Chewing Cloth - Her Staple Diet

How would you feel if you wash your clothes in the morning, put it in the open for drying & in the evening these clothes just disappear. You might think that some body has stolen it or has been taken away by some monkey etc. But what if your neighbor takes it & eat it away as her daily diet!!!!! Yes exactly that is happening in a tiny village, Aralikere,10 km from Turuvekere in Karnataka State of India. It may seem weird, but it is true. over here in the houses at Aralikere You won't find a single cloth drying outside the houses as one of their known neighbour is taking it away so that she can chew these clothes as part of her daily diet!

Here is a 35-year-old woman called Bangari who walks out early in the morning looking for "food" hanging in the neighbour's houses. And she is particular also about what she eats. She relishes only cotton clothes.

Bangari does not have any problem with her digestion too. As per her mother Shivamma, her daughter Bangari developed this rather unusual habit right from early age. As Bangari grew, she found it difficult to outgrow her habit of eating clothes.

As the family members were not able to wean her from this cloth-eating diet, the family members started stocking her favorite food in a bag so that she could eat, whenever, she felt hungry instead of stealing from the neighbours. However, when the "food stock" at home gets over, she goes around the neighbourhood in search of food.

In that village there is no house which has not lost a cloth & interestingly villagers don't complain but take care of their clothes from Bangari. So dear friends if you have some spare unused cotton clothes, pl. ship it to Bangari.
