NAKALI: A dried-up and polluted lake in eastern India has become a major pilgrimage site attracting thousands of people a day after claims that its mud cures cancer and other diseases.

Bhopal: The Madhya Pradesh government plans to write “I am poor” on walls of houses of people who hold ‘below poverty line’ (BPL) cards to discourage the non-deserving families from availing benefits of the scheme, Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan said recently.

Talking to newsmen on the conclusion of the four-day special assembly session, convened to discuss the issue of creating a golden state, the chief minister said the government was compelled to curtail the foodgrain quota of the poor because the central government was providing grains for 41 lakh BPL families while there were 61 lakh such families in the state. Dad shoots bride dead

Chandigarh: A 19-year-old who had recently married a man from a different caste against her parents’ wishes was shot dead in a Punjab village by her father and other relatives who also killed her mother-in-law.

'Dead' boy along with girlfriend lands at police station

Muzaffarnagar (UP): In a sensational twist to the suspected honour killing case, a college student, who was reportedly killed by the brother of his girlfriend, and her beloved landed at a police station here this evening.

Catching the cops off-guard, both Ajit Saini, a student of Business Administration, and his girlfriend Anshu, who was missing, surfaced at the police station, SP Rajiv Malhotra told PTI. The two were being interrogated at the police station, he said.

Bhopal (Madhya Pradesh): "I found this exhibition quite exciting as I came to know that in States like Tamil Nadu, ghosts are worshipped. I belong to Uttar Pradesh and nothing like this happens there," said Gaurav Saxena, a visitor.

Rush of applicants for hangman job

The 'honour' and status of being known as the man who executed the most notorious terrorist in India's history, the Mumbai attacker Ajmal Amir Kasab, has attracted a rush of new applicants for the job as hangman.

Kasab was convicted on 86 counts of waging war on India, terrorism and joint responsibility for more than 50 murders in an attack in which a total of 166 were killed.

Coimbatore (Tamil Nadu): In an attempt to enter the Guinness Book of World Records, a fourteen- year-old girl, Bala Soundarya Lakshmi, hailing from Tamil Nadu's Coimbatore city claims to have made a 306-meter-long drawing.

Buzz up!Lakshmi chose to draw continuously to enter the 'Longest Drawing by an Individual' category in the Guinness Book of World records.
