150-metre-high Hill vanishes in India

Till now you might have seen buildings getting razed by explosives but what would you call to an event if a 150-metre-high Hill vanishes from your eyes in no time. Yes, villagers of Tainani in Tripura state of India stood stunned and terrified as the mighty hill that stood solid for ages, disappeared in front of their eyes without any apparent rhyme or reason.

There was no earthquake, not even a mild tremor that the villagers could feel. But the hill vanished all the same, as if sucked into a mighty pit in the earth's womb, slowly taking down with it the trees and bushes that stood upon it.

The mystery unfolded on July 21. The day began with an intermittent drizzle, with the heavy cloud-cover often yielding glimpses of the pale blue sky. For the Tainani villagers, this hide and seek of rain and sunlight was nothing unusual. They carried on with their daily routine till the unthinkable happened at around 11 am.

But on Saturday, the calm was broken by a deep-throated gurgling sound that came from below. "At first, we did not give it much importance and carried on with jhum cultivation in the adjacent hills. The noise became louder with every passing moment and after about 30 minutes, with a big boom, the hill started steadily going down," says Kalijay Reang, who saw the hill going down.

Indian Quacks

Subscribe to Weird India Subscribe to Weird India in MY YAHOO! Subscribe to Weird India in MY GOOGLE! Subscribe to Weird India in MY MSN! Subscribe to Weird India in MY AOL! Subscribe to Weird India in Rojo!

In India Quacks ( fake doctors ) can be seen in any city but here is one who has weird ways of treating his patients. He operates his patients with sword and needle.

In this case a patient suffering from appendicitis chooses to go to a 'surgeon' who is actually a baba / quack.

And believe it or not, this surgeon uses swords to operate upon people, patches them up with adhesive bandages and then gives them blood as medicine and his temporary operation theatre - a temple in Bihar's Vaishali district.

"I have operated with sword and needle. People believe me and that's what matters," says the 'doctor' who goes by the name of Shankar Baba.

Those who undergo surgery are later made to drink the baba's blood to recover fast. The man claims to possess a cure for diseases other than appendicitis too.

His treatment methods include jumping on the stomach and neck of patients, who could be as young as six years old and he charges his patients anything between Indian Rs 51(US$ 1.25) and Rs 500( US$ 12.5) depending on the 'treatment'.

Astrologers see tough times for India

Subscribe to Weird India Subscribe to Weird India in MY YAHOO! Subscribe to Weird India in MY GOOGLE! Subscribe to Weird India in MY MSN! Subscribe to Weird India in MY AOL! Subscribe to Weird India in Rojo!
These days astrologers too have found a place, to be in the news, Thanks, courtesy media......Earlier astrologers used to predict the future of a person but now with the calculation of the movements of Mars, Saturn, etc. astrologers are able to predict the future of a Nation!!!!!!!!!! Now what holds for India August 5 onwards?????? As per these astrologers there is a gloomy picture ahead of time.

Some astrologers claim that after August 5, India might be headed for a troubled period that could last till the end of 2009. According to noted astrologer N P Seshadri, Saturn (shani) will move from sun sign Cancer (kadagarashi) to Leo (simrashi). Saturn's movement along with the influence of the Sun (they are inimical to each other) could spell potential disaster.

"There will be a lot of disturbance and chaos in the country. An important political leader might even be eliminated and the nation will see major accidents," intones Seshadri.

So Dear Indians, here is a good time to take Life Insurance, House Insurance, Home Gadgets Insurance etc. etc. & just check whether you have renewed your Car Insurance or not!!!!! Isn't it weird that astrologers predict all such things for a nation................

Rs.15.5 Lakhs for a VIP Mobile number

Subscribe to Weird India Subscribe to Weird India in MY YAHOO! Subscribe to Weird India in MY GOOGLE! Subscribe to Weird India in MY MSN! Subscribe to Weird India in MY AOL! Subscribe to Weird India in Rojo!
If India's economic liberalization is fruitful or not, here is an interesting story which shall make you believe that post economic liberalization Indians are indeed becoming rich. Take the case of this 26-year-old Amit Malhotra from Ludhiana city in Punjab state of India, son of a city garment manufacturer and property dealer, who spent a whopping Rs 15.50 lakhs (US$ 38,500) for the big-ticket mobile number 9780000000. It was just for a status symbol -- owning a VIP cell phone number like that!!!!

His father, Vijay Malhotra, was quoted as saying that this isn't something new for his son, and that he has always chosen VIP numbers as belongings. Just that this time round, he's blown up a huge amount of money on it...

All said, while a part of India that is seen as rich and fat might pride itself on this kind of obscenely ostentatious spending, what about the phone company -- in this case Hutch -- which actually conducted an auction of the VIP cell phone numbers?

Amit, who had previously applied for such a number; went through a phone auction that lasted from Tuesday morning through Wednesday evening, and haggled alongside 4 other eager customers to eventually seal the big win.

Rogue Elephants kill 8 in India

Two domesticated elephants went on a rampage through several villages in northeastern India, killing eight people and wounding five before being shot dead by police.

The rampage occurred in an area bordering India's Assam and Mizoram states.
The two elephants, a male and a female, ran through at least five villages in Assam, trampling anyone who got in their way and knocking down several of the mud-and-thatch houses before crossing into the neighboring state of Mizoram, where police were called in.

The incident started when the male was hit on the head by a falling log.
The remote region is home to some 5,000 wild Asiatic elephants, and conflicts between the elephants and humans have been on the rise due to constant encroachment on the animals' habitat.

