapoor: He always leaves a bit of food on his plate after finishing his meal.
Weird habits indeed.

For a Punjab engineer from Mohali in Punjab state of India, it was his wife who proved to be the woman behind this man's success as he won a bounty of Rs.10 million(US$ 2,50,000)in the state lottery as his wife forced him to buy a ticket.
The man, Kulwinder Singh, won the Rakhi bumper of Punjab State Lottery and he says his wife Maninder Kaur proved lucky for him. They were married in April.
'I was never interested in buying a lottery ticket. But this time my wife insisted that I buy a ticket. And to make her happy I bought it,' a visibly happy Kulwinder said after winning the lottery.
He now plans to buy a house from the money he has won.
Originally hailing from Kashmir, Kulwinder's family settled in Mohali, a suburb of Chandigarh, a few years ago.
The Punjab State Lottery is quite popular in the state and other parts of the country. Lotteries are, however, banned in neighbouring Haryana and Chandigarh.

Wanna learn how to catch snakes, here is a teacher who teaches this trick. Meet Chaman Singh Chauhan from Udaipur, the city of lakes in India's desert state of Rajasthan, who takes classes on snakes, their habits, their habitats and even how to catch them!!!!!!!!
Everything and anything on snakes is taught in his class - their identification, their ways, antidotes to their bites and also anecdotes associated with the slithering beings.
Chauhan, a snake lover, has been taking these classes for nearly four years now at his home in Udaipur and that too free of cost. His classes on snakes attracts 10-15 people each session. And his students could be anywhere between 9 years old and 25 years old.
While his theory classes look like any normal tuition session, his practical lessons - complete with live snakes for demonstration - could give anyone a fright. Snakes are caught for imparting knowledge to students and they are later released in the nearby forest area, he clarified.
'I tell my students that in Rajasthan over 250 species of snakes are found and of these only four are poisonous. Cobra and viper are the most poisonous and most of the snakes do not come near human territory,' explained Chauhan, who is considered an encyclopedia on snakes.
'We have a lot of misconceptions about snakes. Most of the snakes are man's friend as they save crops in the field by eating rats and other rodents,' he pointed out.

Recently Sanjay Dutt, the famous bollywood star visited the “Shingnapur Shani Temple”. He has been facing the legal problems from sometime and had to stay in jail. He visited the temple to pray for getting relieved from his problems. Now here below is about the “Shingnapur Shani Temple” where the temple is without a roof & the villagers of Shingnapur have their houses without doors and without any glass panes on the windows.
In today’s scientific world, the inexplicable events of God Shani in Shingnapur in Maharashtra state of India leave his devotees bewildered. No matter how much staunch an atheist one is, in the presence of Shani, one’s head automatically bows in reverence. Though there are many sacred places in Maharashtra devoted to God Shani, Shingnapur holds a unique significance. Shingnapur is situated on the Pune-Aurangabad Highway, about 70 kms far from Shirdi. Its unusual qualities make it a distinct place of pilgrimage any where in the world; one can realize it only after a personal visit.
Over here women are not allowed to worship the deity. Women are not allowed to touch the deity but they can have darshan from some distance.
God without a dwelling:The swayambhu (natural-formed) idol of Lord Shani is of a natural black color. Standing eternally open on an altar for around 150 years, it is 5'-9" high and 1'-6" broad. Lord Shani never accepts any chhatra (shelter). This abode of Shani Dev is a massive roofless structure built on a square platform. It is open from all sides. This can well be witnessed as even in hot sun, whirlwind, rain, heat or cold, whatever the weather the deity stands here without a shelter. Many people in the past and even in the present have tried to raise a temple for the deity but in vain. "Lord Shani has invariably appeared in the dreams telling them, ‘I do not need any shelter’. He prefers to stay in the open and protects his devotees", believes a member of the Trust. It is an irony that even though Shingnapur is a very popular and important place of pilgrimage, it has to date no temple to house the unusual deity and to enhance its beauty.
Village having houses without doors:Shingnapur, a sleepy village of around 3000 people, has no doors and no glass panes on the windows of the local houses. One uses either wooden planks or curtains on the doors just to ward off stray animals. The practice of bolting or locking the houses is conspicuous by its absence. And this all is reportedly done at the "command of Lord Shani". No theft ever occurs here, as the Lord Shani, the guardian deity of the village is always there to mete out instant punishment” so claim the residents of Shani-Shinganapur and this claim has become its claim to fame.
As per the villagers: "We don’t find this practice strange anyway. We have been doing it for thousands of years. We keep our money and valuables in a bag or a box; they are never stolen. Even the devotees who come here for darshan are told not to lock their vehicles. There are no thieves. If anyone steals he will have to pay for his misdeed by the miracle of God Shani."

An impatient mother when got stuck at a traffic stop & was running late for her son’s school, slapped a cop in Kolkatta city in West Bengal State of India.
Susmita Chandra (33) was taking her son to school when she got stuck at Cossipore crossing on BT Road at 10.30 am. After fuming for a while, she decided to investigate the reason for the jam. Here is the Love Story of two elephants where a wild tusker broke through the fence of a circus and eloped with a female circus elephant.
The incident occurred at Kumarbazar in Raniganj in West Bengal state of India, where the Olympic Circus had put up a tent 10 days ago.
Drawn by calls of the four female elephants in the circus, the 26-year-old tusker raided the circus, broke the tin barricade and barged into the stable where the female elephants were kept, reports said.
After scanning the four pachyderms, he finally settled for Savitri - four years older than him - and coaxed her into fleeing with him into the jungle. It didn't take long for Savitri to give in to his wild charms. Despite entreaties from her keeper, the female elephant broke free of her shackles and went with him into the jungle, where the residents spotted the two frolicking near a pond.
The tale of love and passion has shocked Savitri's manager Chandranath Banerjee, who has sought the Forest Department's help to trace the female elephant. "I have never seen anything like this. Savitri's loss could be huge as she was one of our prized elephants," he said.
The elephants were finally spotted moving from Badam Bagan to Nepali Para in Raniganj by a district Forest officer in Durgapur, Kumar Bimal.
When a team of Forest Department officials along with her keeper Kalimuddin Sheikh tried cajoling Savitri to come back, she entwined her trunk around her lover's leg in a show of defiance.
A crestfallen Kalimuddin said this was the first time she had disobeyed him.
"I have raised Savitri since childhood and she has always been obedient. But the tusker seems to have won her affection," he said.
