Bachelors who are going to get married need to take a lesson from this groom who lost his bride to his brother as he was too drunk at the time of his marriage. So if you are going to get married, do stay away from booze, otherwise someone else shall be the husband of your wanna be bride.

An incident happened in Arwal district in Bihar state of India when Villagers at a wedding decided the groom had arrived too drunk to get married, and so the bride married the groom's more sober brother instead, police said on Monday.

"The groom was drunk and had reportedly misbehaved with guests when the bride's family and local villagers chased him away," as per the Madho Singh, a senior police officer over there.

The younger brother readily agreed to take the groom's place beside the teenage bride at her family's invitation, witnesses said.

"The groom apologized for his behavior, but has been crying that word will spread and he will never get a bride again," Singh said.

Manjit Singh, 57, an Indian who is settled in Leicester is seeking to enter the record books once again by performing the unique feat of pulling a passenger aircraft over more than 12 feet using only his ears.

He, has 30 records to his name, but last week took his physical prowess further as he dragged the 30-seater Jetstream 41 aircraft along the apron at the East Midlands Airport using a rope attached to clamps around his earlobes.

Singh's records include having the strongest lungs in the world, pulling a double-decker bus with his hair for 78.2 metres and lifting 85 kg with his ears. The latest feat was arranged to raise cash for an academy that aims to give sports opportunities to children in his birthplace - Mahilpur in India.

Tightening the clamps around his ears, Singh screamed in pain as he pushed backwards to try to get the aircraft rolling. A crowd of airport staff and onlookers shouted encouragement as the plane began to move.

Singh later told newsmen: 'When I started pulling it did not move at all, and I thought 'this is the end of my life'. I was in so much pain I couldn't think of anything else. I just closed my eyes and kept pushing. Then I felt it move and that was the most amazing feeling in the world.

Eating habits of this boy are really weird. He is fond of eating snakes, lizards, frogs, scorpions and others insects. Yes here is Pankaj Kumar Singh, aged 12 years from Bolaidih village of Sarikela, Kharsawa district in Jharkhand state of India, who has an unusual taste for reptiles.

Boy's appetite for all such creatures is so strong that his parents have tied him up with chains to prevent him from eating all such reptiles.

'We keep him tied to prevent him from eating reptiles. We also fear that his bite may hurt someone because he likes to eat poisonous reptiles,' said Pankaj's mother, Saroj Devi.

'When Pankaj was two years old, I spotted him eating a frog. He ate the frog's bodies and threw away their legs,' she said.

Saroj Devi said her son, who does not speak clearly, has a strange affinity for animals.

'The entire village was terrified of a monkey once, but Pankaj killed it easily,' a newspaper report quotes her as saying.

Brother Dheeraj, 16, added: 'Once Pankaj even devoured a chameleon.'

Elephants prefer Crops to Forest fodder

Subscribe to Weird India Subscribe to Weird India in MY YAHOO! Subscribe to Weird India in MY GOOGLE! Subscribe to Weird India in MY MSN! Subscribe to Weird India in MY AOL! Subscribe to Weird India in Rojo!
As per one government study in India, elephants over here prefer food crops to forest fodder and often travel hundreds of miles to the same farmland every year, even remembering specific months of harvesting.

Elephants were adapting to new foods as their traditional habitat was shrinking due to villagers encroaching in forests, experts said after a four-year study on Asian elephants in West Bengal state.

Elephants are migratory animals and move from one forest to another through corridors which are now fragmented due to villages and farmlands, conservationists say, making the animals change their habits.

"Villagers were cultivating crops right on their path and were responsible for the changing food habits of elephants," said Shakti Ranjan Banerjee of the Wildlife Protection Society of India.

Ghosts & Spirits released from 'Banyan tree'

Subscribe to Weird India Subscribe to Weird India in MY YAHOO! Subscribe to Weird India in MY GOOGLE! Subscribe to Weird India in MY MSN! Subscribe to Weird India in MY AOL! Subscribe to Weird India in Rojo!

"The Banyan Tree" is the National Tree of India. This huge tree has the widest reaching roots of all known trees. It sends off new shoots from its roots, so that one tree is really a tangle of branches, roots, and trunks. The banyan tree regenerates and lives for an incredible length of time-thus it is thought of as the immortal tree. India has a long history of honoring this tree & it figures prominently in many of the oldest stories of the nation.

