World's shortest woman

Nagpur: An Indian woman was named the world's shortest by Guinness World Records on Friday as she celebrated her 18th birthday in central India.

Jyoti Amge stood just 62.8 centimeters (24.7 inches) tall - shorter than the average 2-year-old child - when Guinness representatives visiting from London measured her at a ceremony attended by about 30 family and friends in the town of Nagpur, in Maharashtra state. World's oldest prisoner at 108

Serving life sentence in a prison in Uttar Pradesh’s Gorakhpur town, about 275 km from here, 108-year-old Brij Bihari could very well be the oldest prisoner in the world.

After spending about 24 years in the jail on the charge of killing four people along with some others, Brij Bihari, a resident of Barahara Mahant village, could finally expect to breathe fresh air on Republic Day.

Bihari and 18 others were sentenced to life imprisonment for the killings at Bariyapur Shahi village in the district in 1987. Of them, three died while serving their sentence in jail.
As many as 16 members of Brij Bihari’s family, including himself, had been named in the killings. The sensational killings, which were attributed to old enmity, had evoked an outcry then. Read More................World's oldest prisoner at 108

World Toilet Summit opens in New Delhi

World Toilet Summit has opened in New Delhi. It includes such ideas as a solar-powered commode that runs without water, the 2007 World Toilet Summit is no bathroom novelty show.

Participants at New Delhi's four-day gathering of experts, toilet aficionados, and even royalty from 44 countries are grappling with health and sanitation issues that endanger almost one-third of the world's people who don't have toilets.

The United Nations estimates there are some 2.6 billion people without access to basic sanitation, over half living in India and China.

In India there are 700 million people who do not have access to safe and hygienic toilets. Is it the same India where economy is growing at 9-10% every year????
