Basti (Uttar Pradesh): Stirred by poverty in villages and rising fuel prices, a candidate has decided shun the use of costly vehicles and is seeking votes by riding a buffalo in the Basti Sadar assembly constituency of Uttar Pradesh, which goes to polls next month.

Elections in Uttar Pradesh will be held in seven phases from February 8 to March 3.

Prajatantrik Congress Party candidate Ghamalu Chaudhary said: “I am campaigning while sitting on a buffalo. The prices of petrol and diesel are at its peak. The big politicians from the big parties are campaigning while sitting in luxury cars, but I am working alongside the poor people and I have seen their poverty, and thus, I am campaigning by sitting on a buffalo.” Read More................Candidate shuns luxury, campaigns on buffalo in poll bound Uttar Pradesh

If actors are equipped in throwing tantrums to their actor friends and showed their smartness in naming their pet in the name of their rival then why not the aam jantas.

In the reality game show hosted by Salman Khan, ‘Dus Ka Dum’, a doodh wala (Milkman) set the show on fire with his tongue-in-cheeks jokes and even left Salman Khan behind who is known for his humorous comments. The studio audience broke into laughter when the dhoodh wala quipped that he named his buffalo after the name of Katrina Kaif and Aishwarya Rai. In India it is not uncommon that legal court cases go on for years together & earlier we have known of a story in which a case is still going against a person for stealing a pair of oxen for 33 years. Now here is a case of the Punjab Police, who since 1973, have been pursuing a case of buffalo theft till three months ago when the two accused, natives of a village near Jalandhar, were sent behind bars. But it was also not correct & the Punjab and Haryana High Court came to the rescue of the two after it discovered that the stolen cattle had been traced the same year.

Earlier, the police had taken the plea that the two buffaloes were never recovered and the challan was yet to be presented to ensure that the trial court dismissed the bail of the two accused, Mohan Singh and Jodha Singh.

The case dates back to February 9, 1973 when the police booked the two residents of Malsihan village on charges of theft after a resident of Dhakha complained that two of her buffaloes had gone missing. A man said he had seen Mohan Singh and Jodha Singh with the buffaloes.

But when the police party reached the spot, the two fled, following which they were declared proclaimed offenders. The duo was finally arrested from a petrol pump three months ago and sent to the Ludhiana Central Jail.
