Isn't it weird that someone marries a hill so that his mother could "clear herself of a curse". The rationale behind all such things can never be ascertained as these are simply beyond any reason.
Here is this 16-year-old youth Robin from Jharkhand village in India, who was married to a hill so that his mother could "clear herself of a curse".
The marriage of Robin, a resident of Bordih village in Jamshedpur, about 170 km from Ranchi, was solemnised with Laxmi hill. Robin garlanded the top of the hill and kissed it. Laxmi hill was also decorated by the villagers. A grand feast was organised for 400 villagers. Robin's mother, Keswari Devi, once fell down and injured herself while climbing the hill.
She believed that she had been cursed by the hill, which should be appeased at any cost.

Till now you might have heard of Photo ID cards for humans but have you ever heard of Photo ID cards being issued for cows or other cattle? Yes, to prevent Indian cattle being smuggled along India's border into Bangladesh, authorities have come up with a solution to issue Photo ID cards for the cattle.
People of Murshidabad in West Bengal state of India, a district bordering Bangladesh, were asked by the authorities to prepare identification photos for all local cattle.
The ID cards are being issued by the local administration to help the Indian Border Security Force and police intercept cattle smuggled across the border.
According to one estimate, at least 25,000 cows are smuggled into Bangladesh every day from India, mostly through the Indian state of West Bengal.
People in border villages are busy getting their cattle photographed in local studios for the special ID cards to avoid harassment by the security force and police who often raid villages in search of cattle waiting to be smuggled to Bangladesh slaughterhouses.
Valid for two years, each laminated cattle ID card, apart from displaying the picture of the animal and its owner, carries vital information about the animal, such as its color, height, sex and length of horns. It carries the owner's name and address and sometimes descriptions of the animal like one "horn missing" or "half tail lost."

Earlier you might have seen the above such pictures in Taliban rule in Afghanistan but as per one "Zee TV channel" report, a cop in Bihar state of India beat a suspected thief in front of a television camera, when the cop tied the victim to his motorbike and dragged him.
"Mohammed Aurangzeb" a muslim was accused of stealing a woman's gold chain on in Bhagalpur district of Bihar state of India, one of India's most lawless states.
Television pictures showed men had tied the shirtless young man's hands behind his back, and were viciously kicking and punching him and pulling his hair as he writhed on the ground, soaked in sweat and mud, begging for mercy, his trousers unbuttoned.
When the cops turned up, one cop tied Aurangzeb's legs to the back of a police motorbike while another hit him with a cane. They dragged him along the road behind the bike on his stomach and chest.
"He was dragged for some time and the police constable stopped his bike only when Aurangzeb lost consciousness," as per the Afzal Amanullah, the state's home secretary.

In a shocking incident a drunk police officer has killed two young girls by throwing them in a river for stealing firewood.
The pair, aged six and 13, had sneaked into the man's orchard with friends.
As per a
news report, policeman threw the two girls into a fast-flowing river and they drowned.
He was helped by another man. Both have since fled.
The incident happened in Manipur village under Mathurapur police station in Samastipur district, about 90 km from Patna in Bihar state of India.
Catastrophic monsoon flooding in the region has made food and fuel scarce.
The case has shed light on the class system in India.
Members of the upper classes - such as the policeman - in rural areas often treat those at the bottom of the Hindu caste system as lesser human beings.
Low-caste people in India endure a disproportionate number of beatings, rapes and killings.

'I will also host a grand feast. My customers, who include ministers, legislators, officials, businessmen and journalists, have assured me that they will join the feast and bless the goat couple.'

Cops in Utter Pradesh state of India have taken up a new job. Cops of Kakrauli police station, in Muzaffarnagar, have been reduced to mere snake charmers. For, they prefer to carry a "Been(snake charmers musical instrument)" to a baton or bullets.
They are forced to do so to avoid the poisonous snakes, that visit the police station every now and then.
Though the police officers posted at Kakrauli have tried every possible method to curb the menace, nothing has proved effective. Not even a four-feet-deep pit dug around the police station boundary wall or appointing a professional snake charmer, has rid the premise of the reptiles.
"We cannot bring our families to live with us at the police quarters constructed in the vicinity of the police station for the fear of snakes," Sirohi says.
Local villagers attribute this snake phenomenon to folklore that quite a few snakes were killed by the labourers involved in the construction of the police station about half a decade ago. But the police officers who had once held the charge of the police station insist that the menace is because of Berda jungles which are in close vicinity.

In India, New Delhi councilor Mohan Prashad Bharadwaj has given a weird solution to the problem of stray dogs. Already New Delhi's stray dogs lead a difficult life. But if it was up to Mohan Prashad, they would find themselves in more hot water - soup to be precise.
Shipping the thousands of strays to Korea, where dog meat is widely consumed in soup, was one of the more outlandish ideas proposed at a city council meeting to deal with the problem, the Hindustan Times newspaper reported.
None of the ideas - from the aforementioned Korean plan to drugging the canines so they sleep through the day - are likely to be implemented anytime soon. Instead, the council chairman asked the presumably more responsible veterinary department to come up with a workable plan.
Tens of thousands of strays live in New Delhi. Many are often cared for by people in the areas they live, but some become aggressive, and bites and rabies are a problem. Efforts to sterilize them have been largely unsuccessful.
City councilor Mohan Prashad Bharadwaj said he had read that Koreans are fond of dog meat and "maybe we can send all the stray dogs of Delhi there," the paper quoted him as saying.
A soup with dog meat called boshintang is popular in Korea, especially on the three hot "dog days" of summer on the lunar calendar. The traditional belief is that dog meat helps boost stamina and virility, but activists regularly criticize the practice and call for bans on eating dog meat.

