Branded witch and banished, woman seeks police help

Dungarpur (Rajasthan), A 50-year-old woman in Rajasthan’s tribal-dominated Dungarpur district has complained to police that she was branded a witch, tortured and banished from her village, police said Saturday.

The decision was made in the hot jungle night: Bhobesh Pahan and his two adult sons, Nirmal and Bimal, must die. Two weeks ago, the villagers of Poaltore, near the border with Bangladesh in India, had a meeting to decide what to do about the spate of illness gripping the village. Branded witch, tribal woman forced to dip hands in hot oil

JAIPUR: A 32-year-old tribal woman was severely beaten up and forced to pick a silver coin from a vessel filled with boiling oil after a village panchayat in Sirohi district accused her of practising witchcraft. The woman, who was later thrown out of her house by own family, is now undergoing treatment in a hospital for serious injuries. In Chhattisgarh state of India, as per Police, 17 villagers have been arrested over the killing of a woman suspected of being a witch.

Woman branded Witch & forced to eat burning coal

Here is another example of irrational thinking of some people in our society where a woman was branded a witch and tortured & that too happened with an 85-year-old Dalit poor woman in Rajasthan. She was mercilessly beaten and forced to keep a burning coal in her mouth on the suspicion that she practiced black magic.
