Women to burn jeans, tops

LUCKNOW: A group of women from three villages in western UP's Muzaffarnagar would burn jeans and tops at an all-women mahapanchayat on Sunday to express solidarity with a khap diktat imposing restrictions on them.

Last week, a panchayat in Aasara village of Baghpat prohibited women below 40 years of age using cellphones or going to the market without a male member of the family, triggering a debate on the very existence of such self-styled courts in the country.