But here is an interesting story of ghosts & spirits which were staying on a Banyan tree, which got released from it when it was cut down recently.

"Kothakurssi" is a place in Palakkad district in Kerala state of India which abounds in Banyan trees. Recently "Kothakurssi" had experienced seven accidental deaths and been cursed by the phenomenon of several people suddenly and inexplicably taking ill, all in a matter of 10 days.

To explain all sudden deaths an aged mullah vaguely recalled a similar phenomenon occurring in his childhood, when two kurikkals (Muslim physicians with magical powers) had been summoned from afar to investigate it and suggest remedies.

They had attributed the phenomenon to certain disgruntled spirits in the vicinity. They had propitiated the spirits and, with their magical powers & settled them in a banyan tree.

It was the very same tree, the mullah remembered, that had been mowed down just the week before the first of the recent accidental deaths.

The spirits, released from the tree, could well be at large again, he said. Everybody knew of the cutting down of the tree. The tree was cut as its roots were threatening the foundation of a shop.

Do you find any logic in such weird thinking of people over there or its just a case of superstition among the dwellers in the area that they are attributing all sudden deaths & illness to releasing of ghosts & spirits from the Banyan tree. Readers comments are welcome.

As per a government survey most of the emotional and physical abuse suffered by children in Indian families is inflicted by mothers. The study released by the women and child development ministry in India says out of the 15,000 child respondents, 50.9 percent children were subjected to physical abuse by their mothers while 37.6 percent faced abuse from their fathers.

According to the study 44.13 percent reported facing humiliation. The report has taken humiliation - referred to as degradation of self-esteem of a child by shouting, belittling, name-calling and using abusive language - as well as comparison with other children as indicators of emotional abuse.

Shockingly, around 44.09 percent reported being humiliated by their mothers and 35.35 by their fathers.

"If put together, almost 89 percent children were subjected to physical abuse by their parents, who have the primary responsibility of protecting their children," said the survey conducted with the support of the Unicef and two NGOs, Save the Child and Prayas.

'Millionaire' Beggars

Mumbai is India's financial and entertainment capital. Here people come from all over India to try their luck to get rich. Of course many become Millionaire through hard work & interestingly many become Millionaire by begging also.

Meet here "Massu", who begs for alms at the Lokhandwala Complex in suburban Mumbai's Andheri area.

Barefoot, squint-eyed, somewhat emaciated and wearing filthy clothes, Massu begs for alms. His working hours start at 8 in the evening and he calls it a day in the wee hours of the morning after the last diners have headed home. His takings average between Indian Rs.1,000 and Indian Rs.1,500 on a good business night.

Yes, Massu is one of the many "millionaire" beggars in India 's financial and entertainment capital.

Dressed in spotless white clothes, 60-year-old Malana Khan, Massu to his acquaintances, takes an auto-rickshaw from his one-bedroom-hall-kitchen (BHK) flat in middle-class Andheri West in western suburban Mumbai and heads towards up market Lokhandwala complex every evening.

He changes into his "begging attire" in a lane near Adlabs and is ready for the night.

Calling it a day at around 3 a.m., Massu takes an auto-rickshaw back home. He stops near Yashraj Studios close to his home for a change of clothes.

Besides his BHK flat at Amboli in Andheri West, Massu also owns a similar flat in neighboring Andheri East.

"When darkness descends on the graveyard, a tall shadow emerges out, stalks passersby, stops them and asks for cakes and a cup of tea. Needless to say, the hair-raising encounter makes the people run away as fast as they can. A few of them simply collapsed, adds graveyard caretaker Mahmood Ali. "

Mahmood explains, "Many people saw the ghost emerging out of Tomkinson's grave while others saw it melting down right on the same grave."

The ghost that emerges out of a graveyard in the outskirts of Gaya in Bihar state of India is of one English man "Owen Tomkinson" who was a British soldier who died of cholera at the age of 47 on September 19, 1906 & was buried in the Durbar graveyard at Iqbal Nagar here. Weird act of a Lady Teacher

Subscribe to Weird India Subscribe to Weird India in MY YAHOO! Subscribe to Weird India in MY GOOGLE! Subscribe to Weird India in MY MSN! Subscribe to Weird India in MY AOL! Subscribe to Weird India in Rojo!
In India, in many area's, society is divided on the lines of Caste. Society is divided among the upper caste people & lower caste people. Upper class people look down upon the lower caste people. But what would you call to the act of an upper caste lady teacher at a Zilla Parishad higher middle school in 'Surewada' village in Maharashtra state of India, who sprinkled ‘gomutra’ (cow’s urine) on students and inside the classrooms to “purify’’ them and drive out an “evil spirit’’ from the premises.

