Ash-smeared and naked Hindu saints led millions of devotees on Wednesday in a pre-dawn holy dip at the meeting of three major rivers in Allahabad in Uttar Pradesh state of India. In near-freezing temperatures, millions of Hindus washed away their sins in the icy waters of the Ganges river at Allahabad in northern India.

Up to 70 million people from India and around the world are expected to wash away their sins in the Ganges at the Ardh Kumbh Mela or Half Pitcher Festival over there. This 42-day long bathing festival is very sacred to Hindus in India as Hindus believe that during this time, bathing in Ganges river shall wipe out all their sins.
