Subscribe to Weird India Subscribe to Weird India in MY YAHOO! Subscribe to Weird India in MY GOOGLE! Subscribe to Weird India in MY MSN! Subscribe to Weird India in MY AOL! Subscribe to Weird India in Rojo!

Just think, which temple is most visited in the world.......It is the temple of Tirupati Balaji or temple of Lord Venkateshwara & is famous for being the most-visited shrine in the world and its prime deity for being the richest God in the world. This temple is in the town of Chittor District of Andhra Pradesh in India & is located in the foot hills of Tirumala. It is around 140 km from Chennai and 740 km from Hyderabad city in India.

The ancient and sacred temple of Sri Venkateswara is located on the seventh peak, Venkatadri Hills on the southern banks of Sri Swami Pushkarini & because of this reason only Lord Balaji has been named Venkateswara. The Greatness & opulence of Lord Balaji, the Preserver of the Whole Universe, is reflected in his richly ornamented life-size idol in the Tirumala Tirupati temple.

In the temple the black idol of Lord Balaji is covered in gold, jewellery and precious ornaments and its height is 2 meters. The sacred shrine is visited by millions of devotees from far and wide and has been worshipped consistently since the past thirteen years. Every year more than 12 million people visit this temple from within India and the world. Every year the temple receives around Indian Rs 10 Billion ( More than 200 Million US$) in offerings from the devotees.

So now you can imagine the devotion & religious nature of Indian people & may sound weird to many people. Another strange thing is about the tradition of shaving off your head after visiting the temple & the human hairs collected here are even exported to other countries for making wigs for the people who are deprived of such precious possession. Does it sound weird to you........you only judge.....

Blow Horn

Subscribe to Weird India Subscribe to Weird India in MY YAHOO! Subscribe to Weird India in MY GOOGLE! Subscribe to Weird India in MY MSN! Subscribe to Weird India in MY AOL! Subscribe to Weird India in Rojo!

Honking horn from your vehicle is considered Bad manners in most of the civilized countries. Whenever, you go to some developed country, person honking horn is looked at as a crazy guy & people often ask the person, why he is honking the horn, as it disturbs all the people moving in the lane. But what about India. In India Honking Horn or Blowing Horn is considered a necessity by the Driver. Why its so?

It's in the habit of the Indian Driver to Blow Horn at full Volume, as it helps him to get passage among the lane or to overtake the other vehicles going in front of him. Whether you like it or not like it, it is his privileged right to Blow Horn at full volume. Over here in India it may create nuisance but you have to live with it. You can see all the trucks & lorries having got painted the words 'Blow Horn' on its back & to any foreigner, it looks amazing, why they have written 'Blow Horn' words on their vehicles. As per the explanation of the Indian Driver, if you have to overtake, you have to Blow Horn.

Even if you are standing on a traffic light, you shall find people Honking Horns for no reason. Its high time Indian people learn some discipline & just follow the traffic rules & minimize Blowing Horns of their vehicles.

Once in India, a person driving his car Got angry with the truck driver who was honking Horn at full mind blowing volume & asked the truck driver, why for no reason he is honking the horn. Certainly the truck driver stopped Blowing Horn, He came down & Blowed choicest of abuses to the Car person for stopping him from Blowing Horn!!!!!!!! Oh God, pl. give some sense to these nonsense people, Blowing Horns all the time from their vehicles for no reason.

How much Religious Indian people of Bombay are, you can imagine from the offerings made to Lord Ganesha / God Ganesha during the recently concluded Ganesha festival that lasted full one week in India. Total around 2.3 crores Indian rupees i.e. 5,00,000 $(USD) were offered to the LalBaug - Bombay temple in cash, jewelry & a Car was also given to the temple.

This temple is only one such temple in Bombay & I am writing only about the biggest offering received by one temple in Bombay. There are hundreds of such other temples in Bombay & thousands such in India & you can imagine how much total money as offering would have been received in India in all such temples during the week long Ganesha Festival.