As per one Times of India report:

"The ZP school runs classes from first to seventh standard and has 210 students, including 20 Dalit students. Last month, Tilottama Tembhurkar, headmistress of the school, who belongs to a ‘lower’ caste, was transferred but not relieved of her charge. However, teachers from the upper caste believed that Tembhurkar’s presence was inauspicious for the school.

In the last week of March, Tembhurkar handed over charge to senior teacher Sharad Kaitade (an upper caste). In early April, when he formally took over as the school headmaster, Kaitade allegedly performed a puja in the school and asked a lady teacher Madhavi Raut to sprinkle gomutra inside the classes and school premises.

Raut promptly went around the school premises and classes sprinkling cow urine—while the students were appearing for their annual exam. She entered the class where Dalit students were also solving the question paper.

Raut allegedly asked the Dalit students to get up and sprinkled ‘gomutra’ on them, saying it would “purify’’ them. However, while doing so, some of it fell on the answer sheets and the students’ faces too. Feeling humiliated, the students narrated the incident to their parents, who along with other villagers, registered a protest with Kaitade. "

Oh God! What a weird act which happened in this 21st century scientific age!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Wearing ghost costumes during worship

In India there is a tribal clan "Mahto" in Jharkhand state's Tamad village which has a unique traditional festival known as "Koka", in which the participants wear ghost costumes and dance to look like as the ardent devotees of Lord Shiva.

During the festival dummy ghosts or "Kokas" attracts attention of a lot of tribals interested in Tantrik rituals. Locals dressed as dummy ghosts lead the procession and the "Kokas" are regarded as a part of Lord Shiva's marriage entourage.

"It has been practiced for generations. I believe it's been now nearly 1000 years or even more. I have been observing this festival since 1963 as a nine-year old. All said and done, it is a major festival," said Rattan Lal Rai, a "Koka".

Many persons disguise their appearance since the belief is that if one makes a vow to the Lord for some favor, the person has to put on such looks for a particular number of times. They believe that the God listens to their vows and fulfills them!

People from far and near gather for a memorable glimpse of "Kokas". None of the participants is afraid of having any nightmare since a "Kokas", the dummy ghost is a devout Bhakta / Devotee of Lord Shiva.

Blowing Balloons from Ears

Subscribe to Weird India Subscribe to Weird India in MY YAHOO! Subscribe to Weird India in MY GOOGLE! Subscribe to Weird India in MY MSN! Subscribe to Weird India in MY AOL! Subscribe to Weird India in Rojo!
Our ears are for hearing but can you believe, someone can use ears for blowing balloons and taking showers!!!!!!!

Meet Sanjay Sharma, aged 34 from Badliyas village in Bhilwara district in Rajasthan state of India. He is able to blow up balloons & can take out water in the form of shower from his ears. As per him, 'It's all a result of yoga. I practice yoga and do exercises every day in the morning,' says Sharma.

Two years back, while taking a bath in the local river Banas, Sharma decided he wanted to use his ears to sprinkle out water. So he blocked his nose and mouth and used a yoga technique to exhale & lo a shower of water came out of his ears. Later, he tried the same technique for blowing up balloons and eventually succeeded.

'After six months of practice I did the same in front of my friend and he was very surprised,' he added.

Sanjay normally uses a small plastic pipe to blow up the balloons. One end of the pipe is fixed into the balloon, while the other end is fixed to his ear.

After blocking his nose and mouth he pumps air in the balloon through his ears. He takes 5-7 minutes to blow the balloon properly.

World War-I bomber found in Elephant stable

A termite-ridden World War-I bomber was recovered from one elephant stable of a palace in India. This bomber is at present on display in Britain's Imperial War Museum. The plane is a de Havilland DH 9, made of wood and canvas.

About 2,000 of them were built in Britain during World War I for long-distance raids, but the one at the museum in Duxford, near Cambridge, is the only one Britain currently has, thanks to its discovery by a backpacker in the elephant house at the former Bikaner Maharaja's palace in India's desert state of Rajasthan, reports the Daily Telegraph.

It took two years and about $1 million to restore the plane so it could be shown at the museum.

