Girl commits suicide after losing battle over remote

Agra: The war of the remote, played out in households all over the country, took a fatal turn when a 16-year-old here committed suicide allegedly because she couldn’t get the TV from her brother who was watching the IPL match, police said Wednesday.

Using Liquor to improve Potato harvest

Farmers in the Agra division of Uttar Pradesh - popularly known as the potato basket of India - have been spraying water laced with country liquor to improve their potato crop.

'Farmers in Khandauli block (in Agra district) have been using 'deshi' (country) liquor diluted with water to spray their crops. It is safer compared to pesticides and the quality of the crop also shows signs of improvement,' said a potato cultivator of Khandauli, 20 km from Agra on the road towards Aligarh town. Taj Mahal & a Slum of Howrah

What is common between Taj Mahal & a dingy tenement in Howrah slum near Kolkata in West Bengal state of India?

Taj Mahal has been named one of the "New Wonders of the World" & here is "Sultana Begum", the 54-year-old great granddaughter-in-law of the last Mughal Emperor "Bahadur Shah Zafar", who was a direct descendent of Shah Jahan who built the Taj Mahal. Sultana's husband, late Mirza Mohd Bedar Bukht, was the direct descendant of Bahadur Shah Zafar and crown queen Zeenat Mehal.

"Sultana Begum" lives in her home in a West Bengal slum at Howrah. She lives in a 66 sq ft dingy room at Foreshore Road in Howrah district & is getting Indian Rs.400 ( US$ 10 ) as monthly pension from the Indian government.

Nevertheless, she was full of joy & happiness when marble mausoleum in Agra was named one of the "New Wonders of the World" in Lisbon.

'It was one of the happiest moments of my life. I stayed up till late in the night to watch the telecast of the results from Lisbon,' an ecstatic Sultana Begum said.

Lawyers tie a man to a tree, beat him

In the city of "Taj Mahal" in India , Indian Lawyers tied a young man to a tree and beat him outside a court in India for refusing to marry one of their relatives.

Victim had actually come to a court in the city of Agra in Uttar Pradesh state of India to settle a dispute over marrying the niece of one of the lawyers.

Indian TV channels showed the whole story where abusive lawyers were shown tearing off the man's shirt, tying him to a tree trunk and cutting bald patches into his hair. The 22-year-old victim was also beaten up badly.