Indian God Idol Who Drinks Liquor

Subscribe to Weird India Subscribe to Weird India in MY YAHOO! Subscribe to Weird India in MY GOOGLE! Subscribe to Weird India in MY MSN! Subscribe to Weird India in MY AOL! Subscribe to Weird India in Rojo!
A human being can drink a limited amount of Liquor / Wine in a day but what would you call of a Stone Idol of Indian God, which drinks several & some times hundreds of bottles of liquor in a single day. You may find it amazing & weird, Yes it is amazing & weird but absolutely true. There is a temple of Shri Kaal Bhairav in Ujjain city in Madhya Pradesh State of India & its Deity is Shri Kaal Bhairav as shown here in the picture. This is one of the most active and happening temple in the Ujjain city. Daily, hundreds of people come over here with faith, reverence to offer Liquor to the God.

Interesting thing about the offering is that, when people offer Liquor to the God, he accepts the offer of Liquor lively. What happens is that the Temple Priest keeps the Dish Plate filled with liquor near the mouth of the Deity and the stone image of Deity starts sucking slowly the Liquor from the plate & slowly Liquor starts decreasing in the Plate and the Temple Priest takes back the plate only when all the Liquor is finished. It may sound unbelievable, but its true. It is seen with your own eyes and it does not happen once or twice, this happens everyday & many times in a day. The Deity sucks in hundreds of bottles in a day on festive seasons. No one knows where does this hundreds of bottles of liquor goes but it has been happening since ages, as this temple is hundreds of years old.

Actually Ujjain City is a Holy City & is thousands of year old & has many temples including the most revered Maha Kaal temple also. In this temple of Shri Kaal Bhairav in Ujjain city, worship of Bhairava Gods is done. The worship of the eight Bhairavas is a part of Shaivite tradition worship and the chief among them is Kaal Bhairava. This temple is believed to have been built by King Bhadresen in older times on the banks of the Shipra River. There is mention of a Kaal Bhairva temple in the Avanti Khanda of the Skanda Purana also, which is a text thousands of years old. Worship of Kaal Bhairava is believed to have been a part of the Kapalika and Aghora sects in Indian practiced religion. City of Ujjain has been a prominent centre of these two cults/sects. Beautiful paintings in the Malwa style of Indian Tradition once decorated the temple walls, some traces of which are visible still today in the Temple.

As all this is true, what you would say to this type of Miracle of drinking Liquor / Wine. May be God wants to show his presence in the world where Tipplers are on the rise & to have faith in God among all those people who are very very fond of Liquor / Wine / Rum / Beer / Vodka / Gin etc. etc.

Holy Cow - 'Beef Eating, A Great Sin Among Hindus'

Subscribe to Weird India Subscribe to Weird India in MY YAHOO! Subscribe to Weird India in MY GOOGLE! Subscribe to Weird India in MY MSN! Subscribe to Weird India in MY AOL! Subscribe to Weird India in Rojo!
In Western Countries & other Modern Societies of the world, beef eating is very common & it is very much part of their routine diet & no Holiness is associated with the Cow per say with them. Fast foods like burgers, meat sausages etc. all contain beef & You cannot imagine McDonalds, Burger King, Wendy's, Pizza Hut, Wimpy's etc. doing Business in Western Countries & other Modern Societies without Beef.

But Just think of selling Beef among Hindus in India & you are about to start communal riots in India. Reason being, for Hindus in India, Cow is a Holy animal & it is revered as your own mother only. What to talk of eating beef, even hurting the animal is against the Hindu religion. In Hindu religion it is generally believed that all the Hindu Gods reside in the Holy Cow & it is compared to your own mother & is given the same respect as is given to your own mother.

In Hindu mythological books, all the Gods are somehow found relating to the Cow, whether it is Brahma, Vishnu or Mahesh, the trinity considered as the prime Gods among Hindu religion. Lord Krishna the incarnation of Vishnu & is always shown with cows & in fact he was born among the cowherd family only is always shown among the cows. So any disrespect to cows among Hindus is a disrespect to Lord Vishnu / Lord Krishna. Killing a Cow is considered as a great Sin & eating the Cow is also considered as a great Sin. As per Hindu scriptures there are stories that after killing a cow a Rishi / Saint had to go to the hell & after doing lot of penance only, the said Rishi / Saint was able to get rid of the Sin incurred by killing the cow.

So for this reason every Hindu considers Cow as a Holy animal & cannot even think of killing the cow or eating beef. Otherwise also , at the first look only, Cow is seen as the most sober & harmless animal & we should not kill her.

