What do you do, if there are lot of snakes in your area or locality? What do you do, if residents of that area are afraid of snakes in the locality. Here is a weird way to tame those Snakes. In Badmer area in Rajasthan - India, there is a community which worships Snakes to dispel their fears of snakes. They have a belief that all these snakes can be tamed if they worship their Community deity - Goga Ji Maharaj who is the presiding deity over snakes.

For worshipping their Community deity, once in a year they have a ritual of dancing with live snakes. What they do is that they catch live snakes before the ritual, a dance program is organized in which hymns are recited with music in the name of Community deity - Goga Ji Maharaj. During this, people of the community including children of the community take live snakes in both left & right hands each, make a circle of people with each person carrying snakes in the hands & dance while reciting the hymns in the name of Community deity - Goga Ji Maharaj. This type of dance goes on for hours together & incidentally snakes do not bite the performers. After the ritual of dance is over, these snakes are again released & allowed to go unharmed in open environment. This type of dance is also called in local language as - Sarp Raas i.e. dancing with snakes in a circle.

Now what do you say of this weird form of ritual with live snakes. People of the community have only this belief that doing this ritual once in a year shall please their Community deity - Goga Ji Maharaj & he shall protect them from snakes through out the year.
