Police to crack down on expensive wedding celebrations

It's only in totalitarian regimes that one's individual freedom is controlled by the state but in India where there is democracy, these type of controls are not expected. Take this case where Indian courts want to regulate the spending on wedding celebrations.

" But Punjab could soon see the last of its lavish weddings. The Punjab and Haryana High Court has asked the Punjab Police to crack down on expensive wedding celebrations. "

It’s the big fat Punjabi wedding, always costing in lakhs and very often now, in crores.

It's been big, it's been loud and it's always been lavish and it’s the ultimate sign of Punjabiyat. The attire is designer, the food is gourmet and every gift exchanged is exorbitant.

Now it's the state which shall tell individuals how they should spend on the marriage of their son or daughter. How Weird??????
