Recently 147 people died in temple stampede in Jodhpur in Rajasthan state of India. Incident happened at Chamunda Devi temple in Jodhpur’s Mehrangarh Fort for a darshan of the goddess.

In fact it is such a Religious madness in India that in 2008, stampedes have killed 360 while, blasts have killed 156 people.

In fact in India, religious and cultural pilgrimages where gatherings running into lakhs of people on days of special religious or spiritual significance are a regular feature. Large congregations are institutionalised in Hinduism — like the ageless tradition of Kumbha Melas. Apart from the Kumbha Melas, there are major temples like Tirupati and Guruvayoor in the south, Vaishno Devi in the north and Kamakhya in the northeast, as also lesser known ones like Naina Devi in Himachal Pradesh and Chamunda Devi in Mehrangarh Fort in Jodhpur, Rajasthan.

My view is that God resides in everyone's own heart. If a person wants to worship the God then he/she can do worship while sitting in his/her home & silently praying within oneself only.