As per Guy Black, director of a restoration company who helped return the plane back to Britain, told the Telegraph that he went discreetly to the palace in India to ask about the wreckage.

"They showed me to an elephant stable which was like a dog's kennel but 100 times bigger," he said. "There among the saddles and other paraphernalia were piles of WWI wings and tails and other things. I could not believe my eyes."

Whenever, you go to a temple in India, priests over there normally bless the people with holy water, flowers, garlands, sweets or fruits. But here in Bihar state of India Hindu priests are blessing children with polio drops to help eradicate the crippling disease. This year, in the state 11 polio cases were reported in the children. Polio is a disease which can cause permanent paralysis in the children.

"We are keen to wipe out polio and we thought involving temple priests would be a good idea as people trust and listen to them," said Gopal Krishna, a senior Bihar health official.

Health officials in Bihar have trained hundreds of priests to give polio drops to immunize children, Gopal Krishna said.

"I was very surprised when the priest put polio drops into the mouths of several children, including my son, as god's blessings," said Sunita Devi, a resident of Patna, the state capital. "But we trust the priest as he can do us no harm."

Man walks on burning coal to prove innocence

Subscribe to Weird India Subscribe to Weird India in MY YAHOO! Subscribe to Weird India in MY GOOGLE! Subscribe to Weird India in MY MSN! Subscribe to Weird India in MY AOL! Subscribe to Weird India in Rojo!
"Agni Pariksha", (test of fire) in Hindu mythology was practiced by " Sita", wife of "Lord Rama", when she came back after being abducted by demon king 'Ravana". But that was in historical ancient times. Here is a story of a tribal man who in a bid to prove his innocence after being accused of killing a goat, walked on blazing coal in a village in Rajasthan.

Hundreds of people witnessed the 'trial by fire' of Narsaram Garasiya of Gaonfali village in Upla Khejda panchayat of Sirohi district, in Rajasthan state of India.
Garasiya was accused of killing a neighbor's goat with a stone on April 11. The panchayat ( local body), which failed to arrive at a decision, asked him to walk on burning coals to prove his innocence.

The superstition is that the act - known as 'agni pariksha' (test of fire) and practiced in ancient times - will leave a person unscathed if innocent or lead to burn injuries.

Garasiya first took a bath and wore new clothes as logs were burnt for him to tread on. He walked over the fire thrice and, surprisingly, sustained no injuries.

The panchayat later set him free and fined the accuser for 'false allegations', ordering him to pay up a sum of money and an ox as compensation.

When Minister is haunted by Ghosts

'Monazir Hussain', the state building construction minister in Bihar state of India is a troubled lot nowadays. Reason, a fading picture in the big official bungalow / house appears to be haunting him. The picture's sudden transformation from Eastman color to black-and-white has puzzled the minister and his staff. He, however, puts up a brave front. "I am a 'tantrik' and 'ojha' myself. I do not fear 'bhoots' and djinns," he said.

The staff at Monazir's bungalow, however, have been saying "ominous" things about the sudden change in the picture's color. They say it indicates the house is "inauspicious". Incidentally, the minister's son recently met with a nasty accident.

To top it all, the minister's wings were recently clipped, as the housing department was taken away from him and attached to the urban development ministry. The minister himself rues that although he puts in so much of hard labor in his ministry, he has not received the returns he deserved.

His staff appear convinced that the sprawling bungalow is "jinxed". They point out that the previous occupant of the house and former road construction minister Illiyas Hussain had to go to jail several times in connection with the multi-crore bitumen scam and he finally ended up losing his Dehri-on-Sone assembly seat which was considered his fiefdom. 'Ghosts' Halt Water Supply

Himachal Pradesh is a hilly state in India & in many areas over there, water problem is very much common. But nowadays in Chintpurni in Una district over there, fear of ghosts is so much that no one is brave enough to operate the pumps that are situated next to a cremation ground. Similarly taps run dry after dark in several villages of Himachal Pradesh only because of fear of ghosts.

The Karjadi water supply scheme near Chintpurni in Una district, was launched in February at a cost of Indian Rs.4 million ( US$ 95,000). But only after a few days, the water supply was hit in the night as an Irrigation and Public Health (IPH) employee refused to run the water lifting pumps due to fear of ghosts.

'Sometimes stones are hurled into the air and sometimes there are human shrieks in the middle of the night,' local media reports quoted unnamed staffers of the state IPH department as saying.

