As per a news report, 10 million girls have been killed by their parents in India in the past 20 years as per the Minister for Women and Child Development 'Renuka Chowdhury' who was speaking at a seminar in Delhi University. Such a large scale of killing is there largely because female foetuses are aborted after sex determination tests & also through murder of newborn baby girls. How weird it is that Girls are seen as liabilities by many Indian families because of the banned but common practice of dowry, where the bride's parents pay cash and goods to the groom's family.

According to the 2001 census, the national sex ratio was 933 girls to 1,000 boys, while in the worst-affected northern state of Punjab, it was 798 girls to 1,000 boys. The ratio has fallen since 1991, due to the availability of ultrasound sex-determination tests. Although these tests are illegal but they are widely available and often lead to abortion of girl foetuses.

It is high time that Economic empowerment of women is done & people need to be educated to abstain from killing baby girls before & after their birth. Isn't it weird that people in India visit all the female deities in temples and pray there for a boy to be born in their family!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Read more........ 10m girls killed in 20 years!