It seems Indian politics is stooping to another low. As per Indian TV channels report, India's Prime Minister Manmohan Singh has accused that opposition party's BJP leaders had wished death for him because of his resolve to sign the nuclear deal. He has said this in an interview to the India Today news magazine.
Speaking on the attitude of Opposition party, the Prime Minister said: "It requires a big leap in approach and the attitude of the BJP is disappointing. They didn’t even believe I would last as the Prime Minister and some leaders even did havans(special spiritual prayers) that I should die on a certain day."
"But I have faith on higher force. I believe it was my destiny to be PM. I have the courage of conviction," he said.
The revelation came in the context of remarks made by NDA convenor George Fernandes against Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, in which he reportedly said if it was China, they would have shot him in the head by a bullet.

In a bizarre statement former Indian Defense minister George Fernandes has said that if Indian Prime Minister Manmohan Singh was China’s head of government he would have been shot for “bluffing” to the nation over a controversial nuclear deal with the United States.
The agreement opens the way for civilian nuclear cooperation between the two countries, but critics say it will eventually hurt India’s nuclear security because of US laws on nuclear trade governing the pact.
Accusing the PM of “betraying” the country by going ahead with the nuclear deal, George Fernandes said: “If it were China, they would have settled it with one bullet in his head.”
“The prime minister of the country has betrayed the nation by continuous bluffing, something unbecoming of the head of the government... The Americans chose to make a monkey of our PM by using the 60th birthday of India to spill the beans... what PM has succeeded in doing is to strip our armed forces from the strength that was created by the Vajpayee govt.”

Whether Aishwarya Rai married a tree before she wed Abhishek, may be debatable ( Amitabh Bachchan denied such reports after her marriage to Abhishek) but here is a bizarre marriage that actually happened between two Trees in Southern India.
Villagers of a non-descript hamlet Elakampalayam near Sirumuga village in Tamil Nadu state of India carried out a wedding between 'Neem' and 'Peepal' trees in an effort to spread the message to save trees & forests which are a boon of nature & for keeping the environment pollution-free.
The marriage was solemnized by priest of Balamuniyappa temple in the village amidst chanting of hymns and Nadaswaram recital, similar to a typical south Indian marriage.
The priest tied the nuptial knot on the Neem tree on behalf of the 'bridegroom' Peepal.
Both the trees were adorned with flowers. Neem tree was given a bridal look by draping a yellow silk saree over it while peepal was covered with a golden-silk saree, according to villagers who attended the 'marriage function'.
After the marriage, around 100 villagers assembled there blessed the 'couple' by throwing the 'sacred rice' mixed with vermilion and sandal in line with the tradition.

"India Shining", "Indian economy rising at 9-10% per annum", "India has maximum number of Dollar Billionaires in Asia", "India nowadays has maximum per capita income since India became independent in 1947". All these phrases paint a rosy picture of India which is emerging as a great economy but here are the hard facts about India.
The number of people below the poverty line may have come down, but 79% of unorganized workers, 88% of SC/STs, 80% of the OBC population and 84% of Muslims belong to the "poor and vulnerable group". Around 836 million people in India that is seventy-seven percent of Indians live on less than half a dollar a day in one of the world's hottest economies, a government report said.
The state-run National Commission for Enterprises in the Unorganized Sector (NCEUS) said most of those living on below 20 rupees (50 US cents) per day were from the informal labor sector with no job or social security, living in abject poverty.
"For most of them, conditions of work are utterly deplorable and livelihood options extremely few," said the report, entitled "Conditions of Work and Promotion of Livelihoods in the Unorganized Sector" as per the report.
"Such a sordid picture co-exists uneasily with a shining India that has successfully confronted the challenge of globalization powered by economic competition both within the country and across the world."
Around 26% of India's population lives below the poverty line, which is defined as 12 rupees per day, said officials.
Economic liberalization since the early 1990s has created a 300 million-strong middle class and led to an average annual economic growth of 8.6% over the last four years, but millions of the country's poor remain untouched by the boom.
According to the report, based on data from 2004-2005, 92% of India's total workforce of 457 million were employed as agricultural laborers and farmers, or in jobs such as working in quarries, brick kilns or as street vendors.
The report said the majority of those working and living under "miserable conditions" were lower castes, tribal people and Muslims and the most disadvantaged of these were women, migrant workers and children.