Where moving around the hill gives an entry to Heaven!!!!

Subscribe to Weird India Subscribe to Weird India in MY YAHOO! Subscribe to Weird India in MY GOOGLE! Subscribe to Weird India in MY MSN! Subscribe to Weird India in MY AOL! Subscribe to Weird India in Rojo!
Religion makes happen things impossible. Religion makes you believe in anything. Take the case of this annual Hindu fair that happens every year at Goverdhan in Uttar Pradesh's Mathura district in India. More than 10 million pilgrims from all over India shall take part in it which started on July 25th. The fair shall peak on full moon day - July 29/30.

The weeklong Mudiya Poonau fair started with thousands of people joining the 21-km-long route around the Goverdhan hill, which, according to Hindu mythology, Lord Krishna had lifted with his little finger to protect people from torrential rains.

So wednesday onwards, Mathura, Vrindavan and other holy places associated with Lord Krishna will see hundreds of thousands of pilgrims converging until Janmashtami - the festival that celebrates Krishna's birth.

Many seem to believe that if the parikrama (moving around the hill) is not performed in the stipulated time they will be denied entry to heaven,' an official said.

Why Indians believe in Rebirth / Reincarnation?

Subscribe to Weird India Subscribe to Weird India in MY YAHOO! Subscribe to Weird India in MY GOOGLE! Subscribe to Weird India in MY MSN! Subscribe to Weird India in MY AOL! Subscribe to Weird India in Rojo!
In a population of more than one billion in India, almost every second person can be found in India who believes in rebirth, reincarnation etc. Have you ever wondered why such a big population on earth believes in rebirth/ reincarnation? Main reason for it is Hindu Spiritualism & also the actual instances of rebirth that press & TV news channels etc. are able to expose.

As per earlier posts "Is 'Kalpana Chawla' Reborn in India?", a 4 yr old from India claimed that she was the reincarnation of Kalpana Chawla. Then as per the post "Is American Scientist Reborn as 'Rajesh' in India?", there was the case of Rajesh from Saharanpur in Uttar Pradesh state of India who was believed to be the rebirth of an American Scientist.

Here is another case from Bhopal in India where Dr Swarnlata Tiwari, principal of a Government Arts & Commerce College from Bhopal, popularly known as Naveen College, is a unique case of rebirth. Her case is one of the seven cases in the world over, which scientists have been doing research on the theory of human rebirth. Dr. Swarnlata's case is a unique case in the sense that she not only remembers her immediate previous birth but also of the previous to previous birth.

In an interview Dr. Swarnlata Tiwari narrated interesting events and memories of her three births. The first at Katni in Madhya Pradesh when she was born in a Pathak family, the second in a Goswami family of Silhat (Assam) which is presently in Pakistan. And now presently she was born in village Shahpur of Tikamgarh district.

Wife of an IAS officer, Dr. Tiwari, 59 at present, has two sons. She has been leading a happily peaceful life with her present family at the same time keeping touch with her previous birth relatives of Katni.

She said past memories flashed back to her when she was passing through a river near Katni at the age of about 4 years. She narrated her past life's incidents to her parents who did not believe all that and ultimately saw a doctor of her mental check up. It was here that the doctor declared her fit saying "she is recalling her previous birth memories."

At the height of all that she was again re-born when she suddenly started singing Assamese songs at the age of 5. This was her previous to the immediate birth. In this life she had died in a road accident in Silhat at the age of 8.

When her case flashed in newspapers, her previous birth brother came to her house whom she immediately recognized as "Babu". He confirmed that she was his sister as she narrated such incidents, which only he and she knew. In that birth her husband was a Tehsildar from whom she had three children. She had then died of heart failure at the age of 39.

Her story may seem interesting and amazing to listeners but not to her as she is now used to it and feels quite "normal".

Strange Facts about Dr. Swarnlata

1. Born on March 2, 1948

2. She scared her parents by claiming that her name was Biya Pathak and lived in katni in past.

3. Biya Pathak died in 1939

4. was reborn as Kamlesh in 1940 at Sylhet in Assam and died in 1947, a very short life.

5. Then, in 1948, Kamlesh was reborn as Swarnlata Mishra at village Shahpur in Tikamgarh district of Madhya Pradesh.

6. Remembers all the three births and that every time she was born as a girl child and in all the births in a Brahmin family.

7. Her story of rebirth was investigated by a noted Virginia University Professor Dr. Ian Stevenson when he visited India in 1997 and he found her case as "authentically correct" after intensive confirmation of tales told by Swarnlata.

8. At present she lives at Bhopal. Her husband K.P.Tiwari is a senior IAS officer here and she herself is a botanist and presently posted at Bhopal as the Principal of a Government Arts and Commerce College.

9. She has two sons.

Then here is another case of Taranjit, aged 12 from Chandigarh city from northern India who remembered his past life at the age of 2 & claimed that in his earlier birth he was Satnam & died in a scooter accident. He not only identified & met his earlier life parents but recently went to the marriage of his earlier life sister too & blessed her on her marriage. As per the facts presented by him, his is also a true case of rebirth/ reincarnation.

Now the big question is why it happens & why millions of Hindus in India believe in reincarnation? The main reason is their belief in their scriptures which clearly say that after death, a person's soul travels from one body to another & soul in their body is immortal & it does not die EVER.

