Is the new Jammu and Kashmir legislative complex here haunted by evil spirits that have prompted the resignation of two chief ministers and ugly scenes? Sounds naive, but that is exactly what assembly officials and even some legislators who quietly conducted an elaborate religious ritual to exorcise the spirits believe.Read More................Haunted house - exorcising 'evil spirits' from Kashmir assembly

Fear Factor in Devotees mind make them Offerings in a Shrine

Subscribe to Weird India Subscribe to Weird India in MY YAHOO! Subscribe to Weird India in MY GOOGLE! Subscribe to Weird India in MY MSN! Subscribe to Weird India in MY AOL! Subscribe to Weird India in Rojo!
If you are using Internet & Email for quite some time then you must have received so many Chain Mails in your life time. Many of these Chain Mails might have invoked you to make some wishes before forwarding those "Ganesh Vandana", "Tirupathi Balaji" pics etc...etc. & at the end of that chain mail here below notice might have been there...........

IMPORTANT NOTE:

If you do not send this e-mail to at least 12 people in the next 10 seconds............... guess what could happen?? & due to fear in your mind due to that warning, you might have forwarded that email to exactly 12 of your friends & so have done your friends too in turn & hence due to that fear factor in your mind that Chain Mail might have traveled across the Globe many times.

O.K. that is Internet & all together a different domain than one's real life. But what if something similar happens in real life. Yes exactly that happened in Kashmir Valley in India when hundreds of couples offered rice and money at a shrine here following rumors that a Sufi saint had asked all couples with a lone son to donate generously.

The story spread across the Kashmir Valley was that Ahad Sahib, a popular Sufi saint from north Kashmir's Sopore town, had a dream and asked all parents who had a lone son to offer rice and money at the shrine of Sheikh Abdul Qadir Jeelani, known as Dastgeer Sahib, situated in Khanyar locality of Srinagar city.

To add to it, the rumor also had it that unless the offerings were made immediately, the couple would soon come to grief.

Hundreds of of people took the warning seriously, thronging the shrine with offerings of rice and money. The devotees who landed up Dastgeer Sahib included educated Kashmiris as well as peasants from the countryside.

'It's alright even if it was a rumor. There is no harm in making the offering,' said Sheikh Bilal, an agricultural scientist who had come from Ganderbal district to make an offering at the shrine.

The shrine management engaged additional staff to cope with the rush of devotees.

'I heard the news in the afternoon. I hired a taxi as my wife was keen to make the offering today itself,' said Abdul Salam Wani, 56, who came all the way from Kokernag town in south Kashmir's Anantnag district.

Though by evening there were reports that the saint denied asking people to make offerings, the crowd at the shrine continued to swell. At the day's end, the shrine had received hundreds of quintals of rice and millions of rupees.

'Faith doesn't allow any chances to be taken. It hardly matters now whether the news was a fact or a rumor. I have made the offerings,' said Manzoor Ahmad Gora, another agricultural scientist here.

Suicide is 'Un-Islamic'

It seems Muslim religious leaders / Muslim clerics in India are in the habit of issuing edicts which may seem at time ridiculous. Take the case of this Edict / Fatwa which terms the Suicide as 'Un-Islamic'!!!! In the Kashmir Valley in Indian state of India, in the wake of a spurt in suicides, a top Muslim cleric in the state termed suicide as "un-Islamic" and sought awareness among people to "curb the menace."

"It (suicide) is haram (forbidden) in Islam. Islam has strictly prohibited such a step," the state's grand mufti Bashir-ud-Din said in a fatwa.

The mufti took serious note of the cases of suicides, 116 since last year, and urged Muslim clerics to create awareness to curb this menace during their Friday sermons.
The decree came as the apex court of Islamic 'Shariat' (Dar-ul-Fatwa), headed by the mufti, felt that there has been a sharp increase in suicides in the Kashmir Valley with mostly younger persons, including women, taking the extreme step.

According to official figures, 116 people have committed suicide since 2006 in the Kashmir Valley, including 55 this year.

Out of 61 people who committed suicide last year, 43 were young and middle-aged women. This year too, of the 42 cases, 25 were women.

'No responsibility for explosion,' parking ticket says

Subscribe to Weird India Subscribe to Weird India in MY YAHOO! Subscribe to Weird India in MY GOOGLE! Subscribe to Weird India in MY MSN! Subscribe to Weird India in MY AOL! Subscribe to Weird India in Rojo!

In Kashmir state of India where violence is quite routine affair due to terrorists activity in the valley , parking lots are also not taking any responsibility for the explosions & ticket of the parking place says 'no responsibility for explosions'.

Due to terrorists activity, daily earnings of houseboat owners at Dal Lake have dipped due to low tourist arrivals in the Kashmir Valley this season.

There has been an alarming 40 percent drop in tourist arrivals this year, which could hit the state's economy - as well as its 110 million population, many of whom depend on tourism, handicrafts and handlooms for survival.

The main reason for the drop in tourism, of course, is concern about safety. Apart from the possibility of terrorist strikes, the fact remains that people on a holiday do not like the sight of gun-toting security men everywhere.

The city comes to a near-standstill after dusk and visitors are not encouraged to step out of their hotels.