Now you can understand why McDonalds, Pizza Hut, Wimpy's etc. cannot even think of selling Beef in India.

Ghost Soldier on Duty in Indian Army

Subscribe to Weird India Subscribe to Weird India in MY YAHOO! Subscribe to Weird India in MY GOOGLE! Subscribe to Weird India in MY MSN! Subscribe to Weird India in MY AOL! Subscribe to Weird India in Rojo!

We have all seen Smart , young people of their country doing duty in their country's Army. But have anyone seen a Ghost doing duty in the Army of any country.......Yes it happens & happens only in India. Yes, in Indian Army the Ghost of "Baba" Harbhajan Singh who died during the 1962 China - India War still does his duty on Nathula Pass in eastern Sikkim, India. The story goes like this......

"Baba" Harbhajan Singh was a soldier in the Indian Army & worked in the Dogra Regiment during 1962 China-India War. This soldier died near the Nathula Pass in eastern Sikkim - India while on duty. Mr. Harbhajan Singh got drowned in a glacier during the 1962 China-India War. He was searched for everywhere & he was found three days later and was cremated with full military honours. Legend goes like this that Harbhajan Singh led the Search Party to his body, and later, through a dream, instructed one of his colleagues to build and maintain a Temple/Shrine after him. A shrine was built at his Samadhi in the hills. Army folklore holds Baba is a stickler for discipline and is known to admonish those who do not tow this line.

In the camp at Nathula Pass, a camp bed is kept for him and his boots are polished and uniform is kept ready every night. The sheets are reportedly crumpled every morning and boots muddy by evening. The Ghost soldier continues to draw a salary and takes his annual leave also. Legend also has it that in the event of a war between India and China, Baba would warn the Indian and Chinese soldiers three days in advance.

Chinese do also worship him & during the flag meetings between the two nations at Nathula Post, the Chinese Soldiers have also set a chair aside for the saint. Every year on September 14, a jeep departs with his personal belongings to the nearest railway station, New Jalpaiguri, where it is then sent by train to the village of Kuka, his hometown in Kapurthala district in Punjab.
A small sum is also sent to the mother of this Ghost Soldier each month. Ghost Soldier's name still continues in the army's payrolls, his mother has still been getting his salary cheques and he has also been given all due time bound promotions. Though it may look weird but it is true & Indian Army still honours this soldier like that.

After post death promotions, late soldier is treated as honorary captain. Ghost Soldier gets two months annual leave every year & a First Class berth is booked in the train in his name and his portrait, uniform and other belongings are brought by army officials to his native village Kuka in Kapurthala district for availing of his leave.

This year also under this annual drill, belongings of "Baba" Harbhajan Singh were brought to Jalandhar from New Jalpaigudi by Dibrugarh Express on Thursday night.
A JCO, a Subedar and an Orderly accompanied the belongings. The family of the late soldier received the belongings at the railway station and later proceeded for their native village. On completion of the leave the same team of the army personnel will escort back the belongings to the Nathu La region.

Now what you call of this weird but true story happening in Indian Army. Interestingly, one of his old colleague Mr. Pyara Singh of Jallandhar District of Punjab has put a Court Case against Indian Army & Ministry of Defense for allowing such weird Dead worship of a person who was dead long long ago.

Crossing the small river, hanging on wire to Go to the School??????

What should Children do if a small river comes in their way on going to school. Simply, either go through the Bridge on the river or take a boat to cross the river. But what if there is no Bridge or Boat to cross the river??????? Yes in Narela Hanumant Village in Bhopal in Madhya Pradesh State of India, that is the case. There children going to their school have to cross a small river but for these helpless children, there is no Bridge or Boat available to go to the school. So what is the way out. To solve the problem Villagers over here have actually tied two metal wires/ropes across the river. On one metal wire/rope, children walk while holding the other metal wire/rope which hangs at one meter above the bottom one. This way, walking slowly on the rope while holding the above rope, they cross the river & go to the school.

There is every chance that a child looses balance while walking on the rope & falls into the river but administration is keeping blind eye on the whole matter & is putting the lives of such children at risk. It is high time that local administration makes some Bridge over the river or provides some peddle boats to the villagers.