Now what is immortality? As per Indian scripture 'Bhagwat Gita',this soul of ours wears this body made of nature elements. After karmic cycle, depending on the Karmas of our previous life, soul drops this body at death & takes on another body based on the Karmas of our present life. Again we do Karmas in our next birth & that becomes the basis of our further next birth for this soul. So this cycle of wearing different bodies goes on for this soul.

So above is the reason why Indians believe in Rebirth / Reincarnation. What do you say? Readers comments are invited, what they say on it.

Suicide Shirt up for grabs

Subscribe to Weird India Subscribe to Weird India in MY YAHOO! Subscribe to Weird India in MY GOOGLE! Subscribe to Weird India in MY MSN! Subscribe to Weird India in MY AOL! Subscribe to Weird India in Rojo!
It may sound weird but it is true. People of Kataritola village in Hazaribagh district, 110 km from Ranchi, in Jharkhand state of India fought among themselves to get a piece of a shirt used by a youth to commit suicide.

The people were driven by a superstition that if any material used for hanging is kept in the house, it brings prosperity, the villagers said.

The incident happened in front of the police. A youth committed suicide by hanging himself from a tree using his shirt. Police reached the village and were trying to find out the reason behind the suicide after bringing down the body when the villagers started to fight for the shirt.

"There is strong belief in our society that if the material used in hanging is kept in the house, it brings prosperity and help to the family economically. It also helps in court cases. Considering the belief people tried to get a piece of the cloth," said Snehi Ram, a resident of the village.

'Green'- Robin Hood bandit killed

In India police has killed a notorious bandit known by many Indians as a local Robin Hood, who defended forests against illegal loggers and poachers. He was shot dead after 32 years on the run.

Shiv Kumar, also known by the alias Dadua, led one of the few remaining bands of outlaws who for centuries have roamed central India, and whose exploits have been romanticized in several Bollywood movies.

Thought to be in his 60s, Kumar was wanted in connection with more than 200 cases of kidnapping, extortion and murder and had a reward on his head of Indian rupees 500,000 (US$12,300; €8,950), a small fortune in this region.

"After a fierce battle, in which (the bandits) also used sophisticated weapons, the police were able to kill Dadua. He has been identified by the villagers," said A.K. Jain, inspector general of the police special task force.

Four of his accomplices were also killed in the battle in the Chitrakoot region, about 700 kilometers (430 miles) southwest of New Delhi, Jain said.

Here is a man from Bihar state of India who after being duped by his business partner has confined himself in his house for the past 27 years.

Uleiman Khan, 60, does not venture out of his house at Nagra village in Saran district, about 100 km from here. "He only gets out of his house once a year to offer prayer on Eid," Khan's family members said.

After offering prayer in a mosque he returns to his house and shuts the door. Khan, father of seven children, does not like to meet outsiders during his self-confinement.

"He has refused to meet outsiders during the last two decades," his family members said. But he behaves normally inside the house with his wife and children.
Family sources said everything was fine till 1982 when he was running a lucrative business in leather and brick kiln. But he suffered huge losses after being cheated by his business partner. "After that he has confined himself inside the house," the sources said.

Is Madhavrao Scindia's Spirit Wandering?

Subscribe to Weird India Subscribe to Weird India in MY YAHOO! Subscribe to Weird India in MY GOOGLE! Subscribe to Weird India in MY MSN! Subscribe to Weird India in MY AOL! Subscribe to Weird India in Rojo!
Madhavrao Scindia (alternatively the Maharaja of Gwalior) was a renowned Indian politician and minister from the Scindia family, who formerly ruled Gwalior. He was a nine-term member of the Lok Sabha & never lost an election since 1971, when he won for the first time from Gwalior at the age of 26.

He along with four journalists, Anju Sharma of Hindustan Times, Sanjeev Sinha of Indian Express, Ranjan Jha and Gopal Bisht, correspondent and photographer of Aaj Tak - Mr. Scindia's public relations man, Rupinder Singh, and pilot, Ray Gautam and co-pilot, Ritu Malik died on September 30, 2001 in an air crash when they were on their way from Delhi to Kanpur.

As per one Daily India report, villagers of Morta in Uttar Pradesh's Bhongaon Tehsil feel that the place where he died in the air crash is haunted. They feel that the troubled spirits have not been put to rest properly.

Many villagers have complained of getting thrashed or pushed while crossing the tragic spot in the fields in Mota Village of Mainpuri District, where the air crash occurred.

As per Dayanand, the owner of the field where the plane crash took place: "Ever since this accident happened, I have been hearing sounds of people crying and shouting. I am afraid to enter the fields."

Nathuram, another villager, said: "We are afraid to cross the fields as the spirits disturb us." Ali Daraj, another villager, said: "The spirits wander here and trouble all of us. We are worried and terrified. "

Dayanand, believes a memorial should be built at the place. He says: "I request the Government to build some memorial for the departed, so that their souls can rest in peace."

Wedding on a hospital bed

Subscribe to Weird India Subscribe to Weird India in MY YAHOO! Subscribe to Weird India in MY GOOGLE! Subscribe to Weird India in MY MSN! Subscribe to Weird India in MY AOL! Subscribe to Weird India in Rojo!
Till now you have heard of marriages taking place in temples, churches, community halls etc. but here is an interesting story from Bihar state of India where a marriage was solemnized on a hospital bed. This happened when Nawal Kumar who was going to marry Renu was attacked by some criminals when he was on his way to the bride's house at Mojipur village in Fatuha for the marriage. Ultimately Nawal Kumar married Renu on a hospital bed in Gaya.

