India: 7 000 girls killed daily

As per one Unicef report released on Tuesday, India is losing about 7 000 girls daily because of the traditional preference for sons, which causes many people to abort female foetuses.

She is their 'Nirasha' (disappointment)

In India "Aasha" is a very common name for females. In Hindi language meaning of "Aasha" is "Hope". There is just another word in Hindi language which is “Nirasha”, which is just the opposite of the word "Aasha" & its dictionary meaning is "Disappointment". Now can you ever imagine that any parent shall give her daughter the name “Nirasha”!!!!!!!!!!! But here is a real case from India where a family gave their Girl Child, the name “Nirasha”. "Is a name a moment’s inspiration or a much-thought after affair? Well, the Delhi High Court recommends the second course of action. Hearing the case of a missing 13-year-old girl, a senior judge on the Bench was “shocked” on hearing the girl’s name—“Nirasha” (disappointment). The judge went on to express his reservations about her parents’ choice and was keen to know the reason behind it. As expected, the lawyer for the parents had an answer ready: “My Lord, she was their fifth daughter.”

Isn't it strange that in India where people worship Goddess Luxmi, Durga, Kali, Saraswati etc. there is yet someone who names their Girl child “Nirasha” (disappointment).