Just imagine, a gang of robbers come to rob your house & after taking away the stolen goods ask the family members, "Mother, sister, please don't lose heart". A similar incident happened when around 10 thieves raided Virendra Mishra’s house in Khuti police station area, 35km from Ranchi in Jharkhand state of India.

Thieves took away jewellery worth Indian Rs40,000 ( US$ 930), Rs5,000 ( US$ 116) in cash and a bike — but with utmost politeness.

The robbers told Mishra’s distraught wife: “Mother please do not cry.” They even requested for dinner: “We are hungry, please give us some food,” one of them was quoted as saying by her. Not only that. While leaving, they gave Rs.10 to the children in the house also!!!!!!!

“Why are you worried Mishraji? You will get the bike money from insurance,” another thief was quoted as saying by Mishra.

Satan Worship to seek Supernatural powers

Subscribe to Weird India Subscribe to Weird India in MY YAHOO! Subscribe to Weird India in MY GOOGLE! Subscribe to Weird India in MY MSN! Subscribe to Weird India in MY AOL! Subscribe to Weird India in Rojo!
In Mizoram state of India tribal youths are worshipping Satan to seek supernatural powers to perform miracles. The church in the predominantly Christian northeastern state of Mizoram is grappling to fight a bizarre phenomenon. There are reports of youths invoking Satan in desolate cemeteries by offering blood from self-inflicted wounds.

‘The youths often cut their wrist with blades and then suck their own blood as an offering to Satan. They want to do wonders or miracles by invoking Satan,’ said Reverend L.H. Rawsealh, a faculty member of the Theological College investigating the weird practice.

The genesis of this trend dates back to 2000 with community elders and church leaders citing incidents of youths practicing such bizarre things inspired by television shows and films about the paranormal and the occult.

‘Most of the cases that we have heard were being practiced by youths who are drug addicts and influenced by films,’ said Reverend Chuauthuama, a senior church leader and a lecturer at the Theological College.

The revelations have shocked people in Mizoram, where close to 90 percent of the under one million people are Christians.

‘The art of black magic, demonology or maybe superstitious beliefs imbibed on these power hungry youths could be reasons,’ Chuauthuama said. In some places, the youths were reported to have desecrated church buildings and the pulpits, besides burning down Bibles.

6 months jail for killing 7 people

It happens only in India. Here in India, its a classic example which has been quite a regular phenomenon over here, where people with big money & power mows down people sleeping on pavements & get away with little or no sentence.

Allister Pereira, a 21-year-old son of a Mumbai businessman who was charged with running his car over seven people sleeping on a Mumbai pavement in suburban Bandra last year, was sentenced to six months imprisonment and fined Indian Rs 500,000 (US$ 11,630) for running over seven people who died due to accident.

Around 3-4 years back son of a arms broker also mowed down around 10 people by his car and sometime back film actor Salman Khan was also involved in similar accident who is still moving around freely & living happily without any harm.

On November 12, 2006, Pereira lost control of his Toyota Corolla while returning from a party in Bandra and ran over seven people sleeping on a pavement near Carter Road Promenade. Eight others were injured in the incident.

He was allegedly to have been under the influence of alcohol at the time.

When Temple Deity returns 'Stolen Goods'

Subscribe to Weird India Subscribe to Weird India in MY YAHOO! Subscribe to Weird India in MY GOOGLE! Subscribe to Weird India in MY MSN! Subscribe to Weird India in MY AOL! Subscribe to Weird India in Rojo!
It is the duty of Police / Cops to catch thieves anyware in the world. Same is the case in India & whenever, a theft occurs in India, standard practice is to go to a police station & file a FIR ( First Information Report). After that it's the job of the Police to look into the matter & catch the thieves. But what would you call to a practice in a place in India where people go to a temple instead of going to Police Station when theft occurs in their place.

Yes, in India there is a place called Panvel in Raigadh district of Maharashtra State, where as per locals, a temple allegedly has the power to teach a lesson to thieves. As per the belief of local people over there, if you worship at the Cheroba temple, stolen goods will come back to you. Interestingly, thief must do so himself. He can ignore it at his own peril.

As per Zee News report, its a sort of divine police station where there is no need to file a FIR. Zee News met several people in the area who claimed that they have got back their stolen goods after offering prayers and asking for help from Lord Cheroba. In case of a theft, many living in nearby areas prefer to go there than visit the nearest police station.