"Some armed criminals attacked the bus carrying Kumar's marriage party and looted cash, gold chains and other valuables worth more than Rs.50,000. They also beat Kumar and others, in which his right leg was fractured," said Sanjay Kumar, a friend of the bridegroom.

Frightened after the attack, in which a dozen others were also injured, the marriage party returned to Kumar's village under the Barachatti police station in Gaya, a Maoist stronghold, without solemnizing the marriage.

The groom's father Ashok Kumar Tamrkar informed the bride's family about the incident and expressed his inability to visit their village for the marriage.
"I told the bride's father Raju Mistri that they have to come to Gaya for the marriage, otherwise I will cancel it because my family members and relatives were refusing to proceed to his village," Tamrkar said.

The bride and her family came to the hospital, where Kumar was lying on bed with a plastered leg and the marriage was solemnized by a priest with the chanting of hymns. Women offered prayers and conducted some rituals at a temple near the hospital.

Hundreds of people, including the hospital staff, nurses and doctors of the Anugrah Narayan Magadh Medical College hospital, where Kumar is admitted, watched this unique marriage.

Ghost fear shuts down School

Subscribe to Weird India Subscribe to Weird India in MY YAHOO! Subscribe to Weird India in MY GOOGLE! Subscribe to Weird India in MY MSN! Subscribe to Weird India in MY AOL! Subscribe to Weird India in Rojo!
Ghost, the name itself is enough to scare you. But just imagine if you happen to see a ghost. Just think if school children start seeing ghosts in their schools!!!!. Yes, a school in a West Bengal village is closed for the last five days, courtesy a "ghost" that resides in a haunted century-old neighborhood house and "possesses" young girl students at will.

Toiba High School at Kusumgram - a village in Burdwan district about 150 km from Kolkata - is stalked by the fear of an evil spirit these days after several girl students of the co-educational institution fell unconscious while in class.

Headmaster Sheikh Abdul Rashid, who was forced to declare holiday for an unspecified number of days, was uncertain whether classes could be resumed at all as superstition and wild rumors gripped not only the students but also their parents.

Trouble started on last Tuesday when Class 11 student Sweety Khatoon started feeling dizzy and fainted during the morning prayer. The same day, Class 12 student Sonali Khatoon fell unconscious in her classroom.

The following day, four Class 5 students fell unconscious in their classrooms. By Thursday, 11 girls had fallen sick.

All the students who fainted were girls, fuelling the fear that the "ghost" was targeting them.

Monkey steals tourist's glasses

Subscribe to Weird India Subscribe to Weird India in MY YAHOO! Subscribe to Weird India in MY GOOGLE! Subscribe to Weird India in MY MSN! Subscribe to Weird India in MY AOL! Subscribe to Weird India in Rojo!
Just imagine , if during your visit to a foreign land you find that your costly reading glasses have been stolen from your hotel room. You shall be frustrated but more if the pair of glasses have been stolen by a monkey!!!!!!!. Exactly same thing happened with a South Korean tourist while he was visiting the Hindu holy city of Varanasi in northern India.

Kim Dang Hoon has filed a formal complaint against a monkey he says stole his reading glasses during his visit to the Varanasi.

Kim Dang Hoon says he opened his hotel room window for fresh air when the monkey made his move.

"He headed straight to the table where my glasses were kept and took it away," Kim said in the statement.

Part of the frame later was recovered by hotel staff and Kim said he filed the report so he can make a damages claim on his travel insurance.

Thousands of wild monkeys roam Varanasi, dotting the trees on the banks of the Ganges River and scampering through the city's many temples, where they are venerated as manifestations of the Hindu monkey god Hanuman.

On Tuesday, police combed Varanasi's alleys searching for the monkey.

"It is difficult to trace the monkey but I am trying my best to locate the rogue," investigating officer Inspector Govind Singh said from Varanasi, some 185 miles southeast of Lucknow.

"But we can't do anything. We cannot shoot them or beat them as Hindus worship monkeys," he said.

Siamese baby being worshipped as 'Goddess'

Subscribe to Weird India Subscribe to Weird India in MY YAHOO! Subscribe to Weird India in MY GOOGLE! Subscribe to Weird India in MY MSN! Subscribe to Weird India in MY AOL! Subscribe to Weird India in Rojo!
Here is a Siamese baby who was born on July 4 to Geeta of the Indalpur Village near Shahjahanpur in Uttar Pradesh's Bareilly District in India. This infant was born with two heads, four hands and two legs. But due to ignorance, villagers are worshipping this child as reincarnation of Goddess.

Ramesh, father of the twins, said: "On the fourth of this month, this child was born to my wife at 8'o clock. Everyone called her an incarnation of Devi (Goddess), as she has two heads, four hands and two legs. People come here from far off places, and offer money to my child out of respect."

Doctors suggest it could also be Siamese or conjoined twins, who are joined together physically at a particular part of the body. The newborn are conjoined at the torso.

Dr. Ashok Aggarwal, a surgeon with the Ruhelkhand, Medical College, said: "Such kinds of children are called as Siamese baby. They are no incarnation of God. It can be referred to as a mistake done by nature. When two eggs join at the time of fertilization, they grow together after that. They are no incarnation. They should be immediately operated to be separated so that life of both the babies can be saved.