In India Bollywood films show so many Love Stories in movies & many young people are inspired by these to emulate these stories. But here is the story of a person who emulated one such Love Story & landed himself in jail.
Here is a teenager, 19 yrs old who went so far to impress his girlfriend......Yes, here is Abogit Samson, an engineering student who stole a Mercedes- Benz from a Bangalore showroom & drove 1,000 kilometers in the stolen car, just to impress & meet his girlfriend, a student of Ruia College. But alas, Mumbai police arrested him for his reckless rush when he was intercepted along with two friends, both teenagers, on a flyover after a chase.
“The boy told me he did this to impress his girlfriend, whom he had met when he was living in Mumbai. We have lodged a vehicle theft offence and handed the boys to Bangalore police,” said deputy commissioner Sunil Ramanand.
Asked if Samson, whose father works with a multinational company in Bangalore, met his girlfriend, Ramanand said: “No. I am sure she would not have been impressed with the antics of her boyfriend.”
The police said Samson, whose family moved to Bangalore a few years back, and his friends — Nitin Joseph, 17, and Neeraj Mohandas, 16 — visited the showroom on Wednesday on the pretext of buying a second-hand Mercedes.
Samson told the staff he wanted to go on a test drive and drove around the Silicon city with a showroom representative before assaulting and throwing him out of the car.
He then hit the highway to Mumbai, 998km away, for the scent of his woman, much like the blind Lt-Col Frank Slade who goes on an audacious test ride by zipping around New York City in a Ferrari.
But unlike Samson, Slade, immortalized by Al Pacino in the film Scent of a Woman, took off to fulfill one of his last wishes.

Just imagine a person who fought the British Raj for India's freedom before year 1947. One who feels the bullet and baton injuries he suffered in the Quit India movement of 1942 pale in the face of his miseries today. One who is 83 years old now & one who is forced to pull a rickshaw on the streets of Jharkhand state of India.
Yes, here is Somar Sundi aged 83 years, who is deprived of a freedom fighter's pension and deserted by the children from his first marriage & is pulling a rickshaw at this age just to survive. Sundi who is a resident of Hazaribagh district, took to pulling rickshaws after suffering huge losses in the vegetable business two years ago.
Sundi had sustained two bullet wounds on the shoulder in a police firing during the Quit India movement. 'I fought for freedom along with Jayaprakash Narayan,' he said.
'Those who are in power have forgotten the freedom fighters and the importance of independence.'
The emaciated Sundi does not get any pension, as he has no records to prove that he was a freedom fighter, though his neighbors vouch for it.
Sometimes he has to cut down on food to pay the house rent.
Sundi said the children from his second marriage were too young to earn a living. 'There is no one who can help us. At present I have no option but to pull a rickshaw for survival,' he said.
He wishes things could change once again. 'We need to launch a second movement to end corruption and poverty to fulfil the desire of Mahatma Gandhi.'
Jaswa Devi, his second wife, is also bitter: 'The person who gave his youth to the country's independence is struggling to eke out a living. This reflects the plight of the country.'
It's high time Indian Government takes care of this old man who devoted so many years for India's freedom from British Raj.

Here is the plight of Bihar flood affected people who are forced to live on the national highway for days, endlessly awaiting relief.
"We have no food left after our stock of sattu (roasted gram powder) provided by a voluntary organization ended Monday. For the last nine days we have been living dangerously on the highway, hoping to get some relief," as per Munheshwar Jha who is among hundreds of people in flood-ravaged Bihar's Darbhanga district.
There is nothing left to eat except a little dry chura (beaten rice). They do not know when the wait will end.
"Two days ago, a few food packets were dropped by air force helicopters. But it was impossible for old people like us to catch them as hundreds of hungry people fought with each other for it," a frail Jha said.
"All sections of society ... from landowners to landless laborers, the poor and the rich are forced to take shelter on the national highway. Nature's fury hardly discriminates," said Narayan Chowdhary, a schoolteacher.
The floods in Darbhanga have displaced hundreds of thousands of people, now living either on the highway or on embankments without food and water for days.
Hundreds of thousands of people in Bihar have been displaced and are without essentials including medicines for days in the floods the UN says are the "worst in living memory".
According to the preliminary estimate made by the disaster management department over 12 million people spread over 19 of Bihar's 38 districts are affected by floods. The disaster has claimed 91 lives so far.

Here is a thief from Kolkata city in West Bengal state of India who snatched a gold necklace worth US $11,00 from a woman as she shopped for toys & when cornered by police, he swallowed the necklace.
Police then thought of an ingenious way to retrieve the gold necklace swallowed by the thief - by making him gorge on bananas till he emitted it the natural way.
Mohsin alias Jainal has been made to swallow 36 bananas but the police had not been able to recover the precious piece of jewellery. Not willing to give up, they placed orders for more bananas. But when bananas could not do their job, police fed Mohsin rice, chicken and local bread, reported the BBC.
Finally the necklace, which appeared on an X-ray taken on the suspect, was excreted and retrieved.
Mohsin had snatched the gold chain worth Indian Rs.45,000 (US $11,00) from Kiran Bahari, a resident of Lower Rawdon Street in central Kolkata. But he was caught by residents and handed over to the police.