The popularity of the temple is so much that, nowadays it receives visitors even from Mumbai - the commercial capital of India and nearby states also who come here hoping to get their precious belongings back. Local people often recount examples of thieves falling sick after ignoring the call of Lord Cheroba.

It may look weird to the readers but what do you call to the staunch faith of so many people in Lord Cheroba & what would you call to the claim of those people who got their belongings back after being stolen!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Water pump means Brides for unmarried villagers

Subscribe to Weird India Subscribe to Weird India in MY YAHOO! Subscribe to Weird India in MY GOOGLE! Subscribe to Weird India in MY MSN! Subscribe to Weird India in MY AOL! Subscribe to Weird India in Rojo!

Here is an interesting story of young and middle-aged unmarried men who were unable to get married for want of drinking water. Brides just refused to marry such people who could not provide them with drinking water even. Yes, here are bachelors of Badwan, a hilly village in Kaimur district in Bihar State of India, who could not got married due to non-availability of drinking water in their area as brides simply refused to marry such persons.

But now there is good news for such bachelors. A simple hand pump set has been installed by the government ahead of 'lagan', the traditional marriage season in summer across rural Bihar that has changed their fate. Now the middle-aged unmarried men as well as their parents in Badwan village are cheerfully looking forward to marriage negotiations from families of prospective brides as the marriage season begins in the second week of April.

On several occasions in the last few years, marriage negotiations had failed to mature due to shortage of drinking water that discouraged girls' families from marrying off their daughters to men of this village.

Like dozens of unmarried men in Badwan village, Birendra Yadav and his friend Shyam Chandra Yadav, both in their late 30s, are happy as never before. 'We are sure that now girls' families will turn up at our village in search of grooms. We hope not to die unmarried thanks to the hand pump,' said Birendra. According to former village body head Ram Dayal Kharwar, around 35 to 40 men in the village over the age of 30-35 were unmarried because of the water problem.

There are thousands of such villages in India where there is still not even a single water pump set to provide drinking water to the villagers & people have to travel many miles to fetch drinking water for their daily needs. People of Badwan are lucky that they shall get married at last but what about thousands others, all across India who are awaiting Brides / Drinking water in their lives.

When Queen can visit Temple once in Lifetime

Subscribe to Weird India Subscribe to Weird India in MY YAHOO! Subscribe to Weird India in MY GOOGLE! Subscribe to Weird India in MY MSN! Subscribe to Weird India in MY AOL! Subscribe to Weird India in Rojo!

In India, rituals in some temples look strange some times. Take the case of "Queen-designate" of Puri in Orissa state of India where the Maharani of Puri, Lilabati Pattamahadei, undertook a rare ritual, as she visited the 12th century Sri Jagannath temple here to offer prayers over the weekend.

Here is the "Queen-designate" of Puri who stays just in front of the famous Lord Jagannath temple of Orissa in Puri but for the Maharani it was virtually inaccessible as per temple rules & regulations. She has had to wait for nearly three decades to get a darshan of the Lord. The event comes only once in the lifetime of the Maharani.

The last time that a Maharani of the royal family visited the temple was in 1966.
Interestingly "Loknath", a boy at the Temple performed the traditional rituals for the "Queen-designate" as no other man / temple priest could be present as per the rituals in the temple when she was there.

Rich villager loses bride to poverty list

Subscribe to Weird India Subscribe to Weird India in MY YAHOO! Subscribe to Weird India in MY GOOGLE! Subscribe to Weird India in MY MSN! Subscribe to Weird India in MY AOL! Subscribe to Weird India in Rojo!
"Below the poverty line" (BPL) is a category in India of people who have low income levels & such people are entitled to get government benefits like subsidies on food etc. Now in Indian society there are many such rich people who enroll themselves illegally in BPL List in government records to get benefits of subsidies being given to poor people.

Here is an interesting story of a Bihar villager who put his family's name on the poverty list despite being quite rich but he could scarcely have imagined that it would cost his son a bride!

That's what happened to Ramnath Singh (name changed), a resident of Bihat village in Begusarai district, about 125 km from here. Until a few days ago, he was a happy man as he was expecting a fat dowry from his son's marriage.

According to villagers, the girl's father Satish Prasad Singh (name changed) had visited the boy's house to hand over dowry in cash a few days ago. He was welcomed with good food and all other comforts.

