As per a report, in a weird act in Vaishali district in Bihar state of India, a widow was paraded after tonsuring her head on the charge of stealing a few bananas. 55-year-old widow 'Desri Devi', was guilty of stealing bananas from the field of a farmer Dinesh Rai at Balua-Basant village. She was also fined Indian Rupees 2,500 ( US $ 55 ) by village head despite knowing that she earns her living by begging after her husband had died about a decade ago. As she expressed her inability to pay the hefty fine, a local barber was called and her hair were shaved off.

As per the poor lady, "Some people wanted me to be stripped and then paraded on the streets, but others stopped them from doing that. Still, I was paraded in the lanes of the village for no fault of mine," she said in the FIR lodged with the Lalganj police station. In fact Desri Devi was suffering from somnambulism & in her sleep had walked to the banana field where she was caught by the night-watchman.
