Bangalore: As hundreds of people gather, young children are thrown from the top of a 30-foot temple. This is as an annual ritual in Karnataka's Bagalkot district that was conducted on Monday and yesterday.

Sangli (Maharashtra): Authorities have launched an awareness campaign in Maharashtra's Sangli district to rid the locals of practising bizarre superstitious rituals.

Buzz up!Villagers in Sangli follow a ritual of lowering the infants into a 50-feet deep well with a belief it would help in increasing the life of the kids.

Raipur: In a bizarre ritual that took place midnight last on the outskirts of Raipur, three women known as the 'Navratri witches' and claiming to be blessed by goddess Durga, slapped people while chanting the names of the goddess to rid them of dreaded diseases like AIDS and cancer.

In a weird stone pelting ritual one person was killed and over 400 injured as villagers pelted stones at each other as part of an annual ritual in memory of two lovers in Chhindwara district of Madhya Pradesh, police said. Men from Pandhurna and Sawargaon villages, located on opposite banks of the river Jam in Chhindwara district, about 400 km from here, threw stones at each other during the festival known as Gotmar, which was observed Sunday. In a weird religious tradition a village in Solapur,in Maharashtra state of India, has a dangerous tradition of throwing newborns from a height of 50 feet onto a sheet, which is held by devotees.

The infants are thrown off the roof of the Baba Sheikh Umar Saheb Dargah in Musti village in Solapur. This is an age-old tradition practiced by couples who are blessed with a child after taking a vow at the dargah. The devotees also believe that this ritual is good for the health of the child. Weird Child-dropping ritual

A Weird ritual of dropping children between one and five years from a height of up to 20 feet in a Karnataka village to fulfil a vow to the gods will be banned, a senior state official has said.

The annual ritual takes place in December at the Shiva Parvathi temple coinciding with the village fair in Nidoni village in Bijapur district in this southern Indian state otherwise known globally for its software and outsourcing industry.

Couples without children for a long time take a vow that if they are blessed with a child, they will have their newborn dropped from atop the Shiva Parvathi temple, said panchayat secretary Ramesh Gawari, a native of Nidoni, 550 km northwest of Bangalore.Read more.......................Bizarre child-dropping ritual faces ban in Karnataka