But then a distant relative informed Satish Prasad that his would-be son-in-law's family figured in the below the poverty line (BPL) list.

'It was shocking for him and he immediately broke off the marriage negotiations,' a villager said.

A nervous Ramnath tried his best to convince Satish Prasad that he was a rich man, far above the poverty list status. He reportedly even confessed that the family had deliberately put its name in the BPL list to get government benefits.

'The groom's father claimed that he owned a multi-storey building, landed property, vehicles and fat deposits in different banks but the girl's father was not ready to believe his words and came back with the dowry,' the villager said.

'The girl's father not only declined to offer the negotiated dowry of Rs.500,000 to the boy's father but also nullified the proposal,' the villager said.

Ramnath felt dejected and admitted that putting the son's name on the poverty list had been a wrong decision. He plans to remove it from the list for future matches for his son, but for now the damage has been done.

The case has once again exposed irregularities in the official list of the poorest of the poor.

In the past it has been reported that ministers, legislators, rich contractors and officials have figured in the BPL list prepared by the Nitish Kumar government.

In the Charpokhri village block in Bhojpur district, about 60 km from here, even the names of 101 dead people have been found in the list.

All this when many landless poor who live in dire poverty are not included.

Devotees offer Liquor at the tomb of Holy man

Subscribe to Weird India Subscribe to Weird India in MY YAHOO! Subscribe to Weird India in MY GOOGLE! Subscribe to Weird India in MY MSN! Subscribe to Weird India in MY AOL! Subscribe to Weird India in Rojo!
Sometimes Saints do good to Tipplers of the world also. Cocktail of drinks is not only to be found in beer & bars of the world but here in India, such Cocktail can be found at religious places also, where people drink such Cocktail of drinks as "Prasad" or blessings of the holy man.

Though most religious faiths in the world discourage believers from drinking liquor but in India there is holy place / tomb of a Muslim seer "Baba Rode Shah", where offerings and "Prasad" are given in the form of IMFL (Indian-made foreign liquor) or country liquor. Nothing is diluted in any way and must be 'slammed back' neat. This is a unique and popular tomb that lies on the Amritsar-Majitha road. Devotees from all over the country have been visiting the dargah of Muslim seer Baba Rode Shah situated in Bhoma town, 34 km from Amritsar in Punjab state of India.

Following the age-old tradition, devotees offer liquor at the shrine of Baba Rode Shah. As a ritual, devotees offer cocktail of drinks ranging from cheap country-made liquor to foreign brands once their wishes are fulfilled. The liquor is later distributed among devotees as 'Prasad' or blessings of the holy man.

According to a myth, Rode Shah moved to this town in 1896 and lived on the outskirts. He underwent austere penance and was blessed with mystical powers. Soon the miracles he performed to help people in distress made him popular. Today the shrine is known for its miraculous cures. By offering liquor at the shrine, childless couples have been blessed with children and people have achieved prosperity, as per the devotees.

Devotees flashing bottles of liquor greets each other after paying obeisance at the Samadhi of baba , where they arrive seeking mystical blessing. Not only people from in the vicinity come to pay obeisance at baba's Samadhi , but several NRIs ( Non Resident Indians) also make it a point to reach here with boxes of foreign liquor to 'appease' baba , who interestingly was a teetotaler.

At baba's Samadhi , a large drum is kept to mix the 'offerings' and a 'cocktail Prasad ' is given to baba's ardent devotees who gladly gulp it down. Issueless couples especially come here to seek baba's blessings.

The legend has it that Baba Rode Shah, who hailed from Dhiman village falling in Gurdaspur district had moved to Bhoma village in 1896 where his sister was married. Baba Rode Shah underwent austere penance. He started helping people. Once, with his blessings, a child was born to an issueless couple, who brought a bottle of liquor for baba to show their gratitude, which baba distributed among his devotees.

Though Baba passed away in 1924, the tradition is still going strong. Among the more famous devotees of Baba Rode Shah was the Great Indian singer "Mohammed Rafi".

India's pathetic performance in the World Cup has left Cricket Crazy Indians disappointed. But twenty-eight villages in the north Indian state of Haryana have gone a step further and imposed a blanket ban on cricket, barely two weeks after the national team's World Cup first-round exit.

Head of Dadan Panchayat, Tewa Singh, says those who go against the decision will have to face a "social boycott".

India's World Cup-frenzy had been fuelled by television channels and media outlets touting the team as favourites.

