Auctioning of Democratic Posts in Tamil Nadu
India is the Biggest Democracy in the world & what if a small village community in it makes mockery of Indian Democracy. As per the NDTV report - Democracy on sale in Tamil Nadu, a small village Kodikulam near Madurai in Tamil Nadu - India has put Indian democracy to shame. As per the report, local panchayat positions ( Village administrative posts) have allegedly been auctioned to the highest bidder.A local farmer candidate in this small village has offered more than Two Lakh Indian Rupees (Around US$ 4350) for getting elected to a Councilor post!!!!!!!! The main purpose of getting elected to any such posts is to make money by such people, once they are on such posts.
If this trend is not stopped, then days are not far off, when Ministerial posts can also get Auctioned to the highest bidder. Earlier also, similar auctions in other parts of the state have happened & this trend needs to be stopped immediately by the State Government, otherwise Indian Democracy shall be vulnerable to all such people whose sole purpose is to come to power by hook or crook & then to amass wealth through such positions.