He added that if they are continued to be treated as an incarnation, then life of both babies can come into danger. "Thus, to save their lives, operation is a must."

The news of the unusual child-birth spread very quickly. After initial hesitation and surprise, people started pouring in to have a glimpse of the child.

Elders in the infant's family are also delighted to have been blessed with 'the baby Goddess'.

Is American Scientist Reborn as 'Rajesh' in India?

Subscribe to Weird India Subscribe to Weird India in MY YAHOO! Subscribe to Weird India in MY GOOGLE! Subscribe to Weird India in MY MSN! Subscribe to Weird India in MY AOL! Subscribe to Weird India in Rojo!
If you have heard of words like Bizarre, Miracle of Nature, Unbelievable, Unthinkable, Wondrous, etc. etc. this story shall make you believe in all that. Can a rustic boy who lives in a remote village of India, where there is no communication of Normal TV or Cable TV suddenly start speaking in perfect American accent? Can a boy of 14 years suddenly forgets his local language , even Hindi language & starts speaking in American English accent? Can a 14 years boy who has never learnt science, ever teach Newton's laws, Einstein principles to B-Tech Engineering students?

As per one IBN7- TV report today evening, here is "Rajesh", a 14 years boy from Bilaspur village of Saharanpur in Uttar Pradesh state of India who studies in 9th standard & has suddenly started speaking English in perfect American English accent. He has forgotten local language & Hindi language also. Suddenly he is talking as a 40 years old scientist who is able to teach Physics, Chemistry laws to students. Not only that, he can discuss at length Newton's laws, Einstein principles, other science laws & is also teaching Engineering students much older than him. Such things & science laws that he writes while teaching on College blackboard are mind boggling. His body language is also of a 40 years old scientist & just seeing him speaking like this, one cannot say that he is 14 years old. He talks of Mars & Space & wants to do more research on it.

Interestingly he has never gone to America, not even has ever gone beyond his village, still suddenly he has been transformed into a scientist speaking American English .

At present he is living in Rampur Village with his aunt as his parents are puzzled with him & has sent him away from their native place to his aunt's place in Rampur village. He has his mother Omkara Devi, who is an illiterate & a laborer. His Father Som Pal Singh, is a mental patient. He has one elder brother Anuj & a sister Muskan. His parents are extremely poor.

As per his Mother Omkara Devi, "Before 1.5 years back he was normal but suddenly he started speaking English which was not understandable to them. As per her its a miracle of God."

His transformation occurred one day when his mental father was hit on the head & seeing his worse mental condition, he became silent for 3 months. He kept himself closed in a room for 3 months & after that time he was transformed into a different new person.

As per his brother Anuj, " He was knowing little English when they were both in school, but this new Rajesh, his brother speaking in American English is a miracle, may be these are his memories of earlier birth."

His all friends, villagers, teachers are also bewildered at his this transformation & are unable to understand him as he has altogether forgotten local language.

As per Rajesh, "It is Re-Memory, as Memory never dies, it is transferred when a person is reborn." As per him he wants to work for the society & nation. As per him he wants to contribute with all his scientific knowledge.

Now these words indicate of the rebirth of an American Scientist as Rajesh & all the past memories of his earlier life have suddenly come alive, whatever, the reason may be.

Is it a case of rebirth or a split personality, readers need to decide. Readers comments are invited, what they say on it.

Subscribe to Weird India Subscribe to Weird India in MY YAHOO! Subscribe to Weird India in MY GOOGLE! Subscribe to Weird India in MY MSN! Subscribe to Weird India in MY AOL! Subscribe to Weird India in Rojo!
Darul Uloom - Deoband, one of the oldest and prestigious Islamic seminaries in the world at Deoband has issued a Fatwa / Decree in India as per which it sanctions the Islamic weddings that take place over the Internet via web cam or Internet nikahs. The fatwa was declared after two couples got married over the Internet.

One of the head clerics at Deoband said: "The Internet assumes the role of a lawyer in such cases and is, therefore, competent to formally supervise the "Ijaab" (offer of marriage) and "Qabool" (acceptance) made by the bride and bridegroom."

Pl. note that earlier the same Islamic seminary has issued the Fatwas like Mobile ringtones are un-islamic, read "Quran Verses As Ringtones, Not Allowed". Then recently they declared Suicide is 'Un-Islamic'. Then there was Co-education system is “unlawful” as such an arrangement in colleges and universities spawn a “number of evils”. As per this decree boys & girls cannot study in the same college / university.

Taj Mahal & a Slum of Howrah

What is common between Taj Mahal & a dingy tenement in Howrah slum near Kolkata in West Bengal state of India?

Taj Mahal has been named one of the "New Wonders of the World" & here is "Sultana Begum", the 54-year-old great granddaughter-in-law of the last Mughal Emperor "Bahadur Shah Zafar", who was a direct descendent of Shah Jahan who built the Taj Mahal. Sultana's husband, late Mirza Mohd Bedar Bukht, was the direct descendant of Bahadur Shah Zafar and crown queen Zeenat Mehal.

"Sultana Begum" lives in her home in a West Bengal slum at Howrah. She lives in a 66 sq ft dingy room at Foreshore Road in Howrah district & is getting Indian Rs.400 ( US$ 10 ) as monthly pension from the Indian government.

Nevertheless, she was full of joy & happiness when marble mausoleum in Agra was named one of the "New Wonders of the World" in Lisbon.