Its high time that the state government considers deleting this line from the parking tickets for the Mughal Gardens in Kashmir Valley: 'No responsibility for explosions.'

Kashmir is the troubled state of India where police normally is fighting with the militants. But nowadays they are doing a different job too. Yes, police in Kashmir state of India is keeping a vigil at teenagers canoodling in parks, restaurants and at Internet cafes.

The crackdown aims to curb “immoral activities”, a senior police officer said yesterday, adding that dozens of places had been raided across Srinagar, the main city of the region, and at least 10 couples detained over the last three days.

Restaurant and Internet cafe owners had also been asked to get rid of cabins and cubicles as they were being “misused” by teenagers in the Muslim-majority region, he said. “We received a number of complaints from parents that their children, mostly teenagers, would stray into cyber cafes and restaurants instead of schools and colleges,” Parvez Ahmad said.

A fall in violence has allowed a marginal easing of security restrictions and freer movement of people in Srinagar, leading to youngsters getting bolder in what is a traditional Islamic society, they say.

In Kashmir state of India a former Kashmiri rebel was wounded when a tiny detonator planted in a cigarette by suspected militants exploded when he lit it up in a police station, a newspaper report said today.

The small blast, the first of its kind in the revolt-torn Himalayan region, took place in a remote village of Doda district where Mohammad Rafiq had surrendered to police, the Daily Excelsior said.

Separatist militants fighting Indian rule in the disputed region since 1989 frequently target their former colleagues who surrender to the police or the army.

"The small detonator, planted inside the cigarette, exploded when Rafiq was smoking, causing him minor injuries. He has been hospitalized," the newspaper quoted a senior police officer as saying.

He said police were investigating how a cigarette with a detonator hidden inside reached Rafiq in the police station.

Quranic verses on wood from willow tree

Subscribe to Weird India Subscribe to Weird India in MY YAHOO! Subscribe to Weird India in MY GOOGLE! Subscribe to Weird India in MY MSN! Subscribe to Weird India in MY AOL! Subscribe to Weird India in Rojo!
Quran is the holiest book of Muslims & its verses are equally holy.

A miracle occurred when woodcutters began felling a tree inside the compound of a Sufi shrine in Jammu and Kashmir state of India. They were surprised to find 'impressions of Quranic verses' on the wood. It was divine intervention against cutting of trees!

Or so many Kashmiris are beginning to believe after visiting Sufi saint Syed Shah Farid-ud-Din's shrine in Achu Gudool village in Kokernag, 72 km from here.

Hundreds of people are flocking to the south Kashmir site where the saint, originally from the Kishtwar sub-district of the Jammu region, is buried.

Besides the Quranic verses, the pieces of wood from the age-old willow tree felled were also said to carry impressions of a skull cap, a lamp and a prayer mat.

Last week the managing committee of the Sufi shrine decided to fell some willow trees inside the shrine compound. But when woodcutters felled the first willow, they were stunned by what appeared inside.

'As the woodcutter chopped the wood into four pieces he was stunned. On one piece of wood were written verses of the holy Quran. On the second piece there was the impression of a prayer mat used by devout Muslims to offer the namaz,' said Muhammad Amin, the contractor entrusted with the duty of felling the trees.

'The third piece bore the impressions of a skull cap worn at the time of the namaz and the fourth piece bore the impressions of an oil lamp which visitors light at the shrine.'

Immediately after the discovery of the miracle impressions, the shrine committee members stopped the tree felling work.

As penance for ordering the tree felling, they removed the pieces of the felled willow tree to a compound in the shrine. And visitors have been thronging to see the miracle impressions.

'Hundreds of believers are now visiting the shrine daily to see for themselves the miracle impressions. It is clearly a message for all of us. The saint does not approve of any tree felling,' said Ali Muhammad, 49, a resident of the village.

Kashmir has seen the indiscriminate felling of trees in the last two decades.

Subscribe to Weird India Subscribe to Weird India in MY YAHOO! Subscribe to Weird India in MY GOOGLE! Subscribe to Weird India in MY MSN! Subscribe to Weird India in MY AOL! Subscribe to Weird India in Rojo!

Just imagine, if you come to know that someone is ready to pay you Indian Rupees 3 million (about $68,000), if you catch an Owl & give it to him!!! You may think, either that person is bluffing or if you believe in it, you may try at least once. But there is a condition by the prospective buyer that the Owl should weigh nothing less than three kilograms & Owl is to be caught alive and sold unharmed!!!!

Interesting, this dream has been sold to the people in the northern parts of Jammu and Kashmir in India by a mysterious man. That prospective buyer had given the villagers a mobile phone number to establish contact with him. So seeing the lure of big money, villagers of Arhama, Chattergul & nearby villages over there are going out at night in sub-zero temperatures to catch their precious Owl. Now the problem is that, though villagers have caught a few owls but unfortunately none of them weighed more than 800 grams & people are still trying for a big one.

Beating sub-zero temperatures, many Kashmiris can be seen going out at night, looking for a right-sized owl that may fetch them a fortune. Interestingly, still no one knows who the dream merchant is, who is selling these weird dreams but search is on to catch a right sized Owl.......Read more.......Kashmiris chase owls - and millionaire dreams
