Woman sarpanch kills niece to 'rid her of evil spirits'

MOGA: In a country where superstition still prevails, greater democratization does not always seem to do good. A duly elected woman sarpanch (village leader) killed a teenage girl, who happened to be her niece, in an attempt to "rid her of evil spirits".

Pal Kaur, the sarpanch in Moga district of Punjab killed the girl by mercilessly beating her up with a pair of red hot 'chimta' (tongs).