'It was one of the happiest moments of my life. I stayed up till late in the night to watch the telecast of the results from Lisbon,' an ecstatic Sultana Begum said.

All impossible things can happen in Police records in India. If you think a Boeing 747 cannot be bought for US$ 40, here are Tamil Nadu state police in India, which is declaring that a Boeing 747 is worth Indian Rs 1,600 (US$ 40).

As per one IBN Live report , below are some other items, prices of which seem amazing in police records.

Simple Bicycle is worth around Indian Rs 90, 000 ( US$ 2250 ).

Ordinary motorcycle is valued at over Indian Rs 11 lakh ( US$ 27,500 ).

Seventy grams of gold is valued at Indian Rs 20 lakh! ( US$ 50,000 ).

Boeing 747 is worth Indian Rs 1,600 (US$ 40) & to top of all, as per Police records 15,000 buffaloes have been reported lost in a single case.

So here is the efficiency & correctness of Tamil Nadu state police records as audited by Comptroller and Auditor General of India in year 2006.

Co-education system is 'unlawful' - says Fatwa

Subscribe to Weird India Subscribe to Weird India in MY YAHOO! Subscribe to Weird India in MY GOOGLE! Subscribe to Weird India in MY MSN! Subscribe to Weird India in MY AOL! Subscribe to Weird India in Rojo!

It seems Muslim Clerics in India are in a habit of issuing "Religious Decrees" / "Fatwas" every now & then which at time seems amazing & weird. Earlier once they said Mobile ringtones are un-islamic, read "Quran Verses As Ringtones, Not Allowed". Then recently they declared Suicide is 'Un-Islamic'. Now here comes another one which says that Co-education system is “unlawful” as such an arrangement in colleges and universities spawn a “number of evils”. As per this decree boys & girls cannot study in the same college / university.

Darul Uloom-Deoband, one of the oldest and prestigious Islamic seminaries in the world, has issued the fatwa (202/L) on July 1.

The latest fatwa answered a question which went: “Is it permitted for girls to go to co-educational schools after they reach puberty?”

The fatwa, to begin with, said “it was unlawful for women to meet mahram men without a hijab or mix with them”. Anyone (whom a Muslim is not allowed to get married to) from the opposite sex who has reached puberty is considered a mahram. The second part of the same fatwa went against the “deeni classes” where “grown-up” boys and girls attend the same madrasas. “Such deeni classes, where boys and girls are taught together, are un-Islamic and attending such classes is not allowed”. The second part of the fatwa answered the question: “Is it permitted to go to deeni classes if boys and girls are taught together?”

What's your opinion on Muslim Clerics issuing such decrees / fatwas? Readers comments are invited.

'Homework Outsourcing' by Indian Kids

Subscribe to Weird India Subscribe to Weird India in MY YAHOO! Subscribe to Weird India in MY GOOGLE! Subscribe to Weird India in MY MSN! Subscribe to Weird India in MY AOL! Subscribe to Weird India in Rojo!

Till now we have heard of outsourcing of IT services but "Homework Outsourcing" & that too by Indian Kids, it may seem altogether a different thing. But many Kids in India are doing exactly the same thing during their summer vacations. Such kids always come back to school after vacations with wonderfully crafted science projects, charts & neat homework, all courtesy Outsourcing of such work.

Meet Shalu Bangar, a class VIII student of New Delhi Public School who was happily holidaying in Jalandar city in Punjab while others were working hard to finish her project on industrial waste for a sum of Indian Rs.300/- (US$ 7.5 only).

Shalu says, “I had gone to Punjab and I had so many other things to do so I gave them my project. I hope I get good marks now.”

This is a homework factory - from arts and craft projects to the lifecycle of a butterfly you name it they will make it for you. All you have to do is shell out anything between Indian Rs 100 to Rs 300 (US$ 2.5 to 7.5) and you are all set to become the apple of your teacher's eye.

The owner of Melody Projects Manoj Kumar says, “We keep in mind the student's budget; it should look like the student has made it. And we try and ensure that the student scores well.”

Interesting, isn't it. What's your say on it ? Readers comments are invited.

Girl child rescued from grave

Subscribe to Weird India Subscribe to Weird India in MY YAHOO! Subscribe to Weird India in MY GOOGLE! Subscribe to Weird India in MY MSN! Subscribe to Weird India in MY AOL! Subscribe to Weird India in Rojo!
In India problem of "Dowry" is like a scourge & due to this many parents don't want girl child in their family as they have to pay huge dowry in her marriage. That is the reason that in many states of India Girl : Boys ratio is remarkably low, as people either abort the girl child or in a few cases even kill them.

Now take the case of this couple who tried to kill their two-day-old granddaughter by burying her alive on the outskirts of Utkoor town in Mahabubnagar district in Andhra Pradesh state of India.

Abdul Rehman and Kusoora Begum whose family was already having seven daughters did not wanted the girl child anymore. So they hatched a plan, dug a pit on the roadside and buried the little girl in it. A passersby who heard her crying from a semi-dug grave in an agricultural field rescued her.

Its really shameful that such incidents occur in Indian society. It's the only one which was noticed & came to news. There are many cases which just go unnoticed & girls are killed just like that.

Here is Pawan Kumar Kailay, a tailor based from Goraya in Punjab state's Jalandhar District in India who has designed 35 jackets which can be worn in 9,800 different colors and styles.

As per him 'if you wear one jacket everyday, it would take 27 years to repeat the same color and design. It took me five years to design the jackets and another six months to take 9,800 photographs, one of each design and color''.