A resident of the village, Pankaj, says all residents have taken the decision.

"We will stop playing it (cricket). We will play kabaddi, football, volleyball and wrestle instead," he said.

Irate fans and several former players have called for large-scale changes to the World Cup team, finalists in the last edition, after defeats to Bangladesh and Sri Lanka in the Caribbean.

Haryana is the state which produced the country's greatest fast bowler Kapil Dev.

Nearly 300 Indian children who have had to work or been victims of abuse, marched to the venue of the South Asian Association of Regional Co-operation (SAARC) summit held in New Delhi, Capital of India. They highlighted the issue of cross-border child trafficking. As per them..............

“Children are purchased like buffaloes,” said the BBA’s Bhuvan Ribhu, quoting a study that is due to be released later this year.

“While buffaloes may cost up to Rs15,000 ($350), children are sold at prices between Rs500 and Rs2,000 ($12 and $45),” he said.

For instance, two brothers in Bihar were recently given away for Rs250 each by their parents and trafficked out of the state in connivance with police, Ribhu said.

650 Goats Sacrificed at Kali temple

Subscribe to Weird India Subscribe to Weird India in MY YAHOO! Subscribe to Weird India in MY GOOGLE! Subscribe to Weird India in MY MSN! Subscribe to Weird India in MY AOL! Subscribe to Weird India in Rojo!

Kali is a Hindu Goddess who is the animating force of Lord Shiva, the God of destruction (also lord of the Dance). With Kali worship is associated skulls, cemeteries, and blood.

In Kali worship tradition, around 650 goats were sacrificed at a Kali temple in Orissa state in India as part of an annual ritual despite a ban by the local administration.

The sacrifice was made at the Rakshya Kali temple at Rameswarpur village in Bhadrak district, about 170 km from state capital Bhubaneswar, Saturday night. The incident came to light Monday after some officials and villagers reported it.

The mass sacrifice is held once a year in the Hindu month of Chaitra. 'Our village is always guarded by Rakshya Kali. It is a 72-year-old tradition,' villager Dibakar Barik said.

'Earlier, devotees used to offer buffaloes as sacrifice. Now we sacrifice goats,' he said.

According to local police, who witnessed the event, the area around the temple's sacrificial altar was soaked in blood. The animals were first garlanded before being led to the altar and their cries got drowned by the beating of drums.

Some devotees even scrambled to touch the blood of the sacrificed animals, believed to be auspicious and a good omen, while some even smeared it on their forehead, an official said on condition of anonymity.

Man shot his neighbor for parking spot

Are we ready to kill for a parking spot? It is the question raised in an article in "Times of India". A man shooting his neighbor for a parking spot is a grave example which shows that parking situation in New Delhi, Capital of India has become so grim that people are fighting every now & then for a parking spot, whether, in their society, markets, shopping malls etc. etc. New Delhi has at present around 3.5 million vehicles registered over there & it is increasing day by day. You can imagine, how much parking space it shall require for such a massive population of vehicles in the capital city. TOI writes:

"As a man shot his neighbour at Panchsheel Park in a fight over parking spot, it was a grim reminder of how the parking situation in Delhi is fast getting out of hand. And there seems to be little relief in sight as the parking norms introduced for residential properties under Master Plan 2021 look good on paper, but can hardly be put into practice. "

Pet dies & Couple commit Suicide

Infatuation to any human being is not good, so says the Vedas & Hindus Scriptures. But what would you call to so much Infatuation to your Pet Dog that after his death you are forced to commit suicide!!!!!!!!!!! May be answer lies in loneliness felt by old couples all around the world, when they are forsaken by their own sons & daughters, near & dear ones. Now if one such couple fell in love with their Pet dog, who was with them for 13 years & after the death of their Pet dog, who was their only near & dear one, they were so distressed that they didn't find any meaning to their lives & committed suicide.............

Indeed similar seems to have happened to a couple in Hyderabad city in South India.
Unable to come to terms with the death of their pet dog, an elderly couple here committed suicide by hanging themselves.

The bodies of 67-year-old retired soldier C N Madanraj and his wife, Tarabai, 63, were found on Sunday in their home.

According to the police, the childless couple had held a burial ceremony for their dog of 13 years called "Puppy". They also hosted a feast for friends before hanging themselves in their bedroom.

"The couple described the grief over their pet dog in the suicide note they left on March 29," police inspector V Anantaiah, said.
