No Holi for superstitious villagers

RAIGARH - They haven’t played Holi for over a century and blame an age old rumour. Dozens of families of seven villages in Chhattisgarh’s Raigarh district stayed away from Holi celebrations Monday, fearing that tigers would attack them if they defied the no-Holi tradition.

About 2,200 men and women of Hattapali, Mauhapali, Pardhiapali, Amlipali, Manjurpali, Chhinpatera and Jagdishpur villages were eager to celebrate the festival of colour but bowed to superstition that tigers would kill residents if they went against the self-imposed ban. Superstitious doctors kill younger son to make elder 'smarter'

Here is another bizarre incident where blind faith and superstition won over science and logic & cost a 12-year-old boy his life.

The boy was killed by his own parents, Ashok and Pramila Malik - both of them doctors in Rohtak city in Haryana state of India - all because a tantrik (quack) told Pramila that she needs to transfuse the boy's blood into the body of his older brother to help him pass his medical exams.
