Why Indians believe in Rebirth / Reincarnation?
In a population of more than one billion in India, almost every second person can be found in India who believes in rebirth, reincarnation etc. Have you ever wondered why such a big population on earth believes in rebirth/ reincarnation? Main reason for it is Hindu Spiritualism & also the actual instances of rebirth that press & TV news channels etc. are able to expose.As per earlier posts "Is 'Kalpana Chawla' Reborn in India?", a 4 yr old from India claimed that she was the reincarnation of Kalpana Chawla. Then as per the post "Is American Scientist Reborn as 'Rajesh' in India?", there was the case of Rajesh from Saharanpur in Uttar Pradesh state of India who was believed to be the rebirth of an American Scientist.
Here is another case from Bhopal in India where Dr Swarnlata Tiwari, principal of a Government Arts & Commerce College from Bhopal, popularly known as Naveen College, is a unique case of rebirth. Her case is one of the seven cases in the world over, which scientists have been doing research on the theory of human rebirth. Dr. Swarnlata's case is a unique case in the sense that she not only remembers her immediate previous birth but also of the previous to previous birth.
In an interview Dr. Swarnlata Tiwari narrated interesting events and memories of her three births. The first at Katni in Madhya Pradesh when she was born in a Pathak family, the second in a Goswami family of Silhat (Assam) which is presently in Pakistan. And now presently she was born in village Shahpur of Tikamgarh district.
Wife of an IAS officer, Dr. Tiwari, 59 at present, has two sons. She has been leading a happily peaceful life with her present family at the same time keeping touch with her previous birth relatives of Katni.
She said past memories flashed back to her when she was passing through a river near Katni at the age of about 4 years. She narrated her past life's incidents to her parents who did not believe all that and ultimately saw a doctor of her mental check up. It was here that the doctor declared her fit saying "she is recalling her previous birth memories."
At the height of all that she was again re-born when she suddenly started singing Assamese songs at the age of 5. This was her previous to the immediate birth. In this life she had died in a road accident in Silhat at the age of 8.
When her case flashed in newspapers, her previous birth brother came to her house whom she immediately recognized as "Babu". He confirmed that she was his sister as she narrated such incidents, which only he and she knew. In that birth her husband was a Tehsildar from whom she had three children. She had then died of heart failure at the age of 39.
Her story may seem interesting and amazing to listeners but not to her as she is now used to it and feels quite "normal".
Strange Facts about Dr. Swarnlata
1. Born on March 2, 1948
2. She scared her parents by claiming that her name was Biya Pathak and lived in katni in past.
3. Biya Pathak died in 1939
4. was reborn as Kamlesh in 1940 at Sylhet in Assam and died in 1947, a very short life.
5. Then, in 1948, Kamlesh was reborn as Swarnlata Mishra at village Shahpur in Tikamgarh district of Madhya Pradesh.
6. Remembers all the three births and that every time she was born as a girl child and in all the births in a Brahmin family.
7. Her story of rebirth was investigated by a noted Virginia University Professor Dr. Ian Stevenson when he visited India in 1997 and he found her case as "authentically correct" after intensive confirmation of tales told by Swarnlata.
8. At present she lives at Bhopal. Her husband K.P.Tiwari is a senior IAS officer here and she herself is a botanist and presently posted at Bhopal as the Principal of a Government Arts and Commerce College.
9. She has two sons.
Then here is another case of Taranjit, aged 12 from Chandigarh city from northern India who remembered his past life at the age of 2 & claimed that in his earlier birth he was Satnam & died in a scooter accident. He not only identified & met his earlier life parents but recently went to the marriage of his earlier life sister too & blessed her on her marriage. As per the facts presented by him, his is also a true case of rebirth/ reincarnation.
Now the big question is why it happens & why millions of Hindus in India believe in reincarnation? The main reason is their belief in their scriptures which clearly say that after death, a person's soul travels from one body to another & soul in their body is immortal & it does not die EVER.
Now what is immortality? As per Indian scripture 'Bhagwat Gita',this soul of ours wears this body made of nature elements. After karmic cycle, depending on the Karmas of our previous life, soul drops this body at death & takes on another body based on the Karmas of our present life. Again we do Karmas in our next birth & that becomes the basis of our further next birth for this soul. So this cycle of wearing different bodies goes on for this soul.

