IAS officer with 220 bank accounts, assets worth millions

An Indian Administrative Officer (IAS) in Chhattisgarh has been found to have a staggering 220 bank accounts and assets worth millions of rupees.

This was revealed after the income tax department raided his residence here, official sources said.

The IT department raided the houses of some IAS officers and businessmen in Chhattisgarh and Madhya Pradesh in the past two days. Chhattisgarh's Bharatiya Janata Party government is waiting for a final report from the IT department about Agriculture Secretary B.L. Agrawal's assets to initiate action against him. Man deserts wife for giving birth to daughter

Raipur: A man deserted his wife in Chhattisgarh when she gave birth to a girl despite having undergone a tubectomy in order not to have any more children, an official said Saturday.

Twenty eight-year-old Sona Kashyap was thrown out of the house by her husband Deepak early this month after she delivered a girl despite having undergone an operation Dec 5 last year at a government health camp.

Elephants run berserk & people desert homes

About 800 tribal people of a remote area of Koriya district in Chhattisgarh have temporarily deserted their village as a herd of elephants has destroyed their houses and crops, forest officials said Wednesday.

'A herd of wild elephants, which strayed into the region a week ago has been causing panic among the people, mainly in Salwa village, and they ran amok, destroying crops and a number of houses,' as per one local forest official.
