Hyherabad/Vijaywada:It seems to be a scene straight out of Bollywood potboiler. In July 2006, police handed over a decomposed body of a naxalite to his parents in the city, claiming that their son was ‘killed’ in Prakasam district. The shocked parents without a murmur performed his last rites.

But the joy of the family knew no bounds when they saw their son alive when on Monday, the police brought to the family a person arrested from Jaggaiahpet in Krishna along with an accomplice for establishing their identities. Read more......Dead naxal walks back to life in AP

'Elephant Boy' is now back in School

Earlier "Ganesh Vaibhav" was called the "Elephant Boy", but no longer now. Ganesh, aged six-years from India was born with the grotesque, life-threatening facial deformity. The boy, named after Ganesha, an Indian god with a trunk-like nose, became news in India after his father wrote to an ETV producer, asking him to profile the boy on TV. Ganesh's father supports his family by fermenting milk to make yogurt.

Reports in Indian newspapers said Ganesh's strange appearance caused him to be shunned. He had few friends and some schools denied him admission.

Now thanks to an operation of more than 10 hours, performed in India by a surgical team led by Sarnia plastic surgeon Sanjeev Kaila, Ganesh has a nose and eyes that look normal. Earlier Doctors told his father Ganesh would lose his eyes and possibly his life if they operated.

"It's a great nose, a cute button nose," said nurse Sheila Groombridge, who accompanied Kaila to southern India for the surgery at the NRI Academy of Sciences at Vijayawada in India.

Gone is the mass of brain tissue, covered only by stretched muscle and skin, that protruded from a hole between Ganesh's eyes, like a short elephant trunk.
The rare congenital skull defect, called a nasofrontal meningocele, put the boy at risk of such potentially fatal brain diseases as meningitis.

"The health risk is gone," said Kaila.

"Ganesh is healthy. He looks normal. He's back with his family and back in school.

Make marriage with your Valentine - Protesters tell couples in India

On Valentine's Day some Hard line Hindu groups had requested young couples not to visit parks with their Valentine & this time they lived up to it too. The loving couple from Vijayawada in South India would never have imagined that their outing on Valentine's Day in a Park shall enter for their wedlock in a few minutes.

Yes it happened with 23-year-old Vijay and 19-year-old Durga who set out for an outing in the Rajiv Gandhi Park in the city on Wednesday evening.

Vijay, an autorickshaw driver from Bhavanipuram, was sitting pretty with his ladylove and enjoying the snacks when a band of Bajrang Dal activists(Protesters) came to the park & started raising slogans against the practice of celebrating the Valentine's Day.

The activists, who were equipped with the basic material required for performing a marriage, such as a `mangalasutram' of only yellow thread and without the usual gold, some 'kumkum' and 'akshintalu' ( things used for a Hindu wedding), insisted that the boy tie the knot around the girl's neck if their love was true. The bashful couple had little choice but to heed to their advice, and the activists presided over their 'instant' marriage. The hunt continued as activists moved on to a nearby park to perform more 'marriages'.