His earlier feat was stitching the smallest ever night-suit measuring about two and a half inches (one-inch upper, one-inch lower and half-a-inch jacket).

Pawan has entered the Limca Book of Records for inventing a trouser, which can be re-used ten times and each time, it would have a fresh look with new design and pockets.

Another creation of Pawan can be worn in 22 different styles - as a trouser, shirt, jacket and shorts.

While many find tough to thread a needle, Pawan can string 1584 threads in a single needle.

Moreover, he has invented a miniature sword and a miniature kite that can pass through a needle.

Fascinated with minute things, Pawan claims to have made the world's smallest photo album of half-an-inch that can contain 40 photographs.

Pawan holds the national record of balancing—one and a half-kilogram weight, a cold-drink bottle and an egg—all together one on top of another on a pen cap, for which he has his name registered in the Limca book of Records.

Dogs Offer Prayers at Hindu Temple

Subscribe to Weird India Subscribe to Weird India in MY YAHOO! Subscribe to Weird India in MY GOOGLE! Subscribe to Weird India in MY MSN! Subscribe to Weird India in MY AOL! Subscribe to Weird India in Rojo!
It may seem weird but its true. In Buxar town, about 125 km from Patna city in Bihar state of India, here is a "Kali Temple" where dozens of dogs have since 1965 been religiously queuing up twice a day outside the temple - just in time for the daily ritual services.

Dogs religiously join morning & evening prayers & as per one devotee, Mahavir Singh: "At the time of prayers in the temple when devotees perform different rituals, blowing a conch or chanting hymns, dozens of dogs join by barking with their heads up."

"These dogs have been joining the prayers without a miss ever since 1965 when the temple came up," he added.

These stray dogs visit the temple in the morning and in the evening just before the "Artis" ( religious prayer). They are also given "Prasad" ( remnants of offerings made to the Deity) by the devotees.

Is 'Kalpana Chawla' Reborn in India?

Subscribe to Weird India Subscribe to Weird India in MY YAHOO! Subscribe to Weird India in MY GOOGLE! Subscribe to Weird India in MY MSN! Subscribe to Weird India in MY AOL! Subscribe to Weird India in Rojo!

In India stories of reincarnation are very common. Every now & then we find small Childs in India claiming to remember their past lives, in which they tell exact details of their previous life. But is this story of a 4 yr old from India claiming to be the reincarnation of Kalpana Chawla true? The great India born astronaut "Kalpana Chawla" worked with NASA in United States of America & died on February 1, 2003 as the Columbia space shuttle on which she was returning to earth after a space mission, disintegrated 16 minutes prior to landing on earth.

Here is "Upasana", a 4 yr old Girl from Bulandshahar in Uttar Pradesh state in northern India. As per one IBN7 - TV report in India today, "Upasana", the little girl claims to be the reincarnation of "Kalpana Chawla".

"Upasana" was born on 23rd March 2003, while "Kalpana Chawla" died on Ist Feb. 2003. "Upasana" claims to be the reincarnation of "Kalpana Chawla". As per "Upasana", she is afraid of planes & claims that she died in the air, in an air crash. She has told Kalpana's father's name too & as per her claim she also knows about the Professors & Mentors of "Kalpana Chawla".

As per Upasana's father Raj Kumar,"Upasana has been telling us ever since she started speaking that her name was Kalpana Chawla and that her father's name was Banarsi Das Chawla but we could not figure out anything as we had never heard of Kalpana".

Now how true is the reincarnation claim of the "Upasana", the little girl as "Kalpana chawla", is debatable. Viewers comments are invited on this.

15 Kgs Gold offered to Hindu Deity

Subscribe to Weird India Subscribe to Weird India in MY YAHOO! Subscribe to Weird India in MY GOOGLE! Subscribe to Weird India in MY MSN! Subscribe to Weird India in MY AOL! Subscribe to Weird India in Rojo!

Earlier post 'Tirupati Balaji' - Richest God in the world, explains about the richness of this Hindu deity. Now here is one person from Chandigarh city in India who offered 15 Kgs Pure Gold to the Hindu deity at the Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanam (TTD) temple on Tuesday. Gold offered is worth Indian Rs 1.5 Crore ( US$ 3,75,000 ).

Balbir Singh Uppal, a Chandigarh-based industrialist and the CMD of Lakshmi Energy and Foods, donated the items which contained a sankanidhi, padmanidhi and eka harathi, two nakshatra harathis and a sankham — each made of gold — and a dhoopa harathi. As per Mr. Uppal, “I and my family had a wish to have grandson which has been completed. That’s why we went to Tiruputi and gave our offerings. We also conducted pooja there".

Temple officials added that the items would be used during the daily rituals of the Lord.

This is the second Rs One Crore-plus donation that the temple has received over the past three days. On Sunday, K Surya Rao, a Bangalore-based businessman, had donated over Indian Rs 1.0 Crore ( US$ 2,50,000 ) to TTD.

Earlier this year there was another big — and high profile — donation. Bollywood super star Amitabh Bachchan, Amar Singh and Anil Ambani had donated Indian Rs 50 lakh ( US$ 1,25,000 ) each when they had visited the temple to seek blessings for Abhisek Bachchan and Aishwarya Rai after their marriage.

God has disappeared

Subscribe to Weird India Subscribe to Weird India in MY YAHOO! Subscribe to Weird India in MY GOOGLE! Subscribe to Weird India in MY MSN! Subscribe to Weird India in MY AOL! Subscribe to Weird India in Rojo!

