Unique Ritual to Propitiate Rain God

As the threat of drought looms large over Andhra Pradesh state of India, a unique three-day 'Maha Varuna Yagam' under the auspices of Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanam (TTD) began here to propitiate the rain god.

The state government and TTD authorities have made elaborate arrangements for the event by erecting 108 'homagundams' or small platforms formed with bricks for holy fire.

The 'Maha Varunayagam', is attended by over 5,000 people. Over 150 priests from the famous Hindu temple of Lord Venkateshwara began the rituals amidst singing of Vedic hymns. Read more.........................Unique ritual in Hyderabad to propitiate rain god
