'Osama Bin Laden' Shot Dead in Assam
As per earlier post 'Osama' to be shot dead by December 31, 2006 , Assam Government in India had ordered the killing of the Rogue Elephant nicknamed "Osama Bin Laden" who was responsible for killing more than a dozen people & creating havoc in villages of Assam in India. Now as per Zee News report, Rogue Elephant nicknamed "Osama Bin Laden" has been finally killed in Assam's Sonitpur district. As per Deputy Forest Officer Chandan Bora, forest department has deputed the hunter Dwipen Ram Phukan to shot the elephant & sharpshooter killed the elephant at Behali tea estate in the district with the help of villagers.
The villagers helped in locating and identifying the elusive rogue elephant "Osama Bin Laden", whose footprints confirmed that it was the "most wanted" elephant. The tusk less male elephant who was 45 and 50 years old was about ten feet in height.
In Assam State of India, it has the largest Asiatic elephant population, which is estimated at 5,300, according to a recently released wildlife census. Earlier also reports of several incidents of elephants going berserk had happened. As per the official figures, Elephants have killed 239 people in Assam in the past five years, while 265 elephants have died during the same period, mainly these have been poisoned by angry humans, who were attacked by the beast.
