Former Indian Coal Minister Gets Life Imprisonment

Today a court in New - Delhi, India has sentenced Shibu Soren to life imprisonment, who was few days ago, India's coal minister in Central Government ruling from New Delhi. He is convicted for his role in the abduction and murder of his private secretary, Shashi Nath Jha. His secretary was abducted from New - Delhi in 1994 and his body remains were found in Ranchi at that time. Jha was at that time knowing about the bribe received by Shibu Soren for supporting a confidence vote to save the Narasimha Rao Government at the centre at that time and was blackmailing him to get his share of money.

The court has also imposed a fine of Rs 5 lakh (11,00 US$) on Shibu Soren. He is the key leader of Jhakhand Mukthi Morcha (JMM). Interestingly he was the key leader of JMM which was supporting the same Government, who is negotiating the Nuclear Energy deal with the USA & that deal is taken very seriously by the Bush Government & is doing all efforts to get it through.

As it is Coalition Government ( Many factions from different Indian states supporting the Main Congress Party) ruling from New Delhi, it seems Congress Party, to stay in power had to take support of all such factions to stay in power i.e. to prove their majority in the parliament. But that clearly signify that how all such elements after committing such heinous crimes can get powerful positions in Central Government, unless they are proved of such charges, which has happened today in Shibu Soren's case.