Amarnath is one of the most famous of Hindu shrines / temples. It is dedicated to Lord Shiva & is located in Jammu and Kashmir state of India. It is said that this temple is around 5000 years old. Every year about 400,000 people visit the temple during the 45 day season around the festival of Shravani Mela in July-August, coinciding with the Hindu holy month of Shravan. It is located in the mountains of Himalayas & inside the Amarnath Cave lies the ice Shiva Lingam, a natural formation of an ice stalagmite in the form of lingam.

This year the annual pilgrimage to Amarnath commenced on First of July with nearly 13000 devotees leaving for the cave shrine in south Kashmir Himalayas. But to the disappointment of the devotees, the naturally-formed ice Shiva lingam at the holy cave shrine of Amarnath in Jammu and Kashmir has completely melted. It is said that stalagmite that is worshipped as a Hindu god has melted away because of the body heat of thousands of people visiting it.

The CEO of the Amarnath Shrine Board, Arun Kumar has also confirmed that main shivling at Amarnath has melted away.

Is it the result of Global Warming or due to the body heat of thousands of people visiting it? May be its a result of both or else God is annoyed with the devotees / humanity & has disappeared just before the pilgrimage has started!!!

Why it disappeared?

As per on Star News TV report today, in the month of April -May much before the annual pilgrimage to Amarnath yatra / pilgrimage began, many Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF), jawans / personnel, visited the Ice Lingam / Stalagmite & in the religious fervor went near to it, touched it, hugged it & even lighted Diyas ( Diya is a contracted form of deep or light given by small earthen pots, with wick made of cotton and dipped in ghee) just below the Ice Lingam / Stalagmite.

It is also learnt that around 55,000 people have visited the shrine much before the annual pilgrimage to Amarnath yatra began.

It is quite evident that heat of Diyas & the activities of hugging etc. of CRPF, jawans / personnel might have caused the melting of Ice Lingam / Stalagmite. Such acts of CRPF personnel are not as per the rules of the shrine board as board does not allow any person to go near the Lingam, touch it, hug it or light any flammable object near it which can cause harm to it. Such acts of CRPF personnel need to be investigated so that it cannot cause injury to the faith of hundreds of thousands of pilgrims who devotedly visit it every year.

It also needs to be investigated how "Amarnath Shrine Board" has allowed these CRPF personnel & other people to visit the shrine before the annual pilgrimage started.

Isn't it strange that an economy which is rising at 9-10 % per annum is unable to control the basic thing as rains in its major cities. Here are few pictures of the India's metropolitan cities, Mumbai & Kolkata which have been devastated by Monsoon Rains over there this year.

It's high time Indian Government takes some emergency measures to control the devastation caused by the rains in India.

Below is a picture of an Indian hand rickshaw puller who is pushing his rickshaw through the waters after a heavy downpour in Calcutta / Kolkata city in West Bengal state of India. There is another picture of a Taxi submerged in the Mumbai city in India. Other pictures are also from India where heavy rains have created havoc.

Here is one couple from Kot Patiala village of Una district in Himachal Pradesh state of India, who is enjoying marital bliss for 84 years & could enter the Guinness Book of Records as the longest surviving married couple in the world.

As per Bishambhar Rana, the son of 103 year-old Pyara Singh and 101 year-old Hansa Devi, he had sent the relevant details of his parents to the record keeper's office last month for entering their name as the longest surviving married couple.

"Accepting the application, they have sent me a form in this regard," he said. After verifying the facts, Guinness would add the couple in their record list, he claimed.

Born on January 5, 1904, Singh, an army pensioner for the past 65 years, married Hansa on May 23, 1924 in Kot Patiala village of Una district in Himachal Pradesh.

The elderly couple has three sons and two daughters.

Singh, who joined the army in 1930, fought in the Second World War as part of the British Indian Army.

And the secret of the couple's long life -- disciplined living, controlled diet and honesty, revealed Singh.

Suicide is 'Un-Islamic'

Subscribe to Weird India Subscribe to Weird India in MY YAHOO! Subscribe to Weird India in MY GOOGLE! Subscribe to Weird India in MY MSN! Subscribe to Weird India in MY AOL! Subscribe to Weird India in Rojo!
It seems Muslim religious leaders / Muslim clerics in India are in the habit of issuing edicts which may seem at time ridiculous. Take the case of this Edict / Fatwa which terms the Suicide as 'Un-Islamic'!!!! In the Kashmir Valley in Indian state of India, in the wake of a spurt in suicides, a top Muslim cleric in the state termed suicide as "un-Islamic" and sought awareness among people to "curb the menace."

"It (suicide) is haram (forbidden) in Islam. Islam has strictly prohibited such a step," the state's grand mufti Bashir-ud-Din said in a fatwa.

The mufti took serious note of the cases of suicides, 116 since last year, and urged Muslim clerics to create awareness to curb this menace during their Friday sermons.
The decree came as the apex court of Islamic 'Shariat' (Dar-ul-Fatwa), headed by the mufti, felt that there has been a sharp increase in suicides in the Kashmir Valley with mostly younger persons, including women, taking the extreme step.

According to official figures, 116 people have committed suicide since 2006 in the Kashmir Valley, including 55 this year.

Out of 61 people who committed suicide last year, 43 were young and middle-aged women. This year too, of the 42 cases, 25 were women.
