Manasa, Madhya Pradesh: In a town in Madhya Pradesh, 90 children in uniform go every day to a women's toilet complex that they call school.

Classes are interrupted whenever women need to use the bathrooms. The children are made to turn the other way and wait till the women are finished.

Indian man killed for taking too long in toilet

Mumbai: An Indian man paid with his life when he kept ‘too long’ in the toilet at a slum in the country’s capital Mumbai. The 26-year-old was reportedly attacked by another man for taking too much time on the toilet.

During the fight between the two men, the suspect, who is now in police custody, allegedly struck the deceased on the head and that affected the brain. Toilet Shortage in India Costs More Than $50 Billion to Nation

A lack of toilets costs India more than $50 billion a year, mostly through premature deaths and hygiene-related diseases, a study found.

Illness, lost productivity and other consequences of fouled water and inadequate sewage treatment trimmed 6.4 percent from India’s gross domestic product in 2006, or the equivalent of $53.8 billion, according to the study by the World Bank’s Water and Sanitation Program. World Toilet Summit opens in New Delhi

World Toilet Summit has opened in New Delhi. It includes such ideas as a solar-powered commode that runs without water, the 2007 World Toilet Summit is no bathroom novelty show.

Participants at New Delhi's four-day gathering of experts, toilet aficionados, and even royalty from 44 countries are grappling with health and sanitation issues that endanger almost one-third of the world's people who don't have toilets.

The United Nations estimates there are some 2.6 billion people without access to basic sanitation, over half living in India and China.

In India there are 700 million people who do not have access to safe and hygienic toilets. Is it the same India where economy is growing at 9-10% every year????