In Bhagavad-Gita Lord SriKrishna says to Arjuna:
“I taught this immortal Yoga to Vivasvan (sun-god), Vivasvan conveyed it to Manu(his son), and Manu imparted it to (his son) Iksvaku. Thus transmitted to succession from father to son, Arjuna, this Yoga remained known to the Rajarisis (royal sages). It has however long since disappeared from this earth. The same ancient Yoga has this day been imparted to you by Me, because you are My devotee and friend, and also because this is a supreme secret”.
At this Arjuna said: You are of recent origin while the birth of Vivasvan dates back to remote antiquity. How, then, I am to believe that you taught this Yoga at the beginning of creation? Lord SriKrishna said: Arjuna, you and I have passed through many births. I remember them all, you do not remember.

An article on Logic of Reincarnation by Steven J Rosen was published in The Speaking Tree of 11the July 2010. In this article the author raised certain queries, what is it that reincarnates from one body to another? Is it the soul? the mind? the intellect? To understand this we should suggest answer to these questions. We all know that there are four fundamental forces in the universe viz., gravitation force, electromagnetic force, weak nuclear force and strong nuclear force. I have written a paper entitled ‘Gravitation Force is the Ultimate Creator’ and presented it at the 1st International Conference on Revival of Traditional Yoga held in Lonavla Yoga Institute, Lonavla in January 2006. In this paper I have defined soul (individual consciousness), mind and body. According to this every point of action of Gravitational Force Field is individual consciousness or soul, electromagnetic force as the force of mind and weak and strong nuclear force as the gross material force which constitute physical frame of body.
Consciousness is All Intelligent and pervades everywhere. Although all other remaining three forces are also intelligent but they are subordinate to Gravitational Force. THIS DESCRIPTION WILL HELP TO UNDERSTAND ‘WHAT IS IT THAT REINCARNATES FROM ONE BODY TO ANOTHER.
According to Buddhism this is not the supreme atman or soul that ties one life to another, instead it talks about past lives as evolvement of consciousness, emergence of a new personality from the same stream of consciousness.
Unaccomplished activities of past lives are also one of the causes for reincarnation. Some of us reincarnate to complete the unfinished tasks of previous birth. The is evident from my own story of reincarnation:

I am one the chief expounder and supporter of Gravitation Force Theory of God. This is most scientific and secular theory of God. I have also discovered the mathematical expression for emotional quotient and for spiritual quotient.
Austrian Scientist Rudolf Steiner says,
"Just as an age was once ready to receive the Copernican theory of the universe, so is our age ready for the idea of reincarnation to be brought into the general consciousness of humanity".
Its not Naveen College.Its Nutan College.Though there is no reason why it should be called so except that one of its outer walls has a huge artwork by Ramesh Nutan.
As indians beleive on rebirth there should not be any scientific reason behind it,because their facts of life came straight from generation.

Rebirth / Reincarnation is not new in India. Our Veda consists of lot of examples of the same. I believe that Godess Paarvati who was Godess Sati in her earlier state was the first case of rebirth. Thanks for great topic
The soul drops the present body after death and takes another body. So at any time there has to be a ratio at which the souls of 6 realm exists.
Now the population in year 1800 below 2bn has grown to 10bn. Where this human souls spawned from. Those souls from other realms has done good deeds now to be born as humans? I dont think so. We are in the worst yuga filled with all evil things by humans.So most of us has to be born in the lower 3 ralm according to Buddhist or Hindu teachings

I strongly believe in rebirth, because when I was at the age of 5 I started speaking some names, later my parents are discovered these names are the places belongs to Srilanka. I was born in a rural area of kerala especially in a poor family, My parents never moved to any near cities in their life.
First they thought it is just a childish act by me but later they realize something weird is there. As from a poor family I was not able to reach my past. now 32 years old family man
